Hello all. I am currently starting work on a re-edit of the 1949 disney film "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad", in an attempt to create a stand alone version of the "Sleepy Hollow" portion of the film. I will be utilizing the 1958 openeing credits created by Disney when they seperated the 2 shorts and started issuing them independantly from eachother, using the entire opening sequence of library shots from both shorts (removing any of the introductory narration for "Wind in the Willows" of course) to create a nice intro for the film, creating a new audio introductory narration by Bing Crosby (since the original one makes refference to the "Wind in the Willows" short that precedes it) pieced together from Halloween radio shows he did and the original intro for the film, fixing a few animation errors in the film itself, restoring original coloring to scenes where color changes were made when the film was put on DVD, and creating a new end plate for the film that reflects the 1958 opening credit style rather than the 1949 one. I will be making a full DVD with extra features and releasing it for free on the internet when the project is completed (hopefully in time for Halloween this year).
However, there are certain things I lack to complete this project. 1. The original recording Bing made of the introductory narration for the film (sans background music), 2. Any recordings of Bing making refference to Halloween or other spooky ghostly things that anyone might be able to think of, 3. A better copy of the Disney made animated documentary of Washington Irving (the only one floating around the internet has VHS damage and is of poor quality)
I would greatly appreciate anyone who might have a lead on any of these things dropping me a line here to let me know. Thanks and have yourselves a great day.

I will also be needing the help of someone interested in working on this project. I need someone who can do DVD menus, with transitions. I can do all the artwork, but I'm a complete blank when it comes to putting it all together as a DVD

Jedi KnightThis looks like a fan edit and not a preservation maybe Moth3r can move it there.

hmmm......I've posted in both...but seemingly without good reason to. Sorry about that. Is there a way to wipe out a thread on my own or do I have to authorize Moth3r to do it?
Edit: Although the title DOES say "Other Fan Projects"

Jedi KnightNo don't delete any posts or you will get in trouble.
Then again i am confused here are you trying to restore a version of this film then it is a preservation.
Or are you doing a new cut ?

I'd say it falls between the 2. The story was always paired with another short....but really its just 2 short animated films cobbled together, they even have different narrators. Disney already split them apart in the 50's, and created new title sequences for them, but they cut out the intro....so I'll be restoring the intro sequence to the film, but adding a new Bing Crosby audio intro since the old one makes no sense if the 2 shorts are not played together. So its kind of a re-edit, and kind of a restoration......hard to put it completely in one or the other category

Better Grumpy than DopeyIf you are making your own creative decisions in the selection and combination of shots that make up the finished story, then I would call it a fan edit.
However, in this case you are, primarily, attempting to restore a lost version of the film. Even though there may be some creative decisions about how best to achieve this, I would still class it as a restoration or "other fan project".

Ok, I've come up against a bit of a wall already. I bought a VHS from the 80's or 90's of the Sleepy Hollow segment of this film to obtain the credits sequence and unfortunately the quality is absolute garbage.
Back in '58 Disney seperated the 2 short films and made a new credit intro sequence for the Sleepy Hollow portion of the film, and it is THIS opening credit sequence I wish to incorporate into my restoration. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to exist anywhere save for old VHS copies released between the early 80's and the late 90's, and buying VHS copy after VHS copy looking for a better quality image is gonna be a bit of a gamble.
SO...I'm putting out a call for anyone who might have had their transfered to a more reliable form of media EARLY IN THE LIFE of their VHS tape, OR (and I dont know if this even exists) if anyone has this on laserdisc.
As far as I know, this has never been released on DVD, the only DVD that exists is the full film with the 1949 credit sequence that mentions BOTH films (and is NOT what I want). The opening credits that I am looking for look like this:

Please let me know of any leads on this. Thanks.
EDIT: Alright, this apparently DOES exist on laserdisc, now does anyone have access to a copy or am I gonna have to go out and buy one? Additionally, is there anybody out there equipped enough to be able to transfer a laserdisc movie into a digital file for me?

Heres what the cover art is supposed to look like for the laserdisc with the 1958 cut of Sleepy Hollow on it:

Ok, as well as looking for someone who either has the laserdisc or knows how to transfer one if I get one, I'm now also looking for any promotional material that may have included the map from the intro to the movie. Any and all images welcome. In fact, any images from the live action intro segment would be very helpful. Thanks.

Ok, I've purchased a laserdisc, sent it out for transfer to DVD....waiting for it in the mail. I've collected all the material I can find, but I'm still missing 2 things:
1. The Disney made Washington Irving documentary
2. Someone who knows how to make DVD menus
My menus are now going to be a little more interesting.....live action, in the same style as the movie's opening sequence. In a library with lots of old books. I'm currently in the process of having a replica of the sleepy hollow book from the film made. The menus will feature live action filmed elements of this book.....somewhat in the style of the LOTR extended version's DVD menus

Padawan LearnerWill anybody actually transfer this? It's still copyrighted so I'd be very surprised if this was professionally transferred by anybody. Being Disney I would think nobody would want to touch this - it's not exactly home movies. It sounds like an interesting project though. Every Halloween I wish there was a standalone version of this story instead of having to break out the DVD and skip to this story. I'd definitely like to see this when it is complete.

Transfer is done and now of course a possibly slightly better version has popped up on a rare dvd
EDIT: Cost me a damn fortune and I got screwed by the company that did it too.....

Padawan LearnerSorry to hear that. About you getting screwed by them I mean. So what's your plan now?

Nothing changes with the plan. Live action menu elements to be filmed this summer or fall

Sounds like a pretty cool project - very interested to see how this pans out.

I had considered opening this project up to donations, as it has already cost me a fair bit to get everything I need (and I'm nowhere near done yet), in the same way that Adywan accepts donations for his Star Wars edits, but I dont think there'd be enough interest....

If you're still looking for help in the DVD mechanics dept., I could help you out - not a pro, but I can solicit help from a buddy that is. That said, I can hold my own when it comes to this stuff - but I can get help if I get stuck.

Padawan MonkeyBTW, to let you know, I did manage to get that DVD, I'm completely swamped with work right now though, so haven't really looked at it. Might not be (much) better than the LD rip though. Will analyze more thoroughly later.
