No, it goes, four, five, six, one, two, three… No, it goes: four, five, six. One... Two and three have not been made." "Two and three have not been made! What should they be?" "What should they be? We do not know. All we know is that there will be a big floppy character in it that goes, squawk squawk squawk... who needs a punch up the bracket!"

Chief Architect of Cynical MoralityI was at a festival/flea market thing this weekend and found a booth that had nothing but framed pictures of movies with film cells from the trailers for the movie in them. They were pretty neat. He had two Star Wars ones, a small one that had frames from the SE trailer, and a bigger one that had some frames from an original trailer. The white solid logo, no original effects shots. The guy said that those were the only frames that were any good in the whole trailer, and even those we terribly red.
I still almost bought it, just for those frames. I didn't because we didn't have the money and the rest were SE effects shots. 97 Jabba was a definite "noooo" for me.

See You, Space Cowboy...http://www.spike.com/video-clips/5maie1/scream-darth-vader-wins-the-ultimate-villain Vader on SpikeTV's Awards... with surprise visit from George! If he approved Vader's lines in this than it's obvious at this point that he must know and relish in the fact that he's basically reached self-parody.

Just a simple manHas anyone else noticed how prevalent the "slow zoom" is in the prequels? I think it's the only shot in Lucas' repertoire as a director, other than the over-the-shoulder seated dialogue.
A few examples:
- Qui-Gon at dinner table
- Obi-Wan and Jango talking
- Padme on ground unconscious on Mustafar
There are probably hundreds of shots like this where the camera slowly zooms in on something. Maybe I'm just a hater and don't understand Lucas' brilliance as a director.

I'd recommend checking out the rest, there's a heartwarming Slave Leia/Jabba one and the two Indy ones are pretty great.

Twisted & EvilPeople have peobably already mentioned this but... Saw "Darth Vader" on the Scream awards last night. He won for Ultimate Villain. The film montage had mostly OT clips with a few Ep.3 shots of Anikin. The entire event was lame as usual, but I found Vaders acceptance speech kinda funny. He mentioned hating all the constant changes and remarked that he wouldn't be surprised to see an ewok in the deathstar trench next time. Then George showed up as if to show the world that not even a guy dressed and acting as Darth Vader clamoring for the originals and a huge auditorium of cheering fans will change his mind about deleting the originals and continuing to add silliness to the films. blah.

very few creative shots in the PT, especially TPM. :(
his brilliance is non-existent. And even before the PT, lucas was not highly thought of as a director within the filmmaking community.
during AOTC, mccallum said that he found a cool crane for lucas to use. he said lucas doesn't like crane shots.
reason being? "too cumbersome"
!!!
i mean, for f*** sake. he's a 'visual' filmmaker and doesn't want to have overhead shots!? when I read that, all those horror stories regarding the 1977 shoot of star wars lost resonance and it just drove home the point that lucas simply wants to put minimal effort into making these movies (too his credit, he did end up using the crane).
In one interview during TPM, Lucas claimed that he always wanted to go back to directing and blamed the media (as usual) for making it sound like he hates directing. Suffice it is to say, after the viewing the results of the PT- lucas does hate directing.

Just a simple manLucas as a director reminds me of Anakin's "I will keep people from dying" line.
The shoot for SW was quite troublesome with financial burdens, desert storms wrecking sets, last-minute editing, etc. I appreciate what Lucas went through personally to see that movie completed. Yet, it's as though that experience gave him a deep resolve to never go through a similar process again.

star wars fan since age 2in ESB theres a funny scene:
3PO - captain solo, might i have a word with you please?
Han Solo - what do you want?
3PO- Princess Leia has been trying to contact you on the communicator -
Solo - I turned it off, I don;t want to talk to her
3PO- Oh....well, Princess Leia is wondering about master luke, he hasn't come back yet...she doesn't know where he is -
Solo - I don't know where he is!
3PO - Nobody knows where he is!
is there anything like this in the PT? this kind of clever banter between 2 characters?! maybe the first few minutes between anakin and obi-wans on grevious's ship? good god, almost all of TPM, the movie is -
one character saying something
panaka saying he disagrees or feels it won't work
first character say to trust their judgment.
its such a joke. by the time we get to ROTS, the dialog isn't as gag inducing, but its just there to move the plot along. thats all the characters do. RLM made a joke of how none of the characters in TPM are memorable. Whats even worse is - except anakin and palpatine - so much of the dialog is interchangeable for the different characters, it wouldn;t have mattered who said what. Lucas refused to take any effort and time into creating characters.
