Hey everyone. Scallenger here, doing a favor for OCPMovie, which I truly agree with. The following are his words. And if anyone is going to ban me for this, then so be it. Can't the rebel forces speak their mind without the Empire shooting them down?

I have been banned as a user. I am no longer allowed
to post on these forums. The Star Wars Classic 2.0
thread was locked by Moth3r, and now my own thread has
been locked by Zion.

SWC2 was locked not because of anything I said myself,
but due to rumors and allegations that were going
around, some of which were patently false, and some of
which are patently true. It is my opinion that I've
done nothing wrong, and regardless, whatever I was
doing, I was doing it far away from these boards,
keeping these boards "clean." Those are the rules.

I've respected Moth3r's work on his PAL transfers of
the trilogy, but in this case he was dead wrong and
abused his power.

As for my own thread, there was absolutely no reason
to lock it. Keep in mind that was my OWN thread, where
I was talking about whatever projects of mine were in
the works .... at the time it was locked, I was
talking about some troubles I was having where I moved
to Connecticut for 4 days and then moved back, and a
new movie I'm making based on a popular Marvel Comics
heroine.

I wasn't talking about anything related to that
controversy, but Zion kept bringing it up.

It's no secret on these boards that a while back, I
criticized a certain project of Zion's, and was banned
for it shortly after - ridiculously immature behavior
by a mod. Can you imagine if I would BAN anyone who
criticized one of my edits? Ye gods. I would be a
spoiled child.

Zion has wanted to ban me permanently ever since, and
he's gotten his wish, as he feels these allegations
give him the right to edit and close any and all of my
threads and throw me out.

I am making this personal in that regard, as there was
certainly no reason to close my OCPmovie Megathread
over unrelated allegations true and false.

The mods have gone back and rewritten many, many, many
of my old posts to remove information.

I have been witchhunted and banned from these boards,
and for what?

For what purpose?

what goes on at this site, and what the moderators

free, and being accused of greed in two different
locked threads is annoying. I was waiting to do so
with SW2 because I was moving and in a bad spot.
Certainly it would have been torrented, and I in fact
had already provided a dual layer copy to Movealong
for newsgroup posting (with a delay). How do you think
I got into collecting fan edits and Star Wars discs in
the first place? It wasn't through torrents. It was
because a guy was nice enough to SELL some discs to
me. I was HAPPY to pay for them, as the price was more
than fair considering the time he spent burning them
and on materials. I felt I was getting a remarkable
deal. I still get most of my discs through
legitimately paying, or through mail trade.

The ridiculous amount of work and research I did on
the Thief and the Cobbler project over many many
months, the literally thousands of free discs I sent
out, I didn't do that out of greed. I try to maintain
a high standard and do good discs. I feel no need
whatsoever to defend any of my actions.

You know how much those dual layer Star Wars 2.0 discs
cost? And for every one I burned I had five bad burns
I had to throw away ..... lord knows why but it cost a
fortune. Oh, and in case you hadn't noticed, I'm
HOMELESS right now, so hey, wow, I must have really
made some profit there.

Many people here "sell" their edits, they just don't
talk about it on the boards, and god bless them
because not everyone has the ability to download huge
torrents, and these edits deserve to be out there
somehow. I could "out" most of the people I know well
here for asking to be logically reimbursed for their
time and energy in what is a time consuming and costly
practice. I count time as money too.

If I'm a greedy profiteer, you're Wonder Woman.

End flashback, back to reality.


I'm still homeless. Still quite broke. A producer has
stepped forward to help me make my next movie, so I
guess I'm doing that. It's based on the Marvel Comics
heroine the Sensational She-Hulk, and you can get more
information at ffrevolution.com/InvisionBoard.

I had understood that it was accepted that some people
would want to download fan edits and fan preservations
via torrent or newsgroups, and some would want copies
sent in the mail. To send copies in the mail, you need
to be reimbursed for blanks, postage, packing, and
time spent creating the edits, otherwise if your edit
is popular, as mine were, you will lose a few hundred
bucks a month.

