Update: Had a quick scan of it. I have a feeling dark_jedi's next version will become THE one to own.

Have you had a chance to watch the whole thing yet?

How does it compare with the Pwnage version and the dark_jedi/G-force version?

No, haven't watched it all. I can't really compare things properly right now anyway, as the screen on my TV has developed a [quite possibly] permanent garish pink tint. The blues pop, but every shade of green looks pinkish gray. And so it's a little easier on the eyes, I've lowered the color quite a bit and boosted the brightness too. Quite annoying. I do have another TV that's working properly, but I don't think I'd use it for any serious comparisons. (and they're "just" CRT, anyway)

DJ, that Version 3 cap looks - to me - far superior than either of the two caps EvilSupes posted.  That's got me immensely excited for your V3 release!  *Jumps up and down like a little girl*

V3

Now that looks like a film! I'm glad to see there are major changes being made in the grain removal scripting. The newer Editdroid has a tad better fine detail, but only when you subject the caps under a microscope; the slightly less grain and anti-aliasing is a worthwhile tradeoff. It will be interesting to see this in motion. :)

The Secret History of Star Wars -- now available on Amazon.com!

Hello everyone,

This is probably going to be a silly question...but I'm getting a little confused about the numerous various versions of projects.

I'm looking for the best quality version of Star Wars that is closest to the original 1977 theatrical version.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I'm looking for a good laserdisc transfer that has been converted to anamorphic. Is that right?  I've heard editdroid mentioned and dark_jedi...but which is the best? and how do I get hold of it/them?

I hear that many people are not happy with the official release of 'star wars' original theatrical 2006...

So, are there any fan preservation/edits to better it?

sorry to be so uninformed!

best

dR

You're posting in a thread dedicated to one of them. ;)

This thread is for the latest EditDroid version. There are also versions done by dark_jedi (he's now working on a 3rd version, which should be the ultimate!), and there's one called the "Lucasfilm Pwnage Edition", made by Moth3r and Belbucus. They all use the 2006 theatrical versions (GOUT) as a basis.

Most agree that fan projects based off the 2006 release (the "GOUT" DVD) are better quality than the laserdisc transfers.

You can find a summary and comparison of the most popular projects in this thread.

This thread is for the latest EditDroid version.

I've now changed the title to make it clearer what this thread is about.

Further, why does it look bad?  Read through the thread and find some examples of how to review something.

"This is shit" is a rude and pointless post.

"This is shit, and here's why..." is merely a rude post.

O.K. maybe that was the wrong way to word what i wanted to say , im not here to make enemies. I will say this though , i dont like the picture of this edit , i think it just looks like the official release only its anamorphic. But then again thanks to zombie84 for sharing it with everyone , it may have been something so much better. Who knows, maybe someday someone will come to this site with a pristine version of the original trilogy.

Was this ever made available ?

Yes...it was. It hit many torrent sites and is still on there if I remember correctly. You can probably get it easily.
