Star Wars: Episode VII will be directed by JJ Abrams, from a script by Little Miss Sunshine writer Michael Arndt. Lucas will serve as a creative consultant on the new films.

To quote Vader "NOOOOOOOO!"

He's not directing, he's not writing dialogue.

So, he's right where he's good.

He must be great to have around as a creative consultant, he is the guy who created this universe in the first place, so he is the one you're turning to whenever you have any questions regarding what works and what is not in the SW-universe - he's the expert. You cannot do anything silly like putting jetpacks on Artoo for example, as it breaks the in-universe rules established by the previous films. Those sort of things.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Sincerely, Lynne Hale publicity@lucasfilm.com

I seriously doubt you'll see R2 floating around with his little rocket boosters in Episode VII. He'll be old Skool R2 like he was in the OT. (And thank god for that)

Roddenberry was a creative consultant in the later Trek movies. They'd open the door, ask Gene "What do you think?", then close the door as he started saying how much he hated it.

Nobody puts together an action sequence the way Lucas does. It's his niche. Let him handle that stuff.

Wait, that is sarcasm, right?

I still can't get over the fact that the Jedi uniforms in the prequels are what Obi-wan wears in A New Hope because its what Obi-wan wears, but no one noticed that everyone on Tattooine wears the same clothes and it wouldn't make sense for a Jedi in hiding to dress like a Jedi.

I don't know but seeing as though he was in hiding, I don't think mingling with the locals was on his agenda. Maybe when he ventured into Mos Eisley to get supplies he didnt wear his robe. Shrug.

It's more that Uncle Owen wore the same clothes (because its supposed to be Tatooine garb). Was he cosplaying as a Jedi, in a post-prequel universe?

Hmm yeah I see your point now. Interesting, not something I've picked up on before. Just another point to add to the 'why the hell was someone classed as a knight wearing a monks outfit question?'

Right, like that time he ventured into Mos Eisley to charter a ship to take him to Alderaan, and changed out of his Jedi robes first in order to be less conspicuous prior to engaging in intergalactic travel.

It's a ridiculous point anyway and I WAS being mildly sarcastic C3PS. I mean at that juncture how was we (the audience) supposed to know that what Obi-Wan was wearing was standard Jedi attire?

I assumed you were being completely sarcastic.

Just one of the many flaws of the prequels. Throughout the OT, we see three characters wearing what we now call Jedi robes, Owen, Obi-Wan, and Anakin's ghost. And maybe some other characters on Mos Eisley? When I was younger, I always got the impression robes are just what people wear in the SW universe, especially middle aged to older men, it seems robes popped up a lot on regular characters in the old SW comic books as well.

Like Doubleofive said, it seemed it became the Jedi outfit in the prequels simply because it was what old Obi-Wan, the only Jedi we knew wore, disregarding the fact that many other people on the planet he was hiding on seemed to dress the same way.

The fact that Sebastian Shaw's Anakin is wearing similar clothes could indicate that they had already decided that this was the standard Jedi attire as early as the time ROTJ was made, or, as makes more sense with Owen wearing it, that it was just standard galactic attire.

We wouldn't because he wasn't supposed to be. Quite a few background characters in Mos Eisley were all dressed identically to Obi-Wan.

Then again, maybe Mos Eisley was a really popular Jedi hideout. Maybe the used speeder dealer burned Obi-Wan because they have a history:

Just had a thought about this "It's stupid that the PT decided that Jedi robes should be like Alec Guiness' costume" discussion. When I first saw photos from TPM I never saw anything strange about the Jedi robes looking like this because...

and

and

Jedi were envisioned as Samurai...

...plain and simple.*

Yes Owen's costume is similar:

But I never noticed this as a kid and if you've got an issue with it it's down to the first OT film. This lady isn't a Samurai for example:

The Jedi look was started in ANH, firmly estabablished in ESB and further cemented in ROTJ. The PT got many things wrong but this isn't one of them.

*Oh and BTW the above epic Samurai pic is from Masaki Kobayashi's 1962 film 'Harakiri'. GO BUY IT NOW!!!
