I was going back and looking at the old Dark/Sega rips of the JSC LDs, and I really think that there needs to be some kind of new preservation of them. The old rips are interlaced, 4x3, and don't look so good.
I have seen Arnie.d's "V8 - A Final Attempt", which was deinterlaced and upconverted(?) and it looked darn good to me. I really wish there were something similar for ESB and ROTJ. A couple years ago, there was talk about V8, X9, something Aleksbmw was doing. But it all seems to have fallen by the wayside.
The JSCs are the best source of a non-DNR'ed pre-SE -- well, the only, since the American widescreen discs were sourced from them. I'd love to see them cleaned up, without ugly combing and stuff. All the LDs from '93 and onward have good preservations, I think the JSCs deserve it too...

There was another non-DVNR'd US disc for Star Wars that was not sourced from the JSC. It is discussed here. Was there an equivalent pressing for ESB and ROTJ?
However, with the talk of crosstalk defects on the SW disc you are probably correct to say that the JSC is the best source.

I'd love to see it too, but sadly, it seems that most here are either perfectly happy with the DVNR, or lack the equipment to do it themselves.
D_J redid the JSCs, but he's not going to release them =/

This space for rentGlad some people agree with me. I have another reason I'd love to see better JSC preservations - the JSCs are basically widescreen equivalents of how the trilogy looked on video in the late 80s (i.e., the 1987/1990 issues). A bit of sentimental value to me there...

Jedi KnightExcept for the bad burned in subtitles and the screen being misframed.misaligned for the Japanese subtitles at least they were in CAV format unlike the us ones only with the alien dialogs hardsubbed.

sky, these issues you mentioned are nothing at all, very easily fixed, you just crop and resize and add the correct black bars, wallah, no Japanese text and correctly centered pic.
