Did Episode III have a single location shoot?

I do believe that the entirety of Episode III was shot in green-screen studio lots. I know that originally, there was a shot of Tatooine for the end scene, but then it was changed to CGI. If so, this would be the only SW movie to have no on location work right?

The pick up shots done in Tunisia were done during post production on Clones i believe so they would not have to go back again.

As for where it was shot i thought a good deal if not all was on set in a warehouse that used to be a rolls royce factory and they used green screen to shoot Vader's masking, Vaders NOOO and Frankenstein act, Vader the emperor and tarkin overlooking the death star.

The making of book really try to get into a sense of where Lucas wanted to take the direction of the film, a lot of ideas were not used many for the better.  But changing Vader's turn from being seduced by power to saving padme from dying was moronic.

Crews were dispatched to various locales to shoot background plates for Mustafar and Kashyyk, but it does seem the main unit never left the studio.

The same as Crystal Skull.  Background plates were the new location shooting for the jungle scenes and waterfalls.  Though other sets the college, the restaurant/bar, new Mexico and Peru were real.  Or at least i think they were.

The clone troopers and pilots in Episode II and III were cgi using the actors likeness for jango and boba.  No stormtropper like suit of physical armor was made or used no actual human was shot playing those roles.

The precursor to the X-wing, Tiefighter ships were all cgi in II and III.  The stardestroyers or republic cruisers were all faked in cgi.  Well at least Hayden Vader's suit was real but he was too short to match Prowse height.

Whoa!  Tbone (finally) updated his site!

EDIT: I feel kind of dumb, but judging by the news section, I was always looking at the archive site without viewing the new one.

The ROTJ collaborative thread is a wealth of ideas, both on how to edit Return of the Jedi, as well as how to collaborate in an edit.  Emanswfan has taken leadership of the project.

A very rough edit of how the Battle of Endor could go
A very rough idea of how ROTJ could end

Rough edit based on the final script with some deviation:

So basically, with the exception of background plates shot by dispatched units, none of the film was done in anything but a green-screen warehouse. I really hope the new trilogy takes us to actual places. You can really tell when actors are freezing their asses off in Norway or sweltering under the Tunisian sun.

Well that's not true. It's true they never made any clone armor and their bodies were completely CG, but in ROTS when they had their helmets off it was Temeura's real head. I remember being disappointed in the theater at how poorly those shots were composited.

The radio controlled R2 Units (like the K9 units on Doctor Who) were notorious blooper reel material, so while it may look crap I can see the financial reasoning behind using CGI as much as possible from a cheapskate perspective but from an artistic perspective it was very dumb.

The OT era radio controlled R2 units sure but this generation's? Are there any real reports about that? The stuff the Artoo Builders club can build nowadays is pretty reliable and nuts.

The actors never stepped outside a soundstage for ROTS, so far as I know. Even if they did shoot outside, it was still probably on a backlot.

McCallum bragged about how they went to more separate locations around the world for RotS than on any previous Star Wars movie, but these were entirely for purposes of getting live-action effects plates. For example, a crew was sent to Sicily when word got out that Mt. Etna was erupting. They got some footage (from a distance, of course) and used it to help create Mustafar. Some shots from Switzerland were used to realize Alderaan while remote locales in China and Thailand formed the basis for Kashyyyk. The Tunisia plates for the Lars Homestead were filmed while they were there for AotC. I'm not sure if they went back to Italy and/or Spain for that short scene on Naboo.

The locations crews for the various shoots are all listed in the end credits of RotS.

Is it fair to say then, that ROTS was an animated film with a few live actor's faces peppered in? I mean when you have a guy holding a prop helmet, and then post-production even changes that prop to another helmet...

It is actually quite amazing that the film even turned out as good as it is. I can't imagine actors having to act in the very "inspiring" empty room.

Prequel Trilogy was supposed to be a story about a good man turning bad. In reality, it is a story about how a complete jerk (PT Anakin) turned into one of the best characters in film history (OT Vader)

People always say that and yet some have been getting along just fine for centuries....

There's a single close up shot of Obi-wan climbing out of a pool of water before it transitions to a master composite shot. So it's possible that, if nothing else, that could've been a complete on-set shoot.

Being asked to play your emotional scene opposite a tennis ball on a stick is another matter. ;)

That and George Lucas altering the script on the day leaving you with maybe three minutes rehearsal time.

Theatre acting (at least to me) is very different than that in the film. I don't know how to put it... well in film the aim of the acting is to make it look like they are not acting while in theatre they do it in a way that it is extremely obvious that they are acting.

Wasn't Anakin falling to the dark side by wanting to save Padme a last-minute script change?  (in the original script he just wanted power).
