Google Fiber The next big thing?(no Joke and Please read the 1st post.)

Here in the U.S. the average for internet is 13 Megabytes a Second and lower, for a very Expensive Price. Around the World 100 Megabytes a Second is Average.

Google Has created something new and it's all over Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter. It has speeds of 1 Gigabyte (1,000 Megabytes) in a second and uses Fiber wires instead of Cable or phone line. and is only Available in Kansas City U.S. But They will Be world wide in 4-5 years from now. This also includes T.V.

Let's be fair here and think about the reasons our internet is so much slower. America's about as first world as it gets in terms of levels of consumption - sure, the economy sucks, but nobody likes to act like it does . Everybody who can has the biggest TV package, the biggest TV, and the newest stereo (whether they use it properly or not.) It's very in line with our society for EVERYONE to have internet. The amount of users probably far outnumbers those in other countries - hence our internet is slower because more people are connected.

At least I always thought it was that way.

No, it has more to do with local monopolies giving ISPs no reason to improve.

The internet here (around DC) is so bad. 0.5M download speed, streaming video too often struggles. bkev makes a good point. With a system of internet as far-reaching as ours (including many who still don't have cable availability) it's no surprise the average speed isn't pretty low. Though I'd expect our capitol to do much better. I'm curious about the google, but wonder how much of our privacy we must sell to partake.

This is not a lightsaber. Nor a euphemism.
