Well, I for one think this picture looks kind of cool. It's a bow to the real world samurai origin of the Jedi. And as to the robes, the Jedi are basically a religious cult - look at how monks dressed hundreds of years ago and how they dress now, practically no change there.
Well, I think it is the color coded metal blades that is the real eye roller there. The robes didn't strike me as too odd for the same reasons you explained above.

But this is an illustration of a moment in time where the ancient Jedi didn't have a dress code, and weren't cultic in the practice of their religion. Your reasoning doesn't mesh with the EU's already established portrayal of the pre-PT Jedi Order.

Han D. SoloOh, well, I don't know sh*t about that, I really don't care for anything pre-OT.

Chief Architect of Cynical MoralityI've decided on a good way to differentiate us from regular "Star Wars Fans".
We are fans of "The Adventures of Luke Skywalker", not "The Tragedy of Darth Vader" or whatever the prequels and SE are supposed to retcon the original trilogy into.

Hey, it's no problem. I'm not one of those guys who thinks every Star Wars fan should accept the EU as canon and to take it into consideration every time they talk about the subject =)
Frankly, my beef's with the PT fantards who run the EU and insist on shoving these stupid PT-inspired anachronisms into the mix; if anyone should be expected to be consistent with the established EU, it's them.

Chief Architect of Cynical MoralityI didn't even think about it being a stretch for the prequels to have that "theme". I just can't see "tall dark bad guy" being the main character in "A New Hope".DuracellEnergizer said:
Why does Lucas even call it the Tragedy of Darth Vader? The goddamn prequels focus on Palpatine's political manipulations and his progression from senator to supreme chancellor to emperor more than Vader or any other character/event. The Saga is "The Rise and Fall of Palpatine" more than anything else.

Leia's "walking carpet" line has always bugged me, do we even see a carpet anywhere in the trilogy? It's an instant back-to-Earth-ism for me that line. And it's not even funny...
That part of it has never bothered me, while I am not sure if we ever see a carpet in the trilogy (Ben's hut? Yoda's hut? Jabba's palace? Owen and Beru's? Bespin, perhaps.
Page 15 of "Creating the Worlds of Star Wars by John Knoll" book shows Ben's hut did indeed have a fur rug of some kind (wookiee?) on the floor. I've never noticed it in the film itself.
