The surrogate wasn't called Shmi by any chance?

But seriously, congratulations to George and Mellody.

This reminds of a quote from Highlander III. I'll have the decency not to reiterate it here, though, as it would be rather tasteless in this context.

God doesn't think in terms of black or white - or even shades of gray - but in big, bright, bold hues of blue and orange.

Call me old school, but giving birth should never be "a job".

Congratulations anyway, I guess.

The couple are (I imagine) financially solvent so can afford children, though it might have been a better idea to adopt some more pre-existing older ones than adding a new being to the planet who might not see enough of their father while he is fit enough to do the parenting stuff.

Taking my sour face off I wish them all good luck.

To be fair he's already adopted 3 kids. People are living longer these days and what was considered old is now like middle age. If they were both 69 it would be an issue but she's only 44.

Yes but if you have already adopted 3 kids why would you want to make a new one especially in such a contrived manner? Clearly raising pre-existing children is something George can cope with and he could adopt them at age where he can still be a dad instead of being a grandad-aged father.

I have the nothing but praise for people who opt to provide a parent role for children without access to parents. I've never understood the biological imperative to reproduce especially in people of a certain age, I can understand the impulse but life is more than impulses.

But at least he can afford them.

I wish all involved luck.

Don't worry - one day artificial wombs will be invented, and everyone can be happy ;-)

When making babies becomes a business, you bet I'll continue to tell that. I'm not someone who think money should buy everything. Sometime you can't have something. That's does not mean you should have the right to get it by any possible method. When rich people will have the right to buy the womb of a woman from a poor country who needs that money to survive, someone will also come to say "listen the poor women needs money, the rich have some! Everyone's happy? So what?" I'm sorry, giving birth is not job, that's would be the ultimate oppression of money above poverty. If someone can't see the uglyness of that way of thinking, I'll be there to tell him.

I wish him luck and am very happy for him, but at his age, this is going to be a lot of work!

Well, good for them!  That confuses me, though, because I thought the whole reason he and Marcia adopted in the first place was because he was sterile...

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming... Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

He can't carry to full term ergo the surrogate and the green screen.

Presumably, the baby inherits his father's high midichlorian count?

If you were the Lucas family Doctor, when test results came back, it would be so tempting to stare at them in disbelief and go...

"The reading's off the chart...over twenty thousand!"

of course you'd immediately be fired and lose a lucrative client but I'd feel it was worth it.

It's possible he was conceived by the midichlorians.
