Actually, I'm glad you made this thread.  A couple of years ago, it was in vogue for unhappy members to post their own "I'm Leaving" threads that would undoubtedly draw ridicule from other forum members.  It always made me worried that people would be unable to just say, "Hey, I have to go somewhere," without drawing comparions to those.  Now we have this, and all is right with the world.

Hey, have a blast!  I did that August hike when my troupe went to Philmont 19 years ago!  It's a great place. Don't forget to bring lots of GORP, and take lots of photos.

 LOL. Don't be to hard on yourself. :D It's a big step from wondering were someone went to actually asking in a thread. I'm sure a lot of people missed you.

Great stuff, kid.  I spent many summers in the 1970s at El Rancho Cima in the Texas hill country.  The Explorer post I was part of was big on Philmont.  Hope you really soaked it in, man. Those experiences last a lifetime.

Plus - The Tooth is about a thousand times more awesome than sitting behind a computer.

Yeah, I had a BLAST!  I did a lot better on the hiking than I thought I would.  But boy, do I have stories to tell!  If anyone's interested that is.

The Tooth, unfortunately, was  a letdown.  The one day they get "typical" August weather (fog and more fog) is the day we go for the sunrise.  Cool to see all the ladybugs, though - and I lost my flashlight to the Tooth!  Heh.

Nope, I didn't even know that was part of a single program.  Probably not on my itinerary.

It's not a program, and you can still do it.  It's the tradition of sewing the Philmont patch onto the red Jac-Shirt.  If you've hicked over the ridge, you sew the patch in such a way that the bull's tail is over the shoulder seam.

They didn't even tell us about that... shame, as I DEFINITELY would have done that.  However, I did get my boots & nalgene branded - so that was kind of cool.

i got a lot of flack for 'disappearing' from this board

for several months..

i didn't think it was that big of a deal..

but a lot of people slammed me and my personal

life, because i hadn't commented lately..

In keeping with the spirit of Bkev's original idea;  After an early morning ride in the twisties, I'm back home to help the house sitter settle in, then I'm off to Napa for a week of tasting & relaxation. Back on the 28th.
