See You, Space Cowboy...Well, first off, I thank you for the respect. Second, I wasn't calling you anti-patriotic. You're entitled to your views, even if I disagree with them. I was calling Warb a patriot in the sense that he thinks you're insulting the United States by bringing conspiracy theories into this tragedy - and for the record, I do agree. I'm just not as passionate about that as he is.

Thank you for your reply, and I now understand how my post came across that way. I just have such disgust and distrust for the main stream media, and that has made me quite cynical. I meant no disrespect for the victims or city of Boston. I'm am also sick of this death and destruction, and I am venting that frustration in my own way. I would rather not have to comment on such events, but I refuse to be silent at the risk of offending someone, because it's impossible not to offend someone out there.

I don't really care, but if it's such a crime to blame Islamic extremists, why is it okay to blame right wing white American Protestants with equally little corroborating evidence?
I think the differences in sensitivity levels is largely due to all the attacks and hate crimes done against white people after Newton, Aurora, Columbine, and Oklahoma City.
This is a good question, but also a bit misleading because most recent terrorist attacks have been committed by "right wing American Protestants" so it's natural to speculate if this is on the same lines. Warbler had a legit point about speculating/investigating parties that could be possible suspects based on past actions and known activities, and the reason I took some issue with that is because 9/11 was a long time ago and, really, an isolated incident, which hasn't quite clicked with a lot of people but it's true. Middle eastern terrorists haven't blown anything up in the United States since 12 years ago, so they aren't very realistic suspects any more when there is a whole population body of crazy white people who have been doing stuff like this many times over the past few years--them and pretty much them alone. If it was 2002, for example, it would be reasonable to wonder if Al Queda was responsible for a terrorist attack. Doesn't really hold much water any more, although I will admit the public/spectacle nature of this crime is a bit more in keeping with such an organization rather than the "lone gunman" local extremists that have been in the news a lot recently.
Having said that it would be wrong of course to start arresting card-carrying Republicans as suspects--which is pretty much what happened to that Saudi fellow, who's only crime was being middle eastern in public. The official reason is "acting suspicious" of course, but I can read between the lines on that one, and I'm not sure what that even entails since I don't think they have officially elaborated on it (you mean he looked nervous and worried like he just survived a public bombing?). When being Republican at a major crime gets you in a police car this point will have more merit.

Jedi KnightYes to some degree, based on their political stance. Not where they were born or what they look like. It's legitimate to criticism political stances, you can't possibly equate that with Islamophobia. I mean, even non-Muslims have to suffer that, a Sikh temple was destroyed after 9/11 because some jackasses didn't know what Sikhs were.

Jedi KnightI think you are assuming too much there, but again: has that ever impacted a Tea Partier's life in a meaningful way, beyond the fair game of political criticism? Has anyone been arrested at a crime scene on the basis of being a member? Of course not. It's insulting to the victims of racial profiling to even attempt to compare the two.

Magister Pontifex MaximusFirst off FanFiltration didn't introduce a conspiracy theory he posted to a piece of video with an item of data not theory. The first theory on here was that it was Islamic terrorists, arguably a conspiracy theory, who did this.
Next up this isn't a shrine to the people killed or injured in this awful act.
It's an off topic, unmoderated thread on a discussion board about Star Wars where a piece of breaking news is the subject heading.
Calling people names is fun and using fowl language is hilarious but some might find it a bit distasteful considering that nobody caught up in this crime was an evil public figure.
But they aren't probably reading this thread anyway so knock yourselves out you freaking loons.

With all the potential cell phone photos and video, this might be the most documented crime in history. If there had been this level of tech in 1963, a lot of JFK theories would be toast.

White American Christian here.
My life is just as easy today as it was before this. And before Newton, and Aurora, and Columbine, and the Olympic bombings, or the Anthrax attacks.
I'm still doing pretty good. But my Wife is Mexican, so maybe that protects me from the Oppression Rays that victimize all the rest of us in the majority.

It doesn't feel like 911 was that long ago to me. It was no isolated incident. 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center, USS Cole, 1998 US Embassy bombing, etc.

I believe there have been multiple attempted terrorist attacks that foiled. They have tried and continue to threaten the United States. There have also been bombings done other countries like Iraq and Afghanistan. It is very clear that they hate us and want to kill us. In addition, I am sure some want revenge for Bin Laden. So when a terrorist attack happens and Americans are the target, what is wrong with wondering if Al-Qaeda did it?

why isn't reasonable wonder it right now. They are a terrorist organization, why shouldn't we wonder if they are responsible for a terrorist attack? Wonder is much different from assuming or concluding.

I agree that we shouldn't go around arresting anyone without sufficient evidence.

I not trying to be disrespectful or anything but I think these kind of events get way too much attention. Every day hundreds of people die of hunger (which is far more horrible way to die) and yet no one complains or cares about that.
Prequel Trilogy was supposed to be a story about a good man turning bad. In reality, it is a story about how a complete jerk (PT Anakin) turned into one of the best characters in film history (OT Vader)

couldn't disagree with you more. 3 people died and many more have lost limbs. Since the we haven't yet arrested the person or people responsible, this could happen again. I'd say that merits attention.

Let's face it, guys. The media helps terrorists win.
Look at how fearful the USA has become post-9/11. With the Patriot Act, TSA bullshit, ..., the list goes on and on. I have no doubt that all of the attention by the media played a significant part in easing the rise of the 2002-present USA Security Theater.
If the goal of terrorism is to transform the target into a terrorized fearful society, then Al-Qaeda won back in 2001.

I hate to be realistic but just sending the food doesn't actually solve the problem. The country and its people need to get responsible and limit their population within their production capabilities. I mean "send us food and we will multiply" attitude is bound to hit the brutal reality of nature.