I learned this VERY quickly after losing a lot of
money sending out some Deleted Magic copies in 2005.
And I've still managed to lose money on most of my
work, particularly since I don't mind sending out free
discs to friends.

I prefer to get my discs in the mail myself, but more
people have gotten my edits for free over the internet
than have gotten them in the mail, and i like that.



Anyway, whatever.

Zion wrote me a PM a few days back with some
allegations that went very far beyond the truth, and
were sheer nonsense. You can decide for yourself if
what I did was wrong, but Zion, what you suggested
wasn't true.

As far as I know, Zion wouldn't know a damn thing
about releasing an edit via torrent OR via mail,
anyway. I'm not surprised he can be so ignorant about
what this kind of thing costs.

See, Zion is famous for being a part of the X0
Project, a laserdisc transfer of the original Star
Wars Trilogy that was begun two years ago, and was
never actually released. I suggested some time ago
that the whole thing was a publicity stunt, and the
project WOULD never be released.

To this day, Zion, MebeJedi and the rest have
continued to prove me right.

With the release of the laserdisc versions of Star
Wars on OFFICIAL Lucasfilm DVD, all transfers like the
X0 Project and even Moth3r's nice transfer become
essentially obsolete. The Lucas DVD is a clean
transfer of the master tapes used to CREATE the
laserdisc.

So there is no longer any need for something like the
X0 Project, but yet the thread goes on and on.

I posted there a while back because I was hugely
annoyed by the amount of hyperbole going on in that
thread, discussing an apparently nonexistent and
unreleasable, same old laserdisc transfer as if it
would cure cancer and be the second coming of Christ.

It's just a laserdisc transfer.

Zion had no problem with describing the X0 Project
as better than not only the 2006 DVDs, but also better
than the 2004 DVDs, which are crystal clear.

I was mocked by people like MeBeJedi when I first
proposed my Classic Edition restorations of the
original trilogy.

The Classic Editions take the crystal clear video
of the 2004 official Lucasfilm DVD releases and
COMBINE them with material from the laserdiscs or 06
DVDs to give you the original versions of Star Wars in
perfect DVD quality.

Clearly the best way to watch the original trilogy,
as you only have to see a few brief shots and
sequences in lesser quality, and the rest of the film
is crystal clear.

Yet Zion and MebeJedi and everyone else in the X0
Project kept talking about going frame by frame and
"cleaning up" the laserdisc transfer, when the 2004
DVD transfer, in all its clarity, was sitting right in
front of them.

Insanity. And pride.

Of course I went ahead and made the Classic
Editions. Very proud of Empire and Jedi. Star Wars
wasn't perfect, but I redid it recently and I'm very
proud of it now.

The reviews were great, people loved the Classic
Editions as I hoped they would.

But even a long time after, certain people,
especially in the X0 Project, kept mocking the very
idea of combining sources Classic Edition style.

So people have recently emailed me. And as people
have recently said of the X0 Project:

preservation, and none of those are nearly as good as
the official 2006 dvds, even though they aren't

about that? They should just pursue some other new

There are people here trying to work and create

You know I just don't understand why OCP has to be so uptight about the X0 project and it supposedly competing against the classic editions. They can compete together against the 2004 editions. If he doesn't care about it, then he should just move along and let Zion and the others go about their business. The fact that it would come to this is sad, really. It's like the dispute between the Judean People's Front and the People's Front of Judea from Life of Brian.
If OCP was selling his discs for a fair price that would only reimburse him for all thevdisc, postage and shipping costs, I don't see anything wrong with that.

I could be wrong but I think pupil is referring to the "GOUT", not the classic editions which would make this a misquote by OCP.

It has nothing to do with personal issues or the X0 project. He broke the forum "no selling" rule, plain and simple. I would have banned him if Zion hadn't beaten me to it.

