Part of me thinks that is what this could maybe be, but that is because I am a stupid fool. But what could it be about the BD that we didn't already know? We know there will be new docs and deleted scenes. Are they going to announce it has new changes to the films? I don't think they are modifying them in any significant way, at least picture wise. This is intriguing whatever it is. They might just be announcing the date and MSRP, who knows.

The link, though, with the official advertisment makes it in connection with the BD, so I don't really buy into the game theory.

Can someone who can simply and eloquently explain film resolution respond to this ignorant dude at the site of the original link?

BTW, I think the significance of describing the announcement as "most impressive" is nothing other than using a quote from the films in order to be "clever".

As much as reading that gave me a headache I am actually kind of curious where he got that understanding from. Is there some young earth creationism school of thought for home video now or something?

Oh dear. So that would be why the ignorant masses don't like film grain and DNR is overused on films released pre-2002 when George Lucas invented HD camera's for use on AOTC.

No words exist to explain just how wrong this ignorant "film buff" is!

As for the announcement, I'd be very surprised if it isn't anything to do with the Blu-ray or 3D releases.

Let's just hope it's not to reveal that Star Wars will be a Panasonic exclusive for the next 2 years!

You didn't know... but the 1997 Special Edition was actually a higher resolution shot for shot remake with noise enhancing algorithmic equazional equalization THX certified digital-photo-chemical audio enhancements.  No just on the pixel level but the quantum micro-pixel level.  They actually manipulated the quarks in 'The Star Wars' in the 3 Mile Inlet Collider.  I heard, this is all speculative, but they projected the quarks from the 70mm through the 35mm digital enhancements to create this new intra-poso-neg 3Mega 4High 5Def, which is supposedly a whoapping (yes whoapping) 42bX97.3b pixel in quad dimensions.  The MMO will be out last tuesday.

This is exactly how I read that marketing statement too, and reckon it's going to mainly be a fanfare to announce the official release date for the blu-rays.  With perhaps some detail on some of the extras being mentioned too.

I doubt there'll be any mention of any 3D blu-ray versions at this point, until the cinema releases are done with first...and at that point, I wouldn't be surprised if some manufacturer or other was indeed then given a 'limited monopoly' over them for a while (just as Panasonic has with 'Avatar' for the time being), thus delaying it from being available to everyone else who buys the 'wrong' 3D TV from other manufacturers... 

Just for the record, I'm highly impressed with Panasonic's 3D TV range, even if I don't like their exclusive control over 'Avatar's 3D blu-ray for anyone else.

The notion of total 'digital removal' of original grain becoming a 'preferred' look by some is bad enough...but I'm gonna call it a day if someone ever seriously demands somewhere that every future blu-ray should have the current over-used trend for 'tinted' blue/'teal'/'orangy' hues too!  ;)

Hopefully they're at least re-redoing the crappy CGI they shoehorned into the OT.

I'm more scared of this announcement than excited. It's probably something like "we found out that doing the 3D was super easy, so the set will be twice as much as you expect and you have to buy a Panasonic 3D TV to get then until 2015! Oh, and it comes with the original versions. So you can get your wish for around $4000!"

My uncle's 3D television came with a 3D Blu-Ray of Avatar bundled with it (apparently not for sale separate from the television).

It would seem a bit odd to put out even a limited release of 3D Blu-Ray sets before a theatrical 3D run but these are crazy times.

Maybe it's a HD 3D sampler disc to promote the television sets and get everyone primed for the theatrical run.
