Oh and yes, I get a headache when I see clone troopers. I think clone troopers are boring and stupid concept. I just wouldn't want any kind of clone armies. Clone Wars should only get the name after some incident involving cloning.

Prequel Trilogy was supposed to be a story about a good man turning bad. In reality, it is a story about how a complete jerk (PT Anakin) turned into one of the best characters in film history (OT Vader)

Absolutely. No need for armies of clones against totally irrelevant, inept droids. Make the clones nasty, tough, ruthless pieces of work who act like terrorist splinter cells.

I'm gonna go against the grain here and say the overall stories of the prequels weren't that bad. Lucas's general ideas were good as first drafts, but he just needed some "no men" to come in and fine-tune things.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

I just don't see how is making the main character one of the most annoying and repulsive characters in film history a good idea. No matter what you build on that idea, it won't make it good.

Yes but it's the fine detail of the dialogue that makes him annoying, not the concept. There is nothing inherently annoying about Anakin racing pods. It's just he should have been a dashing young (Late teen?) Ayrton Senna type podracer, instead of a 9 year old doofus.

Again if battledroids were treated like a real threat by the rest of the characters, then they would be. Stormtroopers never pose any actual threat in the OT but because we see Han, Leia and Luke running, ducking and desperately trying to escape from them they come off as really dangerous.

Again if you watch how Hamill defects blaster shots on Jabba's skiff it looks like he's really in danger because he conveys that through his performance. But in the OT the Jedi just look half-bored deflecting the Droids blasts, like they are swatting away flies.  Throw in a couple of shots of Kenobi looking sh*t scared of the Battledroids and you've got something very different.

Broadly speaking... it's the execution, not the concept that is at fault.

It is not the Ep1 Anakin I was particularly targeting with my argument. I was mainly talking about him in Ep2 and Ep3 where he constantly complains, he is ungrateful, he is a hypocrite (says "You're the closest thing I have to a father" to Obi-Wan's face and then a few moments later he talks shit about him behind his back) and he whines all the time (I mean he even whines in love scenes which is just unbelievable). If these kind of scenes are written, there are no dialogue corrections that will make them good.

Reading the new Star Wars Insider it reports that Colin Higgins, the original 'Wedge' has died. News has really only just come to light these past months but he passed away in December.

Reading some online blogs about Colin, it appears that fans called him 'fake Wedge' a label that he was embarrassed about.' Fake Wedge', I have certainly never ever called him that. The guy was/is  'Wedge' The first.

Shame that things went wrong and he was fired from the set.

Again those ^ are detailed dialogue issues, not concept problems. I and other editors have fixed all the issues that you highlight^. In fact your paragraph could be quoted to descibe how I've remade Anakin in my edits! lol. e.g. the 2 times that Anakin says...

"You're the closest thing I have to a father"

...have been removed from my cut. Also the romantic scenes have been drastically recut or removed entirely to make Anakin and Padme's relationship fluid and believable.

I agree. It was just the execution of those basic ideas that was a horrible, hurried mess (Eps 2 & 3 in particular).

The two scenes in particular that had me biting my fist with Anakin (there are countess others) were in episode II where he questions ObiWan about protecting Padme and where he questions Padme in the scene in the palace on Naboo. Utterly awful acting and script. My soul was crying in the cinema.

I've never understood why he's been labeled "fake wedge". I know he was actually supposed to be wedge before he was let go, but since nobody calls him that in the film, why isn't he just seen as another pilot? I'm gonna start calling him "Thomas" cause he's full of doubt. (See mom, I did pay attention in Sunday school!)

Exactly. Why the hell would this guy have to be Wedge? Forget the behind-the-scenes stuff. From film storyline perspective, he is just some other guy.

Amazing!

I loved the SW CCG - complex and immensely entertaining. Shame it didn't have the longevity MTG did.

Is his "that's impossible, even for a computer" line dubbed by the same guy who dubbed the lines for "real" Wedge?

RE: General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread

Yes he was, though the voice is generic enough sounding that I didn't even know till I was much older, and even then I still just consider him another pilot.  But I have problem referring to him as Fake Wedge so folks will know who I'm talking about.

Um, I do.  He was deliberately dubbed by the same actor because George Lucas intended for him to be the same character.  This site specializes in the most trivial of Star Wars trivia, so don't be surprised that someone knows or cares.

Because I was trying to figure out if the filmmakers intended this pilot to be Wedge in the movie...

Let me know if you need further explanation.

Apologies all round but that sort of trivia is way beyond my scope of avid interest. Sorry.

The german version has two different voice actors for them. I never thought of him as Wedge.
