Jedi KnightHi folks. As you may know, I've just finished my Jaws filmumentary project and as always I am looking for something to get my teeth into.
Yesterday I started reviewing the resources available to do a Ghostbusters filmumentary having just read Don Shay's amazing The Making of Ghostbusters book again.
As far as I can tell there is quite a lot of material out there, though I would of course probably have to do some of my own interviews.
This is the list I have so far:
Ghostbusters DVD release
Ghostbusters BR release
Scene Cemetary
1984 Featurette
SFX Featurette
Music Videos (Need)
USA TV Broadcast (Need)
Teaser Trailer (Need)
SFX Museum with Richard Edlund
CD Soundtrack (to buy)
A few vids off youtube (already borrowed).
Is there anything else you guys know of?
Thanks

Better Grumpy than DopeyThere were six alternate scenes shot for the broadcast TV version, with watered-down language "wally wick" instead of "dickless", etc.
I used to have a VHS recording of the TV version but I think I ended up recording over it with the "proper" version a few years later.

Jedi KnightThere's a decent chance I have a VHS of the TV version in my mom's attic, but I wouldn't be able to check till Christmas. I'll see if I can get her to go and try to find the tape, though. It would be an original off-air recording, likely in SP mode.

I have a clean, raw TS digital capture of the "celebrity cameo" version of the Ray Parker Jnr music video, with minimal logos at the beginning.
It is, however, a 576i NTSC->PAL conversion.
I'd be happy to upload it someplace if you'd like to assess it for quality.

There are many versions, every locale had new cameos and even after release in the USA more were added.
The original the cameos were muted

I remember watching a different version from both you mention here, even gentler in nature. Ray calls that annoying fellow a "little weasel" or something like that, then when asked, "Is this true?" Peter responds by saying, "Yes it's true, he's a rodent of some kind, I'm not sure which." I only saw this once many years ago, and I didn't expect the change. I just know it's out there somewhere.

Better Grumpy than DopeyThe rodent line came after Wally Wick in the TV version I had. Stupid. "Weasel" would've made more sense.
Some scenes/lines were simply removed altogether, from memory the dream ghost/blow job scene was cut completely (although the actress/playboy model Kym Herrin was still credited) and the "He's a sailor; in New York. We get this guy laid, we won't have any trouble!" line was taken out.

Jedi KnightThanks for all the offers of help. I don't think I'll need the TV version unless it really is that different.
The music video with cameos would be great, thank you!

Normally, film versions that have been edited for television have swearing removed by bad overdubs (think "yippie-kye-ay melon farmer"), often voiced by different actors.
The unusual and notable thing about the Ghostbusters TV version is that for those six scenes, Ivan Reitman actually shot alternative takes for television with the original actors.

It actually wasn't that unusual in the 80s (though still notable).
For example, Harold Ramis shot TV takes for Caddyshack (ex., Rodney Dangerfield saying "Hey everybody, let's take a shower!") and National Lampoon's Vacation (ex., the pimp saying "Man, who do I look like, Christopher Columbo?").
I really do think the TV takes should be included, especially because of how rare they are now - starting some time in the 90s, basic-cable airings of the movie would have the original versions reinstated (I remember "This man has no dick" when Comedy Central would show it)

Jedi KnightI agree that the TV takes should be included. I didn't realise they had shot different no sweary takes. Thanks for the info!
