I'll probably watch Thumbtanic.  It's... definitive.

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

"Yeah, well, George says a lot of things..." a young 1997 xhonzi on RASSM

"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.

RE: Cameron revises one shot for 3D release of Titanic

I saw Titanic in 3D today and dude was it awesome!

First, the 3D conversion was flawless; 99% of the time it seriously looked like it was shot in 3D and even though it didn't have any of the stuff-happening-right-in-front-of-your-face effects that I enjoy so much, for the first time in my life, I didn't even miss them - here, for me, the 3D did exactly what it's supposed to do according to the advocates of the behind-the-screen 3D: it made it a more immersive experience - and yet I was consciously aware that I'm watching 3D throughout the whole of over 3 hours (something that is very desirable, since you're paying the extra money for the 3D). The transfer was pretty great too; I heard Cameron saying somewhere that they did some grain removal but he said the same thing about the Aliens BD transfer and it was plenty grainy. I definitely saw no typical signs of DVNR, like waxiness or smearing.

Second, the movie itself lost none of it's charm and epicness for me (and had some extra added on top by the 3D). I saw Titanic more times than I care to admit, in the cinema, on VHS, on TV, on DVD and in HD and the 194 minutes still just flew by in a blur of awesomeness. Sure, it's a cheesy love-story and it's a bit melodramatic from time to time but it is so masterfully executed that it simply makes me forget all that and enjoy the ride. It was simply a beautiful cinematic experience; on several occasions, I found myself smiling so wide that the corners of my mouth were tickling my ears - and not because it was funny but out of sheer enjoyment. It was also the first time I shed a few tears watching Titanic - but it wasn't when Leonardo died, they weren't sad tears - it was in the final moments of the ship sinking and they were tears of joy, because what was happening on (and behind) the screen in front of me was so awesomely epic and such a beautiful piece of film-making, it got me to a state of pure movie enjoyment.

Now this is what I call a movie-going experience. Thank you Mr. Cameron, I forgive you for Avatar now :-)

Admit it: You just like seeing Kate Winslet's boobs in 3D. ;-)

I'm not going to deny that that was a part of it. Kate Winslet's absolutely gorgeous in this movie.

Is there a different thread where I can read about why you didn't like Avatar?

People attempting to be funny, or could they actually be this clueless?

They killed Leonardo DiCaprio just to make a stupid action romance film?

That's just so bad.

It is hysterical this nonsense about the Titanic anniversary (though I'm sure Cameron is pleased).

The Spirit Of Free Enterprise disaster was in living memory and hardly anyone mentions that in this country.

The Dona Paz disaster was too.

How about raising awareness and money for the living relatives of those disasters instead of making Cameron even more rich by giving free publicity to his mediocre film?

Don't be bitter, dude ;-)

People are too f*cking sensitive about these things. Sure, it was a disaster and 1500 people died in the middle of Atlantic one hundred years ago. But so what? Approximately one hundred times that many people died in the world yesterday.

I guess this is the best place for this

For 1514 people killed due to stupidity, carelessness, and arrogance 100 years ago today:

http://www.cyberhymnal.org/mid/p/r/o/propior_Deo.mid   (this is about the best version of this arrangement I could find)

(I posted three versions of this song because is not known which arrangement was used, and I wished to make sure I posted the correct one)

we can do both.   But I don't think it is possible to do that for the Titanic anymore.   I think all of the survivors have passed away.   Also I don't believe that Cameron's film is all that bad.  Also one can watch one of the movie versions if one doesn't like Cameron's film.   I recommend "A Night To Remember".

I am surprised more isn't made about the Dona Paz disaster.   I'm not sure I've ever heard about it until Bingowings mentioned it.   More should be made of it.  I just did a little research, more than 4300 people died in the disaster.  Wow. Very sad.

The Spirit of Free Enterprise had a death toll of about 193 people, much less than Titanic(but still tragic).   Perhaps that is why not as much is made about it.

I can't really explain why so much more is made about the Titanic.   I guess the story just has a way of fascinating people.   Maybe it has to do with how different the outcome would have been if just one of many things had been done differently.    I know the fascination with Titanic has more to do than just Cameron's film.   Multiple movies had been done before Cameron's film.   Countless books were written well before Cameron's film came out.   Countless documentaries were done on the disaster before Cameron's film came out.   I myself knew much about the history of Titanic and was interested in it before Cameron's film came out.    This is the 100th anniversary of  Titanic, not Cameron's film.
