Really? I can't say I bought it back in 1983. Jabba is not just fat, he has no neck to choke. He's a frikken slug!
Of course how else could Leia kill him?

I still think that you could just cut out Vader's arrival in the beginning of JEDI and just start with C3P0 and R2 walking up to Jabba's palace, and leave the reveal of the Death Star 2 when the Emperor arrives. Vader's arrival to the DS2 adds nothing and is redundant, as we're reintroduced to the DS2 with the Emperor.
Disagree. Vader's arrival and conversation with Moff J sets up the ominous news that "The Emperor is coming here?!". The fear in J's voice, followed by his immediate, trembling resolve to redouble his efforts, tell the viewer a lot about the Emperor.
Could we have it BOTH ways? Avoid the full exterior view? Could push the reveal back to the Emp or even later. I suppose the reb briefing would have to be quick and very general.

Hi, guys. New member.
I love what Ady did with Star Wars, and I hope the same care to staying true with the original story is first on his list when he finishes the other OT movies. That being said, ROTJ needs more fixes than the previous films, but nothing more than minor tweaks here and there, mind you.
*RESPONSES IN CAPS*
1. Jabba slapping Threepio just looks too slow. A slight fast forward should fix that.
PERSONALLY ITS NEVER BOTHERED ME...HE HAS BULK BEHIND HIS SWING SO ITS BELIEVEABLE THAT IT WOULD KNOCK 3P0 DOWN...BUT I HAVE NO CLUE IF ADY HAS PLANS HERE...
*It just looked phony to me, that's all.*
2. Tortured droid's feet in one scene don't touch the hot brands. This should have been fixed in the Special Edition with a little cgi.
MY GUESS IS ADY WILL FIX THIS
*hope to god he does*
3. Lando's cross belt is flipped from scene to scene while he talks to Han about loaning the Falcon for the Death Star attack. Maybe the scenes can be flipped back into proper sequence.
ADY HAS A HISTORY OF CORRECTING FLIPPED SHOTS.
*the guy's a pro*
4. Luke's lightsaber is nowhere to be found on his belt while he's carrying Vader to a shuttle. Again, cgi quick fix.
AGAIN, NO IDEA OF ADY'S SPECIFIC PLAN HERE....BUT LUKE THROWS IT AWAY TO MAKE A POINT TO THE EMPEROR. IT SEEMS LOGICAL TO ME THAT HE WOULDN'T HAVE RETRIEVED IT IN THE HURRY TO GET HIS FATHER AND HIMSELF OFF THE DSII.
*he has it on him during Ewok celebration, which implies he did.*
5. Scene where storm troopers are attacked from behind by ewoks should be sped up slightly to make it seem like the little buggers are actually hurting them.
THAT WHOLE BATTLE IS BEING ADDRESSED TO MAKE THE EWOKS MORE BELIEVABLE AS A FIGHTING FORCE.
*that's good.*
6. Imperial scout on speeder bike looks stopped before exploding from Chewie's laser blast. Minor tweak should make the speeder bike look like it wasn't stopped.
AGAIN, ODDS ARE THIS WILL BE ADDRESSED.
*again, good.*
7. Human henchman in Jabba's palace keeps steering up into camera during Rancor scene. Maybe cgi, again, could alter his eyes so he looks like he's staring downward.
NEVER NOTICED THIS. DON'T KNOW IF ITS SOMETHING THATS EVER BOTHERED ADY.
*really? It's during Luke's battle with the Rancor and not Oola's, mind you.*
8. Boba Fett's rockets look a little crooked when he ignites them on the sail barge. Should be fixed so it doesn't look odd.
IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY ADY AGREES THAT MANY OF THE FETT FLYING EFFECTS WERE DONE RATHER DODGILY AND HE PLANS TO ADDRESS THAT.
*good*
9. Make it seem that Jabba is really being choked hard by the chains.
NEVER HAD A PROBLEM BELIEVING THIS MYSELF.
*not sure if this can be fixed, but maybe chain can look more like it's cutting into flesh.*
10. fix the imperial bunker's missing locked door while Han impersonates as an imperial officer to get them to open it.
GOT A SCREENCAP? NOT AWARE OF THIS ONE.
*hmm. Maybe they already addressed this. It was a scene that was either before or after Han was impersonating as an Imperial. Can't remember, really.*
Im sure there's more, but these have always bothered me since I was a kid.

