THC-1138 meets TK-420SE'97 vs. SE'97
bigger
Left is LD preservation by DarkSvn, right is reivaX digital broadcast.
Nevermind the non-square pixel aspect ratio, the DTS logo are different!
Does it mean the French dub is 2.0 ?
I guess that could explain it
However, in practice you must take into account the "fuckwit factor". Just talk to Darth Mallwalker...

^ Please clarify what you mean by French dub 2.0? Are there two SE mixes in French or are you considering the SE as 2.0.
There is also the context of the whole SE credits existing in two versions, the DTS Logo is one aspect of the complete redo.
Star Wars Special Edition Credits Variations
DTS Sound : DarkSvn LD, G'Kar, 5 Star, JFSE
DTS Stereo : ReivaX, TB Broadcast, Flunk
Have converted the last one from each list into a pic:

http://fd.noneinc.com/Credits/SWSECredits-Flunk.jpg
JFSE ......................................... Flunk

Identifying when the DTS logo change occurred will probably clue us in when this occurred. Had always linked the SE credits as a laserdisc thing, but seeing them show up in the G'Kar set, which I thought was broadcast...

The credits on G'Kar seems to be spliced in from a Laserdisc source, the 2004 DVD transfer includes the same '97 credits with the DTS Stereo logo. I suspect it's just a different logo for the same thing.
We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

THC-1138 meets TK-420When I wrote 2.0 I meant good old-fashioned stereo. Two channels only L&R, no center channel, no surrounds, no subwoofer track

Hummm, the 'Richard L. Anderson' and 'Kathryn Farrar' added in the SE later variation, are not in the 2011 set where they showed up before. But haven't done a complete check, maybe they just got moved...
Anderson: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0027328/
Farrar: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0268133/
Maybe all these uncredited SW people would make for a nice SaveStarWars article.

This space for rentThe 1997 laserdisc credits were video-generated. The credits on the 1997 digital broadcasts and the 2004/2011 DVD/Blu-ray releases are the ones that appeared on the SE theatrical prints. (The end credits were not changed for any of the films in 2004; instead, the new credits appeared as a supplement on the fourth bonus disc.)
I'm not sure why they altered the credits for ANH; was it to add those names, or just to make the credits easier to read?
I do know that at least the opening "fade in/fade out" sections of the end credits of ESB (and possibly ROTJ) were also video-generated on VHS/LD, because they forgot to add James Earl Jones to the SE credits the first time. (Consequently, Jones' credit was absent again in 2004.) The scrolling credits for Empire and Jedi were still the theatrical versions, at least as I remember it; I recall the ESB credit roll being almost illegible on the widescreen VHS.

The Interweb is a Series of TubesWould anyone be interested in a high-quality version of the 1977 opening day credits? Does one already exist?

This thread is not about quality. I'm willing to turn any preservation project's credits into a pic. We know of the different opening day credits from Moth3r's effort and it was confirmed in the 16mm preservation by Puggo. Was going to do the PS78, but you've been improving the project, so have been waiting for that to become public.

I'm sorry for the PS78 delay. I can only progress when I have 3-4+ hours (due to processing time and the like) to work on it and, lately, haven't had that kind of time available. Filling the ~1 hour per night with little one-offs (e.g., the smear-free infamous speeder scene shot) keeps me interested.
This thread seemed like the appropriate place to ask such a question :-(

There's no reason to be sorry, I was not criticising, projects happen at their own speed.

It is the right place but there was also an answer. In the first post, with visual proof in the third, and in the first post your project is mentioned.
You are not the first person to feel overwhelmed by their projects, at least two others round these parts are publicly expressing their desire to step out for a bit. If you need to, do so. It's better to enjoy the hobby then turn it into a burden. Don't need to tell anyone, just go do something else you'd like to do. This place is everyone's free time.

Oh, I read those posts, but I meant something entirely different, and should have given more detail.
By high-quality, I meant (for example) going through PuggoGrande's credits and removing the barrel distortion, crushing the blacks, doing noise reduction (and other cleanup), color correcting, etc. That is, making a version of the 1977 opening day credits that would fit right in with something like DJ & You_Too's project.

I'm not overwhelmed and, if I were, I most certainly would not think I'm the first person to feel that way.
Edit: You're not the first person to bring up the topic of feeling overwhelmed (or burnt-out) to me around here. What am I saying or doing to give (some) people that impression?

Posting about their personal time expenditures can be construed as a sign. Maybe probably it's just me being hyper-sensitive.

Then this is probably not the thread to get those people's attention. But you never know who lurks...
As there are only three sources for these credits and less information, there is a disconnect between the preservation projects and these credits. The logic tends to follow yes we want original opening day/year credits but the version most commonly seen. (as the case probably is that both were shown opening day) We don't have the information to prove one way or the other which of these credits showed up most, so as there is no insertable version into the high def projects currently underway, they sit over here for discussion. But as the foreign language crawls get created in a higher quality form, the desire for these credits to also be around for projects attempting multi-stream play back will increase.

That makes sense. I do appreciate your concern and advice, of course. I tend to be rather explicit, so trust me: if I'm burnt-out, I'll come out and say it.
(For the record: I posted about my personal time expenditure to give me a crutch to lean on for my explanation of why the final PS78 release is so delayed.)

Well, I was using their project as an example. I don't know who'd be interested in it, so I asked here.

Assuming these are the ones TServo2049 was referring to a few posts back. We'll see if these people make future releases. They had a significant contribution to the look of the films post-2004.

None, noticed that your list in the first post is missing the Catnap telecine, it does contain the early credit roll despite what I mentioned earlier.

I think this is a great idea AntcuFaalb, and something that should be attempted seriously along with the X-Wing composite which is probably connected to this. At the moment very few sources have surfaced with these opening day credits, the Puggo Grande source is obviously in the highest quality of these despite being severely cropped. Puggo have stated that he might do a 2nd transfer of his print at a later point. So it might be a good idea to bring this up to him. Maybe treat the credits separately to get the best results out of it...
These '77 print variations may be minor, trivial and uninteresting to most people but I doubt we will see them officially preserved in the nearest future so I like the idea.
