Does Anyone Have The Old Original Theater Bootleg '77 Tape?
I have wanted to get a copy of this for as long as I can remember. If anyone here has it or knows someone who does, I would be in your debt forever if I could somehow get a copy of it.
And apologies if this has been brought up before. I did a search and didn't find anything.
Thanks!

I for one would LOVE to see a DVD transfer of this. This and the original stereo mix for SW (ripped from LD).

I have a DVD that MeBeJedi made from a VHS copy I have of this.
Just to be perfectly clear on what this is, it's a very high-generation (i.e. low quality) copy of a telecine of the original 1977 release of Star Wars with the mono soundtrack and original crawl. It doesn't look or sound very good, but it's a neat record of something long forgotten. The DVD itself has both a 1.0 Dolby track and 2.0 (dual mono) PCM track, so it could be used for other projects.
I can't be making a bunch of copies of this, because I'm running low on resources, but I'll be more than happy to make a copy for someone who could then give it a bit more distribution.
If you want to contact me, please, please email me. My PMs are turned off because I just plain don't like dealing in PM space. If you email me at reverendbeastly AT gmail DOT com, I will respond swiftly. Thanks!

Which LD release had the original stereo mix? Are you talking about before the 3PO line was added when Burtt did the remix?

I might be mistaken, but wasn't there another Editdroid Star Wars release that had this mix on it? there were two made, and one that doesn't get much distribution. I know that there is only one on myspleen.

Where am I????
Does Anyone Have The Old Original Theater Bootleg '77 Tape?
The Original EditDroid ANH did have a Mono Mix from a VHS recording although I am unsure if it is from either of the VHS tapes mentioned in this thread.
The only other Mono Mix I know of is from the ITV broadcast back in the 80's and was used for the
Molly Prototype Mono Pre-ANH "XP77:4EB" Edit:: Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
:: The mono soundmix
:: Source Details
Source is VHS; movie taped from a UK ITV broadcast approximately 20 years ago.
Audio is on the linear track - no hifi on VHS back then!
Source is PAL @ 25fps, so if you NTSC guys want to use this in your DVD projects
I guess you will need to slow down by ~4%.
Several seconds of audio are missing from both the beginning and the end, and there
are also occasional gaps; whoever recorded this paused the tape for the ad breaks but was sometimes a bit slow at
restarting the tape. The tape is very worn at the start and the audio drops out
and goes wobbly several times during the title music. It will take a lot of
perseverance to get this audio in sync with a good copy of the video.
For those who may be interested, the EditDroid ANH with Mono soundtrack has just been posted on a.b.sw

Yes- only that wasn't the only change that was made. He added some new stereo sound effects and fudged the sound in other small ways as well (not nearly as noticeably as he did to the '93 mix, though).
Any LD made before 1985 would have this mix on it, although the speed would need to be decreased for inclusion in a project (the 1st LD's were time-compressed). I would love to see this mix coupled with either/or the '87 widescreen LD's or the 93/95 LD's for the picture.

I thought there was a japanese one that wasn't time compressed, but I could be wrong.

Oh- I don't believe you're wrong at all; I just wasn't aware of that release. That's fantastic!
If someone somehow got hold of this 1983 Japanese LD and ripped the audio, that would be the ideal copy of the original stereo mix. I know Neil S. Bulk has a copy that was ripped from a time-compressed LD and then decreased in speed; however, even this has yet to surface in a project.

Not that I have anything constructive to add to this, but just when I think I'm satisfied with a copy of the original Star Wars, some intriquing bit of info like this comes along. Can't wait to see how this develops.

Yup. I just mentioned the 3PO bit as that is the best way to associate it. Though I know it was re-added for the SE after it disappeared again in '93. Along with the "close the blast doors" and other small bits. Would have been nice to see him re-incorporate "blast it, Wedge, where are you" as well. Of all the re-additions to the SE sound mix you would have thought that would have been an obvious fix. (Other than the contention that Luke is actually wondering where his friend is and why he doesn't bail him out before Wedge comes to the rescue.)
I have all of the VHS releases, but have a few gaps in my LD collection. Most notably the Japanese releases. (Which is why it is awesome that sega and DJ are hooking us up with that "Special Collection" rip. After finding this site, I am considering beefing up my computer set up so that I can have at some "back up" sets of my own. I've gotten fairly adept at DVD authoring (with the help of DVD Architect, of course...heheh) lately and would love to learn more about the ins and outs of this stuff. This site is quite simply one of the best finds I have ever come across on the net over the past ten years. The community here is second to none.

Wonder why Molly no longer posts here?
As far as I know, the mono audio on the EditDroid DVD came from a copy of the '77 bootleg tape. Anyone who has grabbed this off a.b.sw - what's the audio quality like compared to the '80s TV broadcast version?
I will be recapturing the TV version again very soon, this time using a professional VCR. If there's any interest, I could put it out synced up to an XviD rip of my DVD?

The EditDroid Mono is much quieter and weaker to the version you captured.
A new capture synched to your PAL transfer as a DIVX or DVD would be appreciated.

The 1983 CAV LD of
Star Wars has the original 1977 Dolby Stereo mix and it's not time compressed. That's what I used to assemble the original mix.
The CLV LD from that time period were time compressed. I didn't use it.
The EditDroid discs use the 1985 Ben Burtt re-mix.

Did you use this in a DVD project perhaps? Or do you just have the mix? Either way, it's great that there's a copy of it around.

What would really be great would be a dual layered disc with all of the different mixes represented. Picture quality could take a back seat to a nice representation to the many varied sound mixes that have popped up throughout the years.
Does anyone here have all of the different mixes? I know I was reading one of the threads a few days back where someone was mentioning that they had uncompressed PCM tracks on disc of some of the mixes, but I don't remember if it was all of them.
I think this would be a great release.

A disc featuring 8 seperate audio tracks has been a plan of MeBeJedi's for a while, but since 8 is the max and new ones kept popping up, I think he's put that on hold for now. Either that or he was waiting for the X0 transfer to be finalized before making that disc.

I know you sent me a version. It was an Apple format (FLAC? Or is that minidisc?) I've got a large amount of various source materials that I really need to categorize.
"A disc featuring 8 seperate audio tracks has been a plan of MeBeJedi's for a while, but since 8 is the max and new ones kept popping up, I think he's put that on hold for now. Either that or he was waiting for the X0 transfer to be finalized before making that disc."For the most part, yes. The video requires a great deal more work. The audio stuff is easy, even speeding/slowing/syncing the audio is a piece of cake in Vegas.
Once the video is done, a lower-resolution transfer can be made to accomodate more audio channels.