Potentially it could be removed from that shot (not saying it WILL be, just saying Ady could go either way on this)

It would make sense that he did retrieve it since he might have to fight his way out of the Death Star.

Thats one way to look at it. Ady might decide that its more symbolic of Luke's now very solid grasp of the force for him to throw it away and never go pick it back up.....figuring that he can use the force to just deal with anything that may come up. Additionally, the DSII is being destroyed...no-one is interested in where Luke is going at that point, they all just want off, the same as he does.

Was going to mention that....along with the fact that in the OT the loss of a lightsaber is usually accompanied by some big plot point......thus necessitating a change in a character's arc AND the building of a new lightsaber.........in the PT they just lose them every 5 mins and it means nothing.

Hi Ady! It's been a long time!
Alright, you're not even nearly done with ESB: R, but I've watched the Bluray version of RotJ and I've made a list of suggestions. I hope you could eventually take a minute to look at these? These suggestions are only for the first 30 minutes so far (before the execution scene), but here they are :) :
Oh, and before I forget: The following things also bugged me a lot:
These are my suggestions for now :) Sorry for my bad English, and also sorry if this all looks a little bit greedy. I don't mean it that way. I really love your work and I only want to help!
Good luck! You're awesome!

I'm sure he would have just easily used the Force to float it back to him. It's not like he couldn't, or wouldn't do that, especially in the situation he was in.

I disagree. You HAVE found a continuity error here, no-one is disputing that. But I think if faced with the choice of correcting it either by editing it back into the scene where it is missing, or editing it out of the scene that creates the error in the first place......I think it far more compelling for Luke to throw it away and basically say to himself "I won't be needing that again". Film 6 is the end of SW....so what resonates in the mind more? A happy picture perfect ending with our heroes (and the audience) sure of their place in the world. Or Luke saying to himself (and to us, through his actions) "I'll have no further use for this lightsaber"? Is he giving up being a Jedi? Is he planning on becoming more spiritual and wise...like his former teacher Yoda...thereby not really needing a lightsaber? Its open ended in a way that stimulates the imagination, rather than wrapping everything up nicely and spelling it all out for us. Thats just my view though...

"This is a film by a filmmaker desperately in love with filmmaking" - Harold KnowlesI agree with you, Muddy. Yoda and the Emperor did not have lightsabres (even cute tiny ones) because THEY DID NOT NEED THEM. That was (at least to me) the entire point behind being a Jedi Master. You did not need a lightsabre.
Lucas kinda forgot this with the prequels, or more likely didn't care. Besides, how else are you going to show 2 masters duking it out?

i have been working on a little project for a while now. it was to redo the effect that made luke's lightsaber fat.
my 1st attempt a year back came out okay but everything else looked like it came out of a bad tanning salon.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X471jswkwsw
my recent one came out a lot better and i went above to replace some of the backgrounds to make the scene more dun seaish

enthusiasti was reading a gary kurtz interview a while back, which discusses how he might have tackled ROTJ, and kept the series going.
does anyone know if there is a bank of information regarding this? was there an original screenplay produced before he quit?

The Holy DrinkerBeen skimming over a number of pages myself and wow the wealth of ideas making ROTJ:R an even more coherent film. I'm already getting excited at the prospects not to mention what Ady and Co. decide to include in the film.
I love the idea of a third Death Star twist plus Piett making a bold sacrifice. Can it really be done though? And some of the artwork is simply jawdropping too. Man oh man it's going to be a long wait but it will be worth it. And I'll gladly contribute a number of donations to the cause like with ESB:R.
And to you too, 005. Love that link with your list of ideas for ROTJ:R. A pity some of the artwork has been deleted though. Could they be reinserted if possible? I know it's been a few years since you posted it but it would be cool to see it updated (dreams are for free of course). I hope you don't mind me advertising your link here too especially for those who haven't seen it yet. :)
