RE: Doctors not seeing kids withot vaccinations

Since this thread has veered toward an abortion discussion ...

I'm pro-choice, myself.  And even if abortion were illegal (which I don't think it should be), I think it would be disgusting if someone who was pregnant due to rape was not allowed to abort the child.

And that's all I'm going to say on that subject.  I tend to get too upset at people for disagreeing with me on the issue, so I'm just gonna quit while I'm ahead.

As for the other subject, I'm probably going to get some flack for saying this, but I can't say I see rape, as horrible and scarring as it is, as justification for abortion.  I do have a difficult time saying that with complete certainty, though.  However, for the couple whose child was sure not to survive, I can certainly see an abortion in that case to be justifiable.

You might feel different if you got pregnant from a rape.

yes, you are right.   Gaffer might feel different.  I am not sure how I feel about it.

forcing a raped woman to carry a baby to term vs. potential murder

I don't know the answers.

I seriously hope I will live enough to see the original Star Wars trilogy in this quality
You will not. None of us will, except for a very old and dying Ziggy Stardust who will watch it through teary eyes as he remembers us all.

You'll be fine... so long as we don't end up with socialized medicine here in the States...

haha.  : |

we've been over the health care debate over and over again in the political thread.   Let's not do that here yet again.    besides . . . I promised not to talk politics.

Well, you're usually very pro socialized medicine, just know that this is an example of what you could be facing if you get your wish. This is the sort of thing governments do.

Don't sigh. I am not trying to drag you into a "political" discussion. Just giving you something to think about. It isn't a hypothetical, or a speculation, as you heard from adywan it is something that is happening in the UK; a very modern and progressive part of the world under the same sort of health care system some of us dream of having here in the states. There are other things like this happening under other socialized health care systems, but some of us are still in the habit of filtering those realities out and letting our eyes glaze over with visions of utopia.

It's happening because a conservative government is trying to dismantle the system to make a fast buck at the expense of the poor and it's a very unpopular move, once made difficult to reverse.

Dismantling an existing state health system against the wishes of the population is as chaotic and insane as assembling one without a broad consensus (if not more so).
