AKA: Old Biff from the FutureExorcist II: The Heretic - The Director's Recut - AKA: The Mark 4 Cut
The Project:
Recently, my partner and I decided to take on this project in order to breathe a little from doing one continious project (Superman The Movie: The KCOP cut). Exorcist II - The Heretic - The 110 Minute Director's Recut was chosen as the alternate project. The film was released in the early 80's on VHS in fullscreen but we have obtained other material from various sources so that we can restore the film to its original Boorman recut look. We have decided to restore this cut using several rare cuts of the film to create (for the first time ever) a widesceen DVD release of the film. A trailer for the recut is below.
About the Film:
Shortly after its original release, John Boorman re-cut Exorcist II: The Heretic in response to audience reactions. Boorman shortened certain scenes, deleted some lines of dialogue, changed the order of some scenes, and changed some musical cues (most noticeably over the opening and closing titles). The plot, however, is not significantly different between the two versions of the film excpet for the ending. The original, completely uncut 118-minute release is now available on DVD. However, in the 1980s, the 110-minute re-edit was released on VHS. The differences in the 110-minute version, as compared to the 118-minute version, are as follows:
Project Trailer: The film is in its final stage in its editing phase and we have constucted a trailer for a sneak peak at the restoration. (be sure to watch the trailer in its highest quality)
This edit has a TBA release date.

Heh, this is interesting to me. I probably watched this VHS when I was a kid, so I don't remember much from it besides some locust scenes. Heard that the film just falls apart despite whatever version. I'll have to rent the 118 minutes DVD and see what I have been missing.
On a related note, I was reading that the original Exorcist III unreleased director's cut might have been lost forever. :(

Always found this movie interesting despite it being a cheesefest.
Looking forward to this release, keep up the good work!

The official DVD finally arrived from my Netflix queue. I watched it and the Recut the day after. I guess in some ways the recut works, but the transitions are abrupt. Overall, the two versions are more like a drama than a horror film. I don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be, but it's still not very good. At least Boorman was able to rebound with his following film, Excalibur.
Mitch -- FYI, there's a LD version of the recut out there. It doesn't seem like you had access to it.

WOuld be cool. Rapidshare.com has my preference but TPB is also good (I know TPB is being monitored in my country, so that's why I'm telling about an alternative).
