Rise of The Apes?  RISE OF THE APES?   I haven't heard about this.  Is this a sequel to the 2001 remake?

It sounds like a completely different project.

Interesting cast and crew but I'm still skeptical.

Oh man, I hadn't heard of it either. Looks like it is another "re-imagining" made to stand on its own apart from the horribly failed Burton defecation. Typical modern Hollywood, "It was popular once, dammit! We just have to keep trying until we find the right combination so we can sell it again!"

I love The Planet of the Apes, and even enjoy the goofy sequels and the tv show. It was a cool idea when the book was published and later when the original film was made, but it has been done before and comes off as really silly these days. After spending years being a POTA apologist and admitting I enjoy it to the sneers of those who think it is really lame, even I was embarrassed while watching the Burton version. It was that ridiculous and lousy of a film.

Sounds like this upcoming Rise of the Apes basically retells the story of Conquest for the Planet of the Apes. The concept was pretty unique back in its day, and the ape makeup was cutting edge which was a major part of the franchises overall appeal and popularity. No one is going to be awed by talking CG monkeys. I predict a total flop, but unfortunately enough people will see it that, as per usual, they will more than make back the money it cost to make it, wholly justifying more mass defecation and reuse of ideas.

I'm patiently awaiting the trailer.

Trivia: It's the first Planet of the Apes film to not feature the word "Planet".

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

It wouldn't make sense Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes implies the whole planet goes or gets up.

Rise Of The Apes does however sound like people are going to make fun of them (as in 'take the').

ZOMG Warb did a GIF attack! (colour me shocked and awed).

yeah besides, how can you make a good Planet Of The Apes movie without Roddy McDowall?

My favorite is Beneath The Planet Of The Apes and he only appears in a few seconds of stock footage in that one.

Beneath is your favourite?  Is there something wrong with you? (1 and 3 are my faves... blast away!)

Also, Anchorhead, recommend thread title be changed to: (Dark Knight/Apes) Rise(s)

Upside crucified apes, bleeding statues, ugly mutants singing "All things bright and beautiful' to a nuclear bomb god, brutal violence, in your face social commentary and the bleakest ending ever.

What's not to love?

Even Heston's contractual obligation performance rips shreds off of most of the so called acting in the big draw action flicks kicking around for the last few decades.

2 and 4 are my faves.

I like 1 and 3 best from a serious standpoint, if I were to only own two Apes films, those would be the two without question. Or if I were introducing a non-initiate to the series, those would be the two I'd show them. From the goofy/campy/ridiculous standpoint, I do enjoy Beneath and Conquest, but don't take them seriously. Battle for I could live without ever seeing again, even the tv series is considerably better than it.

There is a fair amount of goofy campy nonsense in the whole series.

If anything 1 and 3 great as they are even goofier and more camp than the rest (three wise monkeys, bubble bath for Zira etc).

Which is fine by me because I like that sort of thing but 2 and 4 are just so wonderfully depressing.

I prefer the original ending of Conquest though (the shoe-horned in dialogue is pretty but it cuts the nads off the beast).

If only they could MIX Nolen's gritty realistic Batman with an uprising of angry monkeys. What a movie that would be.

Did you ever see the "long" version of Battle?  It was mildly improved in my opinion.

All of this reminds me... I never finished the animated series.  I bought it a couple years back and maybe watched 2 episodes.

Regarding Apes;  1968 original only for me.  However, I think the reveal in Escape is a fantastic scene. "Gentlemen, welcome to the United States Of....."

Escape is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me.  I'll watch it if I happen to stumble across it on cable.

Regarding the Batman title; I'm with Boost on this one.  Rise has been worn out.  I'm surprised they weren't more inventive. Truth be told,  I have that same feeling about Catwoman & Bane.  But we'll see.  Nolan may surprise me and pull one out of a hat.

Didn't like the animated series at all. Yeah, I've seen the long version of Battle, I actually am not sure I have ever seen the shorter version.

Best thing about Beneath was Linda Harrison... ah Nova... the one thing all the later sequels sadly lacked.

As for the Batman title "Rise", I too agree, way worn out and cliche. But so was "Begins".

I'm just shocked.  Simply Shocked!

Escape is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me.  I'll watch it if I happen to stumble across it on cable.

It was actually introduced to me, by my father, as something of a "spoof", and not an actual full fledged member of the series.  It is funnier than the other films (right up until the happy ending!) but not "spoof wacky", if you know what I mean...  Either he didn't know, or he didn't tell me, but I was shocked a few years later to find that there was a #4 and a #5.  I thought 1 and 2 were it with a "what if?/non-continuity" Escape movie.  For Fun.

Man, I was so excited for the Burton film.  I'm still mad about that.  :(

Still hoping for the title to change.

He doesn't look like your average movie-star+personal trainer muscle-man. Not Brad Pitt in Troy or Christian Bale as Batman.

He looks like he could kill me.

It was a necessary look for the character he was playing.
