All of EditDroids documentaries came from laserdisc. I don't know about digital vs. analog audio though. But given the very limited mono source material, I don't see how that would matter much.
Obviously, the analog Vs digital difference don't lies only in the audio quality (that should be better, if maybe only slightly, on the digital soundtracks), but, IMHO, on the fact that the digital audio versions were released about ten years after, and probably also mastering/restoration techniques and/or masters used were better - it should be verified taking two different captures from old (analog) and new (digital) laserdiscs and comparing them side by side...
Some of them, I forget which, had the burned-in Japanese subs.
"From Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga" and "Star Wars: Classic Creatures: Return of the Jedi" should have them; if not, they WERE NOT captured from laserdiscs, as they exist on laserdisc format only as japanese subtitled ones... reading this uncovers why FStJ:TMoaS is not present in the official BD box set...
The other two could be from US laserdiscs - hence, without japanese subs - but I don't know if the video quality is the same of the japanese counterparts, as it is well known that at the beginning of the laserdisc history (about up to the first half of the (19)80's) the US laserdisc editions were not high quality, and often prone to laser rot, where japanese edition had highest video and mastering quality.
They did replace all of the trilogy movie footage and some of the clips from other movies with cleaner sources though.
If I'll try to do the same, I will first make the TESB and ROTJ restoration...
I still don't know if a "comprehensive laserdisc supplemental project" should be started, as the EditDroid and RowMan sets supplemental discs are stuffed with all the OT docs I intended to use, plus something more... They only lacks 1997 SE docs, but, how many persons could be interested in them nowadays?!?
Plus, when released on AVCHD and/or BD and/or DVD, they will must have proper menus, and I can't do them for now...

Jedi KnightThere were two from star wars to jedi releases in Japan. The first issue clearly an ancient analog master with analog audio only while the second one was done in the nineties and came from a digital master and had digital sound.
First release available separately, second only in a boxed set of the original trilogy. I think the transfers the same as definitive collection only in CLV and not CAV.
The rarer Definitive box second issue with the mistakes corrected from first issue boxset had making of star wars, spfx and classic creatures in new digital transfers also available separately. But they left off the Creative impulse book.

Did that version of Making of Star Wars have the original William Conrad narration, or did it have the updated Don LaFontaine narration that was on the 1995 mail-away VHS?
Also, I believe that all video releases of SPFX removed clips from Mary Poppins and The Black Hole - presumably because Lucas only licensed them for TV, and Disney asked too much to license them again for video.

No the 1995 version seems to be an oddity all other versions i have seen have the original British accent narrator. Why they decided to use the guy who sounds like Sergeant Friday from Dragnet is beyond my limited understanding of such things.

Laserdisc MasterYesterday (friday the 17th, a unlucky day in Italy) my main computer decided to not work anymore... maybe is only the video card - I hope so...
As I had a day off, I planned to start a new restoration project, but, as most if not all of my avisynth scripts are there, and I'm to lazy to open the case (buried under a pile of laserdisc players...) to take off the HDs, I switched on his "big brother" (the PC I'm working on right now) and I took a look at some half-done projects...
I retrieved the 1997 SE featurettes captured from the UK, german and french PAL laserdiscs, so... let's work with them, I said myself!
At the end, I have now the three featurettes, related to episodes IV, V and VI, joined together as they were in the UK PAL lasedisc boxset, but I've added some missing frames taken from the french laserdisc (luckily, without subtitles and in english...); I included audio soundtracks in english and german (this is 99.5% accurate, as I've added around 4 seconds of the english audio to match the lenght); subtitles in french and italian - copied from the hard subs - must be added... any volunteer? (,**)
If someone is interested in this, post your comment here - I've thought to release it at 720p (960x720 4:3 inside a 1280x720 frame) 25fps AVCHD - along with the usual noise reduction, to match my SET project, but maybe someone could be interested in SD MPEG2 files, to make a PAL DVD - in this case, let me know about a free, open source MPEG2 encoder to use with virtualdub...

As I wrote, to make an MPEG2 file (to use for DVD) I need an MPEG2 encoder, as my spare PC has not one... if someone is aware of a free, open source MPEG2 encoder that could be used with VirtualDub, post a link here please!
About mkv: m2ts files, the ones used in AVCHD and BD, could be read by a PC, like a mks file... so, I think it's useless to release a mvk version, as it will have the same content, in a different container...

If you are talking about me, I'm (still) alive... (^^,)
If you are talking about this project, well, it's "on standby" mode, undefinitely, as I'm involved into other projects. But I have not cancelled it, so remain subscribed to this thread, if I'll make any updates I'll post them here.
