FE<3OTI'm working on a preservation of a cartoon that was originally release in flv format (which was later pulled and then re-released in a censored format).
I've demuxed the flv into avi/mp3 format, and I'm now trying to do some clean up in virtualdub.
Here is what they look like right now:

I have this file loaded into virtualdub with some filters suggested by throwgncpr.

My first question is, can anyone make any recommendations for other filters they have tried and had success with?
My second question is, has anyone used MSU Cartoon restore? I can't seem to get it to load without crashing virtualdub.
Thanks for any help.
- You may have to right-click and view image to see the vdub filters I have added.

I have, and I gotta say, when Vdub doesn't crash and with the right settings, it gives brilliant results.
I don't know what causes the program to crash though. Try to change any setting you can think of that might cause it (frame size, fps, colorspace...)
... And they had 'The Empire Strikes Back', the fifth of the four Star Wars films. He is fucking with us numerically, isn't he! "Children, count up to ten." "Four, five, six, one, two, three, ten". No, it goes, four, five, six, one, two, three… No, it goes: four, five, six. One... Two and three have not been made." "Two and three have not been made! What should they be?" "What should they be? We do not know. All we know is that there will be a big floppy character in it that goes, squawk squawk squawk... who needs a punch up the bracket!"

Disco Stu likes Disco music!Well, I'm using the latest one, the last time I tried was last week and it did work. Did you try the filter on another file? If it doesn't crash, that may mean Cartoon Restore doesn't like that one file you're trying to restore for some reason (compression, colorspace etc).
You could try disabling any other filters in the chain, if you're using more. That's another way to check what's causing the program to crash.

FE<3OTYeah, i tried disabling all the other filters, but it still crashed. I'll look into your other suggestion. Thanks!

Avisynth has many more filters and options imo. If you have avspmod you can even preview what you are doing through a GUI interface. As far as filters go, I think I would deblock it, then use something like unsharpmask to sharpen it followed by a blur. Maybe anti-alias it as well.
Luke threw twice....maybe.

Cool thanks, althor1138. I'll try those.
