I watched the sample and it certainly seems right to me. You might want to specify in the title "american theatrical version" it's my understanding (people  correct me on this) that other countries always had the blu-ray ending with the princess.

dj,

It's pretty straightforward - basically it's just which part of the image the color balance adjustment will affect - i.e. the dark bits, most of the image, or the very bright bits.

You may find it easier to work with the RGB curves - set the view to 'RGB Parade' - and then flip backwards and forwards between the two things you are trying to match - start off by getting the bottom of the  of R,G and B in the same place in both shots (only adjust one of them) - then adjust so that the tops of the graph match. Once you've done that you should be pretty close.

Use the 'master' curve to add or remove contrast by making the middle curve up or down.

Goodluck.

Okay - I just discovered after effects doesn't have RGB waterfalls (but Premier does - how odd). Doing it using the curves adjusted by eye.

Red curve was pretty flat.

Possibly needs a touch more red in the shadows - but hopefully you get the idea.

Looks good, but I still prefer the Netflix theatrical timing to the Blu. Is there any way you could also try a curve to match the BD to the theatrical instead of vice-versa? DJ has said before that he'd really like to be able to match the Blu-ray to the theatrical - is that still your opinion, DJ?

Dunno if it's any real evidence, but the timing in the original trailers is closer to the top images than the bottom.

Thanks DigruntledFan, but I have AE not Premier, and I did want to go the other way and make the BD the same as the Netflix HD, but I do not want to process the whole BD video, and what if the settings make other scenes wrong, so to get this done and start on the LD Digital PCM audio sync job I wanted to get the video done as fast as I can, and for me, I still like how the BD looks to, I want to finish this up so I can finish up the SW BD Set.

Understood, the BD does look good, I have the same opinion of it as Star Trek II, the timing may not be accurate to the original timing from '82, but it looks fine in its own right, it's not a mess like a certain trilogy...

I know its a lot of work, but my vote is for bringing the color back to the Theatrical version.  Just look at those beautiful colors!  You can tell the theatrical version is what was originally intended, as it looks more like a Frazetta painting than the steely blues of the BR version.

Keep up the good work!

Thank you so much dark_jedi, what you said means a lot.

Now it's going to be very interesting to hear what everyone else thinks about it!

... Maybe wait for you 2nd isolated score then.

Don't worry, that's official. Or they would really mess with their own label's site, what I don't believe. Just no release date yet.

Btw, if it's good as expected it could easily replace your first isolated score. True the releases are most enjoyable but the sound quality is a bit dated.

Anyway, good luck with it !

So, unbelievably excited about this reconstruction! Especially the color correction.

Kudos to Netflix for streaming the theatrical in HD but who knows how long that will be available. Finding the theatrical on oop DVD was even a chore. And as best I can tell, it is from the same master as my old LD.

The blu-ray color looks nice too. Your hard work will definitely not go unnoticed!

I'm listening to the Prague re-recording now and it's going to be fun seeing it alongside picture.

Conan is less of a movie and more of a blueprint for living according to John Milius. :-)

The OOP DVD is also letterboxed, it isn't even anamorphic, but who needs the old DVD now when we have this, and yes, if it wasn't for Netflix HD streaming the HD version of the Theatrical Cut this project would have never been.

Rutracker seems to have another HD broadcast of the theatrical but it's zoomed in to 16:9, so it's great that netflix had the anamorphic original. I'm not 100% sure it's the theatrical on rutracker but the runtime listed is shorter than the blu-ray.

dark_jedi.  Is there any chance this can be converted to a < 8gb AVCHD which I could be burned onto a dual layer DVD?
