"darth endeor was a meanyhead" - FatherSkywalker, et al--QFTI wanted to say everything Jaitea said. The Sith were still an important part of the story, and even the ANH novelization termed him as such (though it also implied he was one of many). I think it's an interesting plot point and I have no problem with its use, though I do hope they will try some other angles in the new films as well.
The ROTJ collaborative thread is a wealth of ideas, both on how to edit Return of the Jedi, as well as how to collaborate in an edit. Emanswfan has taken leadership of the project.

My point was, it doesn't bother me about the Sith, when I was a kid of 9 years old in 1977 & all the information a kid could get of Star Wars was what was given to you, Snaggletooth, R5-D4, Power Droid, X-Wing Fighters, Star Destroyers, Y-Wings,......all these ships, vehicles.....aliens & people....their names weren't mentioned in the film....along with that was Darth Vader Dark Lord of the Sith
It made perfect sense to name the Dark Force users Sith in the Prequels (about the only thing that did)
J
Yeah, it makes sense to call them that, but what this revenge they are seeking is about is never explained in the films, yet the 3rd one is titled "Revenge Of The Siths" as if it were a major part of the story. I can remember Maul saying "at last we will have our revenge" and i can remember thinking, "well, I guess we will find out what that's all about in the next one..." but, as far as I remember, they never explained...

I can't see it at work, but I can see the first frame and it seems to be Adywan's destruction of Alderaan from ANH:R.

Yes, but it has the surrounding Star Wars shots.
They lifted an ANH:R clip that was itself lifted from Stargate SG-1. ^_^

I thought I just explained that.
In The Phantom Menace, Ki-Adi-Mundi (a Jedi on the council) says that "the Sith have been extinct for a millenium." Who would have most likely wiped them out? The Jedi, obviously. One would think they despise the Jedi for that.
Not to mention the Sith are evil, so they hate the Jedi anyway, and Palpatine is quite likely to have devised some reason--any reason--to get Maul to despise them further (since hate makes him powerful).

Why is that so obvious? Was it established earlier that it's common place for the Jedi to eradicate entire groups of people? In Star Wars Obi-Wan mentions that Vader hunted down and destroyed the Jedi Knights, but there is no mention anywhere that the Jedi also hunted down and destroyed the Siths. Once again, none of this is "obvious" unless you've read a bunch of EU books and comics.
Anyway, I just wanted confirmation on what the siths are supposed to be and I've got that now. The rest of this is just peeling back the layers of crap that cover the PT, only to find more crap underneath.

Hell yes. My favorite game is LOZALTTP.
It's also the first I recommend to people who described themselves as "non-gamers". They usually become "gamers" after playing it. ^_^

In Star Wars Obi-Wan mentions that Vader hunted down and destroyed the Jedi Knights, but there is no mention anywhere that the Jedi also hunted down and destroyed the Siths. Once again, none of this is "obvious" unless you've read a bunch of EU books and comics.
For the record, I've only read the Darth Bane books (which, incidentally, are written by Drew Karpyshyn, the lead writer for the first 2 Mass Effect games and SW:KOTOR, among other things). That doesn't qualify as "a bunch." Also, I know how to Google for results on Wookieepedia, which is what told me the difference between a Sith and a Dark Jedi--not my having read EU books.
Anyway, it is obvious that the Jedi would have been responsible for eradicating the Sith because they're the only people who stand the remotest possible chance of accomplishing it.
Although, actually...
Spoiler:
in the Darth Bane books, it was not the Jedi who destroyed most of the Sith. it was Darth Bane himself, as he wanted to become more powerful, and had discovered that the more dark force users there were, the less power each of them had. He then decided that the best way to destroy the Jedi was to for the Sith to hide in secrecy, gain power, and only reveal themselves to the Jedi when it was too late.
So, either the Darth Bane books (which were written after Episode I was already released) are correct, and Palpatine was lying to Maul about the Sith seeking revenge in order for Maul to gain power through hatred; or else they are unofficial EU books which don't fit to the movies, and the revenge that is sought most likely directly relates to the Sith having become near-extinct at the hands of the Jedi.
Take your pick.
