I hope they match the Super powered alien with a muscular man in a cloth suit with practical gadgets :

rather that a rubber muscle robot with electronic gizmos.

Thought I'd create a quick mockup of Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman that made it look serious...

Hmm he might be okay? Ledger was a joke until everyone saw him in the film, so who knows.

btw I love the idea (Above) of bringing Keaton back to play old Batman.

This video of Akira The Don's (Rapper and comic geek) wife breaking the news to him about Affleck is hilarious...

I just got back from having root canal work done and I was walking through an underpass with a busker singing in the Bob Dylan mode when a wee lad ran up to him and asked, "Can you sing Batman?".

He thought about it for a microsecond or three and then I was treated to a 60's protest version of Nelson Riddle if you can picture it.

The problem is not Affleck, who can very likely do a decent or good job in this version role which they have obviously casted to have someone to banter with the young Supes.

The problem is that this is Man of Steel II.

If it works, then likely expect an Affleck directed Justice League.

They should have had three Man Of Steel films before pulling this cracker.

I vehemently agreed too that a MoS trilogy should be done first when adding Batman was announced, but I've thought it through and I actually think it might work. First, it has to be pointed out that, if WB didn't put Batman into this next movie, their whole Justice League set up might've fallen apart. Granted, that's not necessarily true, and Justice League might still fall apart, but the chance of it not failing have increased dramatically.

Man of Steel made a ton of money. The thing is, it lost business really quickly. Add that in with the fact that sequels rarely do as well as their predecessor, and the MoS sequel was destined to be a disappointment - not a good next step for the franchise. Adding in Batman, however, practically guarantees that this sequel will do more than the first.

Now, they can easily mess this up, but as long as this is still a Superman movie, that happens to have Batman as a supporting character in it, this can still be a true sequel. If this doesn't make the same mistakes as Iron Man 2, it can still succeed as a film in and of itself. What I mean is that if they forsake doing any JL build up and keep this from being an advert for that film, adding in Batman could work.

The other good thing is that Ben Affleck is very likely to direct either JL or a stand alone Batman movie (my guess would be the latter). Which means that he will want a say in how the MoS sequel portrays and interprets Batman. Which could mean that he might work on the script in some way. Which would mean that the main problem with the first film (inconsistent script) could be fixed on this second film.

Fingers crossed.

I kinda hope there is no Batman standalone, especially if DC isn't gonna pull a Marvel and do two a year as far as movies go. Too many DC characters deserve a movie that haven't had 7 made already, more if you include Adam West and the serials. I'm hoping Batman is kinda like Nick Fury or Coulson in the MCU, in everything, but the star of nothing.

As long as the next one actual has a final act.

That skyscraper demolishing screensaver burning vortex crap got boring really quickly.

I would usually agree, but a Ben Affleck directed Batman film... that's too good to resist.

Same here.  This isn't even a blip on my radar.  Funny how much attention it's getting.  It's a comic book film.  They're throw-away.  Watch the ones you dig, ignore the ones you don't.  No single film can ruin a character or franchise.  Unless you let it.

Got to disagree...

1987 Superman IV*
1990 Rocky V
1995 Judge Dredd**
1997 Batman & Robin
2002 Star Trek: Nemesis

... all films that stopped franchises dead for around a decade. Until...

2013 Man Of Steel - Skipping over Superman Returns as that just killed it again ;-) (26 Year gap)*
2006 Rocky Balboa (16 Year gap)
2012 Dredd (17 Year gap)
2005 Batman Begins (8 Year gap)
2009 Star Trek (7 Year gap)

* Souring a franchise for a quarter century was testament to how awful 'Quest For Peace' was.

** My favourite comic character growing up was nearly killed off for my entire adult life because one film sucked so badly that it overshadowed everything that was great about Dredd. Thank god the latest film was awesome! :-)

If MOS2 is so terrible that it fails to perform financially as expected, it would wipe out Superman and possibly Batman with him for another decade. Let's not foget that MOS didn't set the box office on fire. It made a 200m profit, sounds good but 'Iron Man 3' made twice what MOS made at the box office and took home over 800m profit.

200m is only half the budget needed for MOS2 (Including marketing) so this franchise needs to start paying or Warner Brothers are just going to go elsewhere.

To be fair Superman 3 was pretty bad but nowhere near as astonishingly bad as Superman 4 and Superman Returns in my book is a much better film than Man Of Steel and not that bad at all.

Nemesis is almost identical to JJ's Star Trek too.

Superman3 is a great action-comedy movie, one of the best, Richard Pryor is hilarious. But as a Superman movie it falls short.

I had issues with MOS but it was action packed, epic and emotional unlike SR. MOS was just too action packed, trim out 30 mins of smashing crashing and it'll be nigh on perfect.

I know Shinzon and Nero have similarities in appearance, actions and general underwhelmingness (Nero is like Spock's nemesis). But the difference is that Shinzon is the central focus of the plot of 'Nemesis'. Where as Nero is mostly in the background and only serves to keep the central plot of our heroes coming together ticking along. If Nero vs Spock had been central to 'Star Trek 2009' I'd agree that it would have failed in the same way and for similar reasons.

btw I was reading a rumour yesterday that Bryan Cranston was going to be Lex Luthor.

Then we'd know-for-a-fact that at least MOS2's villain is going to kick ass. With one caveat, he should in know way... allow himself to be captured and imprisoned in a glass cell before detonating a bomb that destroys The Daily Planet.

At least the costume was proper. Undies on the outside or GTFO.

They were certainly more vibrant than the suit in Meh of Steel.

What's with them making Superman so grey?

A Superman film is supposed to be bright and vibrant, the colours practically dripping off the screen. Not boring bland bleakness. Bleagh.

Suffice it to say, I won't be watch anything Batman-related with Affleck as the character.

God doesn't think in terms of black or white - or even shades of gray - but in big, bright, bold hues of blue and orange.

As much as I hate to agree with LexX on something, I agree with LexX.

And 005.  That's much easier.