Let's take a look at his track record:

1. He sends out free discs to names within the industry to promote himself and his own fame, then expects his "customers" to cover his costs.

2. He expects his customers to cover the costs incurred by bad burns, instead of working out what's actually wrong with his hardware.

3. Whereas other fan editors see this as a hobby or labour of love, he expects to be reimbursed for his own time.

4. And how much of his time was spent in the creation of my laserdisc transfer? So why was he selling that (and several other discs created by other members) alongside his own projects?

5. He asked Movealong to delay posting Classic Editon V2 to Usenet - to protect his profits.

6. He told Dark_Jedi not to put Classic Edtion V2 on a torrent site - to protect his profits.

Even though I rated Deleted Magic highly, this is not the kind of member we want at this site, either in person or in proxy. In future, any more messages from ocpmovie should be sent privately directly to Jay (but I tell you now it will be a waste of time, he will be in agreement with Zion and I).

In the case of his work for The Thief and the Cobbler, it has helped bring the film out from obscurity a bit. The only people in the industry he contacted and sent free discs to were those who worked on the film (or worked with Richard Williams). Openly distributing a bootleg and then meeting with a Disney executive is pretty gutsy, too. I don't like the idea of bootlegs except in the case where they're absolutely necessary. When a studio insists that the only thing they'll do with a film is release a $30 pan & scan, VHS quality, bare-bones, heavily altered version... I have to side with the bootleggers.

As for Star Wars, I have no idea of the details surrounding that stuff. However, ocp never had any problems with me putting the Recobbled Cut on GBStv, nor on Google Video (which you can actually download, along with a lot of other extra stuff he supplied to me on DVD-R). I gave him donations since I'd have to fork over $30 for the crappy "official" disc anyways. He's made a lot of people happy with the RC and I think internet drama is ridiculous.

What I really can't understand is how this guy can go about his daily life pretending such nonsense is true. His arrogance is incredible.

#1, ocp was banned originally because of his childish behavior and reediting content back into posts that had been edited by mods. (And by childish I mean his mini-crusade of spam and trolling throughout half a dozen threads about how laserdisc was obsolete.) I banned him, yes, but it was in the agreement of Jay, Moth3r, and myself to do so, which is exactly the same thing with his banning now.

#2, Ah the "allegations". If you hadn't noticed ocp, I was actually giving you a pass at first because I thought you were just trying to sell your SWCE 2.0 to make some money for your move. I figured no big deal, just a warning and we'll leave it at that. But after we started getting more complaints about your selling habits, a bomb drops. I get a pm from someone with a copy of one of your emails regarding an inquiry for SWCE 2.0. As it turns out, not only was ocp selling his new DVD, but he's selling pretty much everything he has in his collection (including other fan edits and preservations from people like Moth3r, Wookie Groomer, Doctor M, Rikter, and dark_jedi among many others) for $10 each, $20 if it's dual layer, and an extra $10 for printed covers. Not only did ocp deny that he was doing this, but continues to act like this is only covering his costs. Give me a break dude. Blank DVDs are well under a dollar, and well under 2 dollars for dual layer. If you're trying to recover for your inability to burn media correctly, you still shouldn't be passing the financial burden onto everyone else. Like I said in the "megathread", I burn both single and dual layer DVDs all the time and I've only had about 2 bad burns in the last two years.

#3, this apparent foul vendetta I have against ocp is ridiculous. Sure, it's easy to just assume I hate the guy because he says bad things about myself and the X0 Project. Sure, it's easy to look at when he was banned and assume I'm trying to get rid of an X0 "competitor". The truth is I really don't hate anyone on this board. I'm really a pretty easy going guy and I could care less what anyone says about me, about my releases, or about the X0 Project. (And if you really must know, I'm an aspiring film student myself, one step away from being homeless as well, have about $200 to my name, and I'm waiting for my damn GI Bill money to come in so I can live past December. We all have hardships dude, it's called life.)

