and HOLY SH*T I now know what GL was talking about in '97 when he said SW didn't finish up looking how he imagined it:

^ That's going in my workprint fanedit for sure!

That painting was done for a book in the mid 90s.

Really? I did not know that, I've always thought it was original art. What book would that be?

??? Can anybody settle this? When was it painted? If it's pre '77 I'll use it in my edit, if was done in the '90s probably not.

I'm looking for some decent (Preferably high-res) scans of SW Prequel costume design artwork. Specifically Padme, Anakin and Obi-Wan.

Plenty  of Padme stuff (But lowres). Can anybody please post me some good links here?

Thanks

p.s. This sort of thing...

All I really want is each film as it was originally seen and heard in theaters; no fixes, corrections, "improvements" or modifications necessary.

Ridiculously funny is what this is. Hell, I'm going to make Greedo a heels fetishist in my personal canon now just to honour this photo.

God doesn't think in terms of black or white - or even shades of gray - but in big, bright, bold hues of blue and orange.

You always learn something. What other paintings did he paint in the 90s? I thought he only did some art for toys.

I think that book is about half old, half new. The old being the more obvious stuff you've already seen in those Art Of books and other promo stuff from the 77-83 era.

Too many to post... but I would say about 70% in that book was new material.

When Lucas announced the prequels back in '95, McQuarrie was also invited to head up the design team once again but as we all know he ultimately declined to participate as he thought Doug Chiang was more than sufficient for the job. But some of the work he did for that book ended up being used in both the '97 Special Edition and the prequels.

And don't forget his Santa Chewie:

Maybe we will see him in Episode VII. ;)

70%?? Wow, I almost feel embarassed now, lol.

Now that you mentioned it, I went through my McQ files. It seems that there's about 100 production paintings then about 70 new ones.

About 70% was a wild guess of mine but I think it's pretty close, it was definitely more new paintings than old ones in it. I own that book and it was ok and great for its time, but I remember being a little disappointed that not all original production art was included, and they were often presented slightly cropped. It's quite cheap compared to what's available today.

If you are unsure and want to catalogue your files, ask away... otherwise if you own Rinzler's new making of books or any of his portfolios or new art book it's easy for you to determine which ones are original production paintings done for the films and which were done in '95.

I'm even fond of his little christmas cards and other various stuff like when Lucasfilm moved their operations:

Btw, did I send you the McQ pdf as well msycamore? That's what I've used cataloging them but they don't include the toy stuff or that card for example.

Just stumbled across this old shot of the original Bail from TPM again. I never realised what his costume reminded me of before...

"Loooone Staaar!!!"

Recently got the 25th Anniversary Blu-Ray of Spaceballs and was amazed that the FX still hold up and actually looked better than the PT! How is it that Mel Brooks could make a better follow up to the OT than Lucas?

btw has anybody got a hi-res scan of the top Alderaan image of this pair of paintings...

Ooh! For those in the UK, "Shattered Glass" is on iPlayer.

Wanted to see this for ages, as it's the only other major role Hayden Christensen ever got. Must have been hard for a new young actor to star in two of the last decades' biggest films, then the phone never rings again (Feel bad for him).

Heard he was outstanding in it... let's find out.
