RE: Conan The Barbarian Theatrical Netflix HD (Can anyone capture this?)

Hi Everyone,

Is there anyone here who has the capabilities to capture a Netflix streamed HD broadcast of Conan The Barbarian? I just found out it is the Theatrical version, and this version was not released on the recently released Blu-ray, in any Country, the only thing I would need to know first though is it in its correct aspect ratio, a few years ago it was broadcast on Universal HD and the aspect ratio was messed up, it was 1.85:1, Thanks.

Here's to hoping it has original 1.0 mono track. I'll look online.

What format do they stream in?  Is it some flavor of flash player like Hulu and such?

It uses the Microsoft Silverlight plugin, if that means anything...

It's the right aspect ratio, it looks very good and I LOVE that ending! Would it have killed them to have both on the disc?!

Hmm.  I was going to suggest something like GetFLV, but who the heck uses Silverlight?  I'm pretty sure GetFLV wouldn't work.

What about Fraps?

What about plugging a 360 into a capture card?

To help the analysis further, take a look at these close ups of Obi-Wan's beard -- STENDEC

I don't think getflv or some other ordinary streaming video downloader is up for the job.

Since Netflix uses Silverlight for its streams, you need something that is able to handle protected streams.

Dunno for sure if there are any good or working ways to download streaming movies from netflix, but you can go with a screen capture program to get that movie you want.

There's some Audials app that as far as I know works to screen capture and save Netflix streaming videos and shows to the hdd. I don't use Netflix, but I have used the app to capture streaming videos and movies from other streaming sources and got me good quality files.

Dunno, maybe it also works for you.

I would do it if I knew how. Has anyone tried this?

Actually, it looks like GetFLV might work on Silverlight content.

You can try the demo version first at GetFLV.net and see if it'll help.

RE: Conan The Barbarian Theatrical Reconstruction BD25 Project.

If you catch a bit german try http://www.schnittberichte.com/schnittbericht.php?ID=121 with a detailed cutting report whats missing in the theatrical and the differences at the ending...

The Blu-ray timing reminds me of the Star Trek II BD. Same cool, desaturated look (but like Trek II, the grain structure is intact).

Not sure which is more accurate either; the theatrical looks more "right" to my eyes, but that's just me.

On that I cannot help, sorry :(

But I also favor the Theatrical Version colorisation, so your project will not be only a recreation of the cut, but of the look and feel, also.

I don't know anything about color correction. Adywan, Harmy and Lee Thorogood all utilized it in their projects, maybe they can help you out.

Which one looks closer to the previous LD and DVD releases of the theatrical cut?
