Jedi MasterGreat idea! My advice - leave it @44.1Khz, 16 bit Stereo. Any conversion may degrade the quality
Here is my Star Wars Audio colletction. May be useful for you:

Here is my Star Wars Audio colletction (when my server is online). May be useful for you:
- Folders: http://94.26.14.167:8080/Star_Wars_Music/
- List with cover art: http://94.26.14.167:8080/Star_Wars_Music/MP3List.html
Thanks for that. I'll take a look!
As for what you said about conversion degrading the quality, it wouldn't be converted again from 44.1 but rather from the source files, so that's a non issue. I'm just wondering which is best :-)

Hey doubleofive. As I just said in my updated 1st post, I used to have all the sounds from JK2, but don't anymore after wiping my hard drive. I only have the dialogue now, no sound effects.
If you have every single sound already ripped, that'd be really useful!

Can any audio/editing gurus tell me if it's worthwhile redoing them at 48Khz, 24 bit?
The higher the bit rate the better I always say! But then I have no idea what I'm talking about so. =P

Magister Pontifex MaximusIt might be better to treat this as a preservation project in the same way one might for documentary footage or soundtrack mixes etc.
If all the files were sent to one person (presumably Brash) and when the the archive is sufficiently comprehensive it's chapters could be released as a series of disc images (which people could download from the usually places and design covers and labels for etc).
That way the links don't get anyone into trouble and will not be subject to the whim of a single file sharing site owner.

That would be excellent, as I've never owned Galaxies. If you could upload them and PM me the link that'd be totally wizard :-p

That is an excellent idea Bingowings. I'd never actually thought that they might be interested in hosting it on that site.
Look into this, I will!

Magister Pontifex MaximusI don't think they would but it could be passed around like soundtrack preservations and the like are.
They are individual sound elements and you are preserving them as a separate archive so the parallel between the two seems obvious to me.

Magister Pontifex MaximusI couldn't for a long while either but then they came back which is one of the reasons I suggested putting the final result out as a series of disc images.

What quality are the source files? The soundboards sound sourced from a parsed 5.1 ac3 off the DVD. So a 48 khz file would be better if they weren't down-sampled for the internet in the first place, but 24-bit isn't necessary at all. I say keep delivering as you are as CD quality .wav files (unless you have reason to up the sampling quality to 48). They're uncompressed and easily imported and utilized in all editing applications.
BTW, thanks for this. I've downloaded a bunch and am currently using them in a "fan-film-ish" project. I'll keep following the thread as you update it!

What is it with Ricks?Well the soundboards started as the mp3s rippable off the website which is unfortunately the best we have so far (I'm no audiophile though. They sound totally fine to me).
The sounds from the book were recorded with a male to male audio cable, one end in the sound module, the other in the 'line-in' jack of my mac. So that's as raw as you're gonna get without opening up the module, working out what kind of flash memory it uses and doing some hacking/soldering. And even then, it might not be a standard audio format, but something specific for the hardware.
The reason I've suggested 48khz 24 bit is that it's apparently preferred for a Final Cut Pro project (and one can assume in other programs too). It accepts 44.1khz, 16 bit of course, so I don't know what the benefits are in practice.

What is it with Ricks?Well I've found something fairly interesting on a forum. Someone sharing a small selection of sounds that have supposedly come direct from Ben Burtt. He seemed quite vehement that Burtt had sent him these personally, and that people should keep it "on the down low" just in case of any backlash (though Burtt didn't personally suggest there might be such issues)
Another member pointed out that some of the files had exactly the same amount of used sounds as the corresponding archive on the official soundboards, and also exactly the same order. He also pointed out that some of the sounds are the same that can be ripped from various computer games.
Regardless of this, the guy is adamant they're from Ben Burtt
I'm a bit skeptical, however some of these sounds I don't recall hearing anywhere else before. But I could be wrong! I'm just wondering should I upload it on its own, or as part of a themed archive

The Last StarfighterNo harm in uploading them I say. If you want to keep them separate that's cool but I don't think it's strictly necessary. I doubt anyone is too concerned over where their sounds come from, just that they work in the projects they're doing.

Researcher, SWGANHI'll put those SWG sounds together over the weekend. There are over 7500 of them so it'll take a while. I'll make a writeup to accompany it to explain what some of the file names mean.
