Han D. SoloAnother thing I need you to check in the WP is the garbage matte boxes - not matte lines mind you - a matte line is a thin dark outline that follows the edges of the composited object (I want to keep those) a matte box is a slightly brighter rectangular area around the object (I want those reported - I may not be able to get rid of them but I'd like to try).

Harmy,
ok I watched it once and will watch it again tomorrw to see if I can find anything else.
It looks amazing (not the quality because its compressed right now) but just the overall job you have done.
1. @ 1:25:38 you can see matte lines around the death star (left and top of death star) it really shows against black space; i am sure this is the actual film though, not sure you can do anything about that.
2. 1:29:36 You can see matte lines (box) around death star when its very small; the fleet has just come out of hyperspace and Lando is looking at the Death Star. Again I am sure this was how it looked back in the day not sure if you can fix or want to.
3. @ 1:29:40 Matte Lines around Death Star as akbar is looking at it...same as above.
4. This is the only thing I found that is really noticable. 2:01:09 there is either a missing frame or one too many as it stutters when Luke and Leia are walking away as Luke as looking at the ghosts.
I will watch it again my friend and see if there is anything at all I didnt catch the first time. I think you are doing a wonderful job and there are a lot of us that are most grateful!

Han D. SoloThanks a ton :-)
I already noticed and fixed no. 4.
I'll look into the matte boxes but the thing with those is that I must increase contrast in order to get rid of them and when you increase contrast, you loose detail in both dark and bright areas, so you can only do it to a point.

Harmy, when you finish this and the v.2 of Star Wars, I'll do the NTSC DVD conversions, as I did before. I'm going away tomorrow, but I'll PM you about it when I get back, mate. :)

Shoot me a PM and I'll give it a look. The garbage mattes are my biggest gripe on any version and really jump out to my eyes. Absolutely ruins the shot of TIEs in the Falcon cockpit. Their diminished presence on your other Despecializeds were really great.

Tauntaun herder-Damn Fool Idealistic CrusaderFor the most part I didn't see any garbage mattes. It looks really good overall.
The ones I did notice:
-In the middle of the fleet jumping into hyperspace shot.
-A little barely visible here and there during the speeder bike chase.
-Around the edge of the Death Star, especially noticeable around 1.25.42
-Around the Death Star when the fleet comes out of hyperspace.
-In the tail end of the shot where Lando first approaches the Star Destroyers.
-In the TIEs through the Falcon cockpit shot
-On the Falcon at 1.36
-TIEs inside the Death Star at 1.52.50ish
-Executor plunging into the Death Star.
-Luke flying the shuttle out of the DS.
They really will be more noticeable during bright frames or flashes (laser blasts, hyperspace, explosions) and movement.

As someone who has never noticed matte boxes, I just wanted to let you all know that this is absolutely fascinating. Matte lines? Oh sure I see those. Matte boxes? Only ever spotted them in enhanced shots specifically designed to show them off.
Possible exception: the near three-way Star Destroyer collision in ESB?

Hi Harmy,
I haven't had a chance to watch this all the way through yet but from just skimming it here are two things
1. I thought admiral ackbar seemed too red..almost like an apple during the battle at endor. When he said "we've got to give those fighters more time. concentrate all your fire power on that super star destroyer" he looked really red. I may be mistaken but in the gout i think he looks more dark brown than red. also some of the skin tones in the space battle at endor look a little too red. i'll let you know specific shots after i watch the whole thing.
2. I thought lukes saber during the duel looked too wide. But if that's how it is in the gout then keep it that way. To tell you the truth the sabers in the 04 version didn't bother me that much. (I know...i know)
I'm going to watch it all the way through and try to give as much help as possible
thank you for saving star wars

Yeah, older versions of ESB were loaded with them. Even as a wee tyke, I'd think 'why is there a square around that TIE Fighter?' Stuck out like a sore thumb. I don't know why they didn't do more to fix those. I'm sure they could've done something, even back then. Ditto for the see-through snowspeeder canopies.

Hey harmy,
I am half way through the work print. at about 1:04:22
I've noticed a few color differences between the gout and workprint. However they are really minor and you wouldn't notice them unless you had the gout on the same screen ;-). and even between official versions of ROTJ there were minor color differences.
I can point them out if you like but it really doesn't effect my experience of this masterpiece.
however i did notice that at 53:51 when the rebel group first lands on endor that the sky is completely different in the gout. either that or it's just much brighter in the workprint
that is very minor though.

Han D. SoloCool, I'll check that shot out, thanks. Other than that, I didn't really go by the GOUT colours so much this time, as I don't really like the GOUT colours on Jedi.