If you want to believe the X0 Project is just some kind of "publicity stunt" and it's never going to be released you go ahead and do that (the thousands of donated dollars we've received and endless media attention we're getting are great btw). If I was really trying to gain some notoriety from my releases, don't you think I would at least talk about them on this site? See, you didn't even know I did other stuff besides Star Wars, did ya? As for the X0, just wait and see what we've been able to do with the so-called crappy and obsolete laserdisc transfers.

It's really sad it had to end this way because I think he's a decent person over all, and did some terrific things for this community with his releases.

In fact I don't think I'm the only person who likes his work and considers him a great friend of this community.

I enjoy his work too, I think he has done some rather great stuff for the community. Though I do have to say I had no intention whatsoever of dropping $20 for the 2.0 CE... I'll wait for the torrent thank you very much. As for his hostility towards the X0 project, well, I'll be honest here and say that I do agree with him somewhat on the outcome of the project (though I don't know why he would think it was a publicity stunt) I don't agree with him taking it on them like that. My 2 cents... whatever... I have bigger things to worry about right now.

Hell, all I wanted to do was to see his famed CE, moreso after seeing his great Deleted Magic film recently. Be nice if someone would torrent it!

Knightmessenger, it wasn't a misquote nor did he mislead anyone (except you) by posting it in the context he did. And I can relate to the whole film student thing (seeing as how that will prolly be me in a few years) but 10 bux is plenty to pay someone back for a dl printed disc, with a case and printed cover, along with shipping (unless it's overseas) so he was wrong in charging so much, especially for time. Dont send discs if you aren't willing to spend the time. Torrent it and let someone else send discs out, something else I think ought to be pointed out, its alright to send out other ppls edits and charge for blank and postage, it was bad enough he was making profit on his own stuff (if he really was charging that much) but making profit on other ppls worx, that's piracy. He had a few great contributions, but no matter your contribution, if you are pirating other ppls sh*t, you deserve to be banned! And revenge is ever so sweet if the ppl who are banning you happen to be some of the ppl whos stuff you were pirating.

PS i think the xo is way overhyped and prolly wont live up to expectations

PPS i also think the mods should leave this thread open (prolly move it to general discussion, because it doesn't really belong here, but then again if they do, not too many ppl will see it, and ppl should see it) because this thread provides a great conversation place about the very ethics of this site, and will help shape them, as well as serve as a reminder of what happens if you brake the rules that were generated by these publicly accepted ethics.

I agree wholeheartedly to keep this thread open for all to view.

OCP has done amazing things with The Richard Williams and Star Wars Productions. I defended him when things started to come out again recently what with all his moving around and whatnot. And there was that time that posts of his were deleted becuase of things he said.. (were they about these issues?). It's all terribly disheartening to read all this , but we need both sides of the story...

You pretty much have both sides of the story. OCPMovie wasn't banned for his hand in preserving classic films, but for his pirating of others movies. It's not like you still can't contact him through his website...

Uh, no, shame on OCP. As much as I want to see SWCE 2.0, I'm not going to pay anyone more than $5 for a DL disc (label and case or not). DL discs cost me about $1.50 and my DVD cases are about 25 cents a piece. Add in the label and ink and the cost is no more than about $5. Asking for more money to cover your time or your bad burns is wrong. As the admins have said, fix your hardware, don't try to be compensated for it by everyone else. You're suppose to be doing these edits out of love for the movie, not to make money. That's not even mentioning the fact that Star Wars is still copyrighted by LFL. I don't care if it takes someone 100 days to do a fan edit. The only person that really has any right to make any money from it is George Lucas himself.

I've personally only ever sent out a couple of discs to one person here before, but I can honestly say that I will never charge more than the materials and shipping. Shipping a DVD (SL or DL) with a label in a case costs just under $2, so that's still less than the $10-$20 he wanted for it.

I wish OCP good luck in the future, but shame on him for trying to sell fan edits to cover his time and bad burns.

