RE: Doctors not seeing kids withot vaccinations

but what if all doctors refuse to give treatment to unvaccinated kids?  Also what right does a doctor have to refuse to treat a patient?   Under just what grounds can a doctor refuse to treat a patient.   If a doctor has the right to decide not to treat whatever patient he/she doesn't want to treat, what is to stop a doctor from not treating a patient cause he/she doesn't like the patient's skin color or religion or sexual preference?

Once again jumping to conclusions... that's not the case with the discussion at hand - or, at least, not right now.

I've heard of school districts requiring kids to get vaccinations in order to attent public school. Parents need to worry about that, too...

The title spelled "without" wrong. Fix it.

Anyway, parents should do a little more research before jumping to conclusions.

You will not. None of us will, except for a very old and dying Ziggy Stardust who will watch it through teary eyes as he remembers us all.

again I say don't blame the parents' stupidity on the kids.

The parents' stupidity is putting the lives of other people's children at risk.

not if the other children are vaccinated and/or kept separate.  Also punish the parents for putting the other kids at risk,  and not their children.

I'm pretty sure that would violate the 8th amendment.

I'm pretty sure that was a joke.

my two bits:

I believe in personal freedom. To many of us in the US it is one of our most important principles. So I am always hesitant to support something that forces someone to do something. However, when children are involved issues become a lot more complicated. On one hand, it seems like a parent should have the right to choose what they personally feel is best for their children. On the other, children can't protect themselves and parents may not always make the most intelligent choice for their children.

Finally, as harsh as it may seem, I have to say I fully support the doctor here. TheBoost had a very good example when he said that he'd be angry if his pre-vaccinated child caught pertussis from an infected child whose parents refused to get him vaccinated. Pertussis is an extremely serious upper respiratory infection and is highly contagious, and worst of all, it can have permanent debilitating effects on your child. We don't typically get pertussis or often hear about it... because thanks to modern science (wooo!) we have vaccinations against it. We don't live in the middle ages anymore, there really is no reason to leave your child unprotected and vulnerable. The doctor is just being responsible here, much like schools that require vaccination records before they'll enroll students. Unfortunately, we can't always protect children from the stupidity of their parents, but we can do everything in our power to protect the children of those parents who are doing everything they can.

is there no way to keep kids whose parents refuse allow vaccinations separated from pre-vaccinated children?    There has got to be a better solution than refusing medical aid to children.  Again we seem to continue to forget that it is not the child's fault that the parent is refusing to allow vaccinations.

I don't agree with them, but some parents fear that the vaccinations can increase the chance of autism.

This is based on research that has since been discredited.

Twister, your punctuation literally makes my head hurt. I swear you just randomly drop commas into your sentences. Don't take this the wrong way, I not trying to bash you. In fact, I appreciate that you even use punctuation at all; seems on the internet a lot of people don't even try. You're making some decent points, however, I think your posts would be much easier to follow, and your points would be much better made, if all your commas and periods were in their proper places.

^ Love to! Trying to do. Unfortunately it isn't as easy as that. The doctor who is refusing treatment to unvaccinated children seems to be making an effort to do just that.

Is Twister really a girl? I had no idea. Anyway, regardless of gender, I meant absolutely no disrespect. Someone near the top of the first page someone mentioned having a hard time following her posts, and I agree with them. However, I feel that she is making some really good posts, so it is a shame. Hopefully it won't be seen as grounds for leaving.

yeah, by risking killing the unvaccinated children by not treating them.

I'm sorry, but I will never condone the refusal to give medical treatment to children or anyone for that matter.

They are not going to die. These are private clinics refusing to treat unvaccinated kids, and I feel they have every right to. This shock might make the ignorant parents realize that they are putting their child's well being at risk and make them wake up. Meanwhile, they can just take their sick child to another clinic or to the hospital where they won't be refused care.

that's right, lets have them further clog up the ER.

Well, I don't know what else to say on the subject.  I still feel it is wrong to punish the kids for the sins of the parents.   But I'll stop now.

It's not punishing, it is making a point that really needs to be made. Further clog up the ER? If the child's life is at risk and they need immediate treatment, that is what the ER is for.
