"In the wake of Lucasarts' closure today, Raven - the developers of the thoroughly excellent Jedi Outcast - have decided to release the source code for the game. Oh, and the code for its sequel, Jedi Academy, as well."

Awesome!

Some time ago they already released multiplayer source code but not SP. I hope they released the source code for maps too.

Prequel Trilogy was supposed to be a story about a good man turning bad. In reality, it is a story about how a complete jerk (PT Anakin) turned into one of the best characters in film history (OT Vader)

Does this mean another a sequel to Zombies Ate My Neighbors will never happen now?

Don't like the closing/restructuring of Lucasfilm animation and LucasArts.  Seriously pissed about their being no OOT on blu ray.

Still until episode 7 surfaces its too early to say if Disney is now destroying Star Wars, like George Lucas did from 1994-2011.

They have handled Marvel and Pixar well.  But They wrecked Narnia and ruined both Tarzan and the Martian series by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

I think we all need to realize that SW isn't necessarily any worse off because of this. Remember those Wii and Kinect games? Remember that Han Solo signing and dancing load of shit?

I'm pretty sure that was LucasArts licensing the brand. Which is ALL they'll do now. It just depends on who pays to use the license.

Lucas Arts is the greatest.    What a loss!!!

Just the collectibles are amazing.   Check out this vintage watch from Lucas' Texas Instrument combination!

Star Wars has somewhat better recognition with the movie going public.

But on the other hand, people have a considerably higher expectations for Star Wars. :)

Well this sucks! Why close down a company that makes millions every year? It would be one thing to rename it something like "Disney & LucasArts", "Disney LucasArts" or "LucasArts Disney". But shutting it down? Looks like we will never get another Star Wars game ever.

They just shut down internal development department of LucasArts which haven't made a good game in a decade. I sure they will continue to license other developers to make Star Wars games, as they have now anyway.

Exactly. Why pay someone to make games using your property when people can pay YOU to make games using your property?

We all know who to blame :

Are you suggesting that the current economic client that the people willingly (if naively and mistakenly) voted in has caused such unfavourable conditions for the creative and industrial types that many are mysteriously disappearing, refusing to be a part of the machine that is destroyings men's souls?

Or did you mean something else?

I'm fuzzy on the last time Lucasfilm actually developed a game start to finish in house.

I hope somebody at Disney is looking over the old classics in the game catalog. I'd love to see modern versions of Ballblazer and Rescue on Fractalus if done right.

2005, Republic Commando. Last game developed internally at Lucas Arts. And, honestly, it was a fantastic game.

Let's hope that Disney will actually license things like Imperial Commando, X-Wing/TIE-Fighter, etc. rather than wondering what LA might have or not have published in another decade ...

That's fully intentional. Maybe I shoul have been more specific and said "last good game". :P

I thought the gameplay in the Force Unleashed was pretty good. It was the story line that was questionable.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

It wasn't "questionable". It sucked and on top of that it pissed on OT characters.

More info on the upcoming arcs along with a new preview of an arc that will potentially reveal who Sifo-Dias really was and possibly is.

Sadly, I watch this to see again that the quality of the show has seemed to improve a lot since the beginning of the last arc.  The many reasons I'm sad to see this show go.

This makes me happy, as it will probably contradict the Sifo-Dyas stuff created in earlier EU stuff and drive the wedge deeper into the ephemeral farce that is the SW "canon".

They write some random nobody character and make him beat both Vader and Emperor. That is beyond stupid.

When a writer lacks talent and originality, the easiest way for him to do something is to parasite on something good that was previously made. "Oh look my character is so cool he was Vader's secret apprentice and he beaten both Vader and Emperor".

^^ Isn't it the case of most of the EU? http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Sun_Crusher

Now, I know of the rule "don't say bad things about the dead ones", but I could never understand certain LucasArts decisions:

* why no STAR WARS point'n'click adventure? if Indiana Jones was good enough to create those... actually there was a more advanced project (to use engine on par with Grim Fandango), but it didn't get the green light

* why cross-licensing with stuff like Monopoly or Angry Birds?

* why weak STAR WARS Chess and no holochess (Dejarik) adaptation ever made?

* if they love to milk their license, why no official expansion for successful Dark Forces?

etc.

I saw the original theatrical release of the Old Trilogy on the big screen and I'm proud of it...
How did I accomplish that (considering my age) is my secret...

That's a rather narrow way to look at it. The story of the Force Unleashed is really about the birth of the Alliance. By the end we learn that the Emperor had actually conspired to create the Alliance to draw out the various Rebel leaders to eliminate them but Galen (the Secret Apprentice) sacrifices himself to let them escape.

He gave them hope for a better future and later the "new hope" Luke Skywalker would come along to ultimately bring it about.

Bioware making a game is interesting. Could be good. Wonder what story these games will follow?