I have a great deal of admiration for OCP's work, but doing good work does not give him the right to disrespect the work of others, which he did both explicitly, in his comments on XO's project, and implicitly, by selling the works of others, who they themselves did not sell their works, because they recognized that their works were derivatives of the originals. He had no right to do what he did. He knew what the rules were, and he broke them.

I empathize with the financial difficulties he's dealing with, and I greatly admire the man's work, but he broke the rules bigtime, knowing full well what the consequences would be. Fan edits are in a major gray area as it is. They survive because they are not made for profit, and their existence is indicative of a fan's dedication to a film or films. But when people start turning profits on these things, you can bet your ass that everybody that makes and distributes these sorts of projects will wind up on some movie company's shitlist. Lawsuits are bad, bad things.

By selling these works, OCP in effect has endangered EVERYBODY ELSE. You wanna bitch about fairness, how is that fair? How does the fact that he's a talented editor give him the right to endanger and take advantage of everybody else?

OCP, if you're reading this, I love the work work you do (as I've said several times), but unless there's a whole lot of people telling lies, then you did something things you shouldn't have. I appreciate everything you've done for this community, and I wish you the best of luck in everything you do in the future, but keep your nose clean, 'kay?

I would like to point out that in defence of OCP that he has become increasingly frustrated at bootleggers selling copies of his Deleted Magic at conventions and on ebay at premium prices and has campaigned to stop these faceless people from doing this in the past with minimal effect. So hes done nothing that others arn't already doing elsewhere (with the exception of using these forums to market them and putting his own name to it).

I have delt with him in the when i first joined up with these forums and i perceive him to be an intelegent and genuine guy who will go out of his way to help anyone in anyway that he can, even to the extent he was out of pocket with the release of Deleted Magic. Yet, over time i have seen his attitude become more....well....jaded, with members of the OTforums. Perhaps he blames members for distributing his work and making money from it for themselves (Jambe Davadar has had the same problems with Building Empire). He may just be p**sed off enough after being hounded for copys of this and that, to want to get something back for himself now hes at a low.

I can see this from both sides and I can understand why the Mods have acted the way they have (rules are rules and the freedom of speech argument cannot be used to bend them) after giving him a second chance in the past and he's come back and made matters much worse for himself, just, give the guy a break at the moment.
I dont condone his behaviour, but dont label him a pirate and use him as an example to others, as he himself is a victim of piracy.

Personally, I would think that somebody that is the victim of piracy would know better than anybody else how shitty a thing that is to do to someone. So for him to do it to others, after what he's been through...that's hypocritical as hell. You can't fight to uphold rules that you yourself are breaking.

I must say that I'm very dissappointed in this whole situation.

I loved Garret's work on "The Thief and the Cobbler". I know that this is a Star Wars board and not many people here care about that, but there are many members here now who post mainly in that enormous 82-page-long thread, without visiting the rest of the forum much. For us, his work is absolutely irreplaceable, as are the contacts he's gained with the people who worked on the film. Let us make something very clear now: the people whom Garret sent copies to are NOT the people who own the film, or who have a lot of influence in the higher echelons of corporate management. They are the people who worked their hearts out on the film before the Completion Bond Company took it away from them and fired them all. Garret's work on the "Thief and the Cobbler" project has been much-needed (all of the video/DVD releases of the film were and are absolute, utter crap) and I haven't seen the slightest hint of false hype or unfair profit-making from him. On the contrary, he's often given out freebies along with the DVDs that he sends.

However, based on what other people here are saying, I see that this is not the whole story, and this saddens me. Did it really not work to simply ask him to not sell other people's restorations for $10 on his website? Was banning him really the last resort that the admins went to after trying out all of the other possibilities?

Can't you guys reach some sort of compromise? If I understand this correctly, he's not selling other people's work out of this website but out of his own website... this is immoral, but... is it against the rules? And are other people who do this (while not directly advertising the fact on this board) ALSO identified and banned?
