There is supposedly 1,051 users currently signed up for the forum. Where are they all? There's a lot of people in this forum, but I seriously doubt there's that many posting.

Plus you have to take into account all the one-time posters whose messages were deleted before the Great Post Purge of November '03.

I think a lot of people sign up as soon as they sign the petition thinking that they will post on the forums but then just decide against it for whatever reason. Jay has links to join the forum all over the place so it's pretty easy to do. Whether or not a person remains committed to the idea is something else altogether.

That was the Great Post Purge of November 2003. Yes, it was that long ago. He may still have to do it again. Who knows.

Yes, but I belive he meant that every posts and threads prior to november 2003 were deleted, including the infamous word association thread...

Its intimidating that you guys all know eachother and have built repoirs. I mean, the uninitiated may not want to venture opinions that frequently. Im trying to find a little niche on the forum.

Oddly some people dont seem to be disuaded - like the suddenly appearing GL fanboys, names witheld - they are posting all over the damn place.
Anyways, I think its important to stick around. Even though the movies released yesterday were not the OT, there is still hope...as silly as it might seem in the face of GL's absolute idiocy.

Yes! that's the way to look at it! I'm sure to the colonists, defeating the British Empire looked like an impossible task. But, did they give up? NO! They kept fighting, and won their freedom. I'll admit, it's refreshing to see such an unmoderated forum. Before I joined, I enjoyed watching threads go wildly OT. It does make things feel more open and friendly. Odd forum we have here. Definitely a good thing to be sure.

That it is. But don't go thinking that Jay doesn't moderate. He prefers to let us work out our problems, but he will jump in if things get too far out of hand. He's locked out threads and banished one or two people in the past (just for cool off periods; they've been welcomed back later on). He's even changed my user title when I insulted him (I became "Bantha Fodder"). That last one was a joke, of course. I actually enjoyed my days as Bantha Fodder. I miss them.
