I am ready for the trials!Very interesting.
None of the SW films seem to be in circulation. The guy who puts on revival screenings near me has complained in the past he can't get any of them from Fox. Perhaps this is another rogue screening like in Boston?

Once it's done, I'm out. So don't worry. -Love, JT.Could be. They are charging admission, so I don't know if it's a rogue. If it is, can't LFL come after them if they didn't sponsor it? If LFL DID sponsor it, then it'll be the 2004 P.O.S. for sure. I hope that's not the case and we can get some pics from it. It does say "the original", but we know that doesn't mean squat these days.

Jedi KnightWhenever I say "the original Star Wars", I mean Episode IV, not Star Wars in the 1977 un-SE version. Fox, I can only imagine under the orders of Lucasfilm the copyright holder, does not circulate any prints of the films. If you see them in repertoire theatres like this they are rogue prints. Lucasfilm sanctions use of the 2004 video master, but only at very special events of its own chosing and sponsorship, and on rare occassions. I think they want to strangle the availability so that when they do a re-release (i.e. in 3d) it is a limited, rare event that creates value. Cruel, but a smart move for financial exploitation (and isn't that all it comes down to these days).

Chief Architect of Cynical MoralityToo far away to risk it being the SE. I'm sure "The Original" just means "not any of the other movies with the title 'Star Wars'".

Anyone here up for contacting Darth Spice who is a member of sandtroopers.com:

Sandtrooper rrighteous Reports:
"Chicago, Fox Valley correspondent checking in. Any local Troopers up for a showing of the original Star Wars Episode IV on the big screen? Or so it's being advertised, I don't know how accurate that is. Well, if your in Chicago, the western suburbs to be exact, it's playing at the Arcada Theater in St. Charles, IL on Wednesday at 3PM and 7PM. Admission is $5, - I hoping some 501st show up, it would be awesome to see some costumed fans there. I'm taking my boys age 9, 7 and 3 - since they've never seen it on a screen bigger than our TV."
Be cool to tell him to document as much as he can.
I saw Star Wars in 1977. Many, many, many times. For 3 years it was just Star Wars...period. I saw it in good theaters, cheap theaters and drive-ins with those clunky metal speakers you hang on your window. The screen and sound quality never subtracted from the excitement. I can watch the original cut right now, over 30 years later, on some beat up VHS tape and enjoy it. It's the story that makes this movie. Nothing? else.

"I certainly might, but I'll see if the other guy who originally reported it is going. SOUNDS like a good time maybe."

Cool!
I Guess it really depends on how "meticulouse" fans are with regards to star wars---lol!
But it would probably ruin his enjoyement if he is trying to take fotographs or even if he tries to film with a camcorder.
Still it would be nice to know If it is an original print from 77',78,79',81 or 82' and what the sound mix is(35mm stereo optical or the academy monoaural).
Would also be cool if he could get a shot of the binary sunset and the cantina sequence when Greedo is speaking(with subtitles).

The heck with that! He needs to storm the projection booth and take the print! I triple-dog-dare him!

Once it's done, I'm out. So don't worry. -Love, JT.Thanks, Anchorhead! I took the image and combined it with a logo from the soundtrack to make a poster. I'd love to find a larger one!

At any rate, I am still waiting on word as to whether someone made it to the showing that can share with us.

Unfortunately, the guy that reported to Darth Spice did not go to the screening:
"Sorry I don't have a report for you. My wife had to go in to the hospital on the 28th after I made the report about the screening, and it being my youngest's 2nd birthday on the 28th we ended up celebrating last night. If you hear of anyone that went, let me know. I have a feeling they will be playing more Star Wars movies there from time to time if it went well.
Everyone is fine here now, so I'm really bummed that we missed it!
I heard from another chicago local on the rebelscum boards that had seen a previous screening there that it was nothing special and they had played the film off a DVD or something - though I'm pretty sure that isn't entirely accurate since that doesn't sound legal and the company that owns this theater now hosts some pretty high profile entertainment there so I don't think they'd risk the wrath of lucasfilm by having an illegal showing."
I haven't been able to find any other mentions.

Jedi KnightOther than at the Lucasfilm Star Wars celebration events where the screen the 2004 video versions in DLP, as far as i am aware before that all legally screened prints were the 1997 versions which i don't actually hate too much compared to the 2004.
If i had to choose i would pick a 35mm print of the special editions 1997 with correct colors and star wars with no botched sound mix.
But i prefer the 77 version especially the dye transfer Technicolor one above all.
The one 97 version that dissapointed me soundwise was Jedi, the music seemed to be dialed down or crappy because of digital fixing of the pops or analog noise in the original recordings. In fact thanks to Rinzler even empire spposedly had sawpped shannels on some scenes.
Star Wars 97 version was not effected, even if its Dolby mix was not as good as its prior theatrical 77 6 track dolby mix in 70mm.
