Does knowing about the "unknown regions" make them known unknown regions? Or does the knowing about the unknown region negate the unknown factor making them known again? Or is there a complete knowingness of the unknown regions that makes it possible for the unknown regions to remain unknown? Or does simply making them "unknown" regions make them regions of indescribable thought? Or does "making them" unknown regions imply a level of "knowing" about the region in question? So does that in effect negate the "unknown" factor? Or does making a conscious thought to make them "unknown" essentially mean that you're making the decision to block yourself from that information? But then just knowing that the region is there in the first place kind of makes it so that you know about the unknown regions. So does that negate the title? Or does the simple desire to know more about the unknown regions give weight to the "unknown" title?

One of the things I hate the most from EU are Unknown Regions. It is just a dumb concept. The size and location of Unknown Regions is quite ridiculous.

Once upon a time there was a Star Wars trilogy. Now there is apocrypha.I never got the unknown regions. Supposedly there is something that prevents hyperspace travel to these regions, or some other BS, but that doesn't make sense. If ships can fly across the galaxy in a matter of hours, it stands to reason that if some entrepreneurial starship captain wanted to make a name for himself, he would fly his ship right into the unknown regions and start naming planets after himself.

Ce n'est pas DuracellEnergizerThe Unknown Regions - as they are - are just a lame attempt by writers to add mystery to a galaxy that, for all intents and purposes, has been largely charted, explored, and colonized.
It doesn't work well, and it's pretty much the writers' own faults for shrinking the galaxy down so much in the first place (ignoring the PT's own contribution to the shrinkage, of course), but that's pretty much the long and short of it.

Well the thing that bothers me the most is that Unknown Regions take almost entire left half of the galaxy. And even more so that they span almost to the core.
I would not mind if the Unknown Regions would be at the edges of the galaxy (for example inside those arm ends) or even outside the ring. It does not make sense that a small distance to the left of Coruscant is completely undiscovered while 10 times that distance to the other side is known (such as Tatooine).
I mean I do not know know which EU author actually mapped the galaxy. I think he/she is the one to blame. Well it is true that Unknown Regions appeared in KOTOR game and other sources but they never determined its position and size.
Prequel Trilogy was supposed to be a story about a good man turning bad. In reality, it is a story about how a complete jerk (PT Anakin) turned into one of the best characters in film history (OT Vader)

Chief Architect of Cynical MoralityThrawn was sent to chart the Unknown Regions just before RotJ, according to "Heir to the Empire". So it came from Zahn, I believe.

Chief Architect of Cynical MoralityIf I were to write Star Trek / Star Wars "Marty Stu" Fan Fiction, it would be about a disgraced Star Destroyer fleet left in the Unknown Regions before by Thrawn, finding a wormhole to the Milky Way there, reporting it to the New Republic, and becoming the New Republic ambassadors to the Federation.
I may or may not have started that story in high school.

"Take Me To Your Cinema"^ does this idea involve all the characters from Star Wars sporting evil ming-the-merciless moustaches and swapping their Sabers for Agonizers?
If not... I'm out.
Mind you Biggs is already evil universe Biggs...

It's not really half the galaxy, just the "northwestern" bit. I see what you mean, though.
Technically speaking it is more than 1/3 of the galaxy. Looking on either the map I provided or the one you provided, you can clearly see that the scaling on the left side is not the same as on the right side. These maps usually do that in order to make it look smaller and less ridiculous.

I just discovered something curious on Twitter. On George Lucas's official twitter page he has posted a link to a short film (roughly 5 mins long) called 'The Game' and has said that if it gets 100 views or retweets, he may divulge some info about Episode VII.

I'm not convinced that it is his twitter. The account's not verified and all he's been linking to are videos by one Christopher Saunders.

Reading through the early pages on this thread today and I came across the video that GafferTape posted on here about the Han rescue plot in ROTJ. And something instantly struck me is that how much he looks like Russell Howard!! (He's an English comedian) shrug.
