Hi!
I came here to ask for help. My home DVD player seems not to recognise AVCHD format, so, I was looking for some software to convert it to something else, preserving two audio tracks and subtitles...
It was not easy, but I found AVStoDVD and ConvertXtoDVD. Both of them are excelent, they convert it to either PAL or NTSC, but the video loses resolution, it goes from 1280x720 to 729x576.
Is it possible to burn it in other way that it is not AVCHD, to check if my DVD player recognises it? I understand that 1280x720 can be passed as HQ, instead of HD, but I don't know of similar software to do this. Thanks a lot in advance!

There is no DVD player that is compatible with AVCHD; only BD players could be compatible.

Did you mean 720x576 (as 1280x720 in the title)? It's not possible for a DVD player to play a format with HD resolution; the highest possible resolutions that a DVD player could handle are 720x576 PAL or 720x480 NTSC.

No, I'm sorry. The only solutions are to play the AVCHD disc on your computer, or to buy a BD player that is AVCHD compliant, or to use a Playstation 3...

Better Grumpy than DopeyThey are very rare, but I have heard that some upscaling DVD players with HDMI output were able to play "higher resolution" MPEG4 ASP (i.e. Xvid) in AVI. But most player chipsets can only manage up to 720 x 480/576.
One of our TVs is able to play such files from a USB stick, but cannot decode AVC (i.e. x264) video.
What is your DVD player make/model and does it have an HDMI output?

Hi! Sorry for taking so long... my model is: Samsung DVD-SH893. It looks like it could play Harmy's with a better resolution, just not the AVCHD 1280x720.
My DVD player specifications are:
Maximum resolution: 576i/576p/720p/1080i/1080p
Video playing formats: MPEG2/MPEG4/DIVX (DIVX3,1-DIVX6)/AUDIO CD/JPEG
Do you think this better resolution is worth? and how could I author and burn a proper DVD that could be read? I want some audios and subtitles, is Handbracke ok?

Laserdisc MasterSorry, your DVD recorder could only UPSCALE standard definition discs, but could not read a disc with more than standard resolution...
If you could afford it, my hint is to buy a cheap BD player, AVCHD compatible of course - or at least a very good used one!

Using DivX disc
- Disc : CD-R/-RW, DVD-RAM/±RW/±R, HDD, USB
- Video File with following extensions can be played. : .avi, .divx, .AVI, .DIVX
- DivX Video (Codec) Format : DivX 3.11 DivX 4.x DivX 5.x (without QPEL and GMC)
- DivX Audio (Codec) Format : MP3, MPEG1 Audio Layer 2, LPCM, AC3, DTS
- Supported subtitle file formats: .smi, .srt, .sub, .psb, .txt, .ass
- Each folder can have up to 500 items including files and sub folders.
- You cannot play back the disc that is larger than a 720 x 576 pixel resolution
