Life of deer to human embryo.

I'd kill a deer before an embryo.

I'd torture a dolphin to death to save a fetus.

And I'm pro-choice. I just think any human life, or potential human life, is worth more than an animal.

well, if one is of the opinion that life begins at conception, one would have to put the human embryo over that of the life of the deer.

Any animal?  What about a dog?  What about your dog (assuming you have one)?

Why is a human embryo worth more than an animal?  What about an embryo that is not viable?

If it was kill my dog or a pregnant woman miscarries? Goodbye April. (that's my dog).

Nonviable as in not ready to be born, or nonviable as in will never be able to survive birth (as in that article you posted)?

Nonviable as in never will be able to survive birth.

...

Or what if it has a 99.99999999999999% chance of not making it past two days outside the womb?

...

I don't mean to say that I don't think an embryo has value.  I just hate when people say "life begins at conception" as a blanket statement and that the destruction of any embryo is murder.

well, if you believe life begins at conception,  human embryo is worth more than an animal for the same reason a human is worth more than an animal.

So an embryo would be equal to a human?

I don't beleive that. I just think that human life, unique in all the universe, is worth more than animals, even potential human life.

And to reiterate, I'm pro-choice and love animals.

I know you don't believe that, otherwise you wouldn't be pro-choice.  Just throwing some questions out there for once, instead of just posting random shit about penguins.

Anyway, I forgot the point I was trying to make.  Probably something about people who hunt but oppose any kind of abortion in any situation, but I don't remember now.

well, first I have to say that we have heard no evidence that the embryo in the raped woman(if an embryo was indeed created from the rape)  had no chance to survive birth(if carried to term).   For all we know, if there was an embryo it could have been perfectly healthy.  If however, it was the case that the embryo or fetus or whatever you want to call it had no chance to survive birth and/or had a 99.99999999999999%  of not making past two days, I can't say I'd have a problem with it being aborted.

please remember I wasn't making a blanket statement of my own beliefs, I was merely stating what most anti-abortion people(and the doctor in the case of the raped woman)  believe.

I know, Warb.  And I was just inventing hypotheticals*.

Just to be clear, I don't hunt.

As for those that do, their rational is probably this:

human > deer

human embryo = human fetus = human

therefore:

human embryo > deer

human fetus > deer

therefore:

it is ok to hunt deer, but not abort human fetuses or human embryos.

Just to play devils advocate:

those that hunt might question the logic of those that complain about those that hunt and yet have no problem eating meat.

People eat deer.  As far as I know, no people eat aborted fetuses.

Therefore, Frink, your comparison is invalid.

I'll give you that.

I often wonder, if I had to kill it to eat, would I be able to? I've killed chickens, ducks, and fish (ate them all) but I don't know if I could kill a cow. Their eyes are so big. Perhaps morally I should not eat beef.

Dude, cows are like the easiest to kill on your list.  They are soooooooooo slow.

Warbler's avatar
RE: Doctors not seeing kids withot vaccinations

I don't know that I could kill any animals.   Although I do eat meat,  so I can't condemn the killing of animals for consumption.

I lack the strength of character or the pallete to be a vegetarian, but have often wondered if it would be a moral choice- not based on the sanctity of animal life, but based on the human population and the appropriate use of natural resources.

Raising livestock uses tens to hundreds of times more water, energy, spacem and fuel compared to raising foodcrops.

But damn I love me a roast beef.

This has always been my problem - I love meat too much to give it up, no matter how I feel about it ethically.

Reminds me of that bumper sticker, "If God didn't want us to eat animals, why did he make them so tasty?"

what is spacem?

RE: Doctors not seeing kids withot vaccinations

In the future, spacem will be used to feed the space cattle.  TheBoost just forgot not to let the secret out yet.

Bad TheBoost!

It's what happens when you cross the space needed to raise livestock with a spaceman.
