What program do you use for all this effects work?

I downloaded the model from Scifi3d.com, rendered and animated it in Anim8or (wimpy 3D program), and composited the shot in After Effects.
Oh never mind. :p

Looks pretty good. Needs to be a tad sharper though. Is that program simple to use? For a 3d animation newbie?

Yeah, the problem was I'm using the video from the blu-ray, and I rendered the helmet too small, so I had to upscale it.
Anim8or is like the Microsoft Paint of 3D animation, haha

Yeah, all the powerful programs have super-difficult interfaces that I simply can't grasp.

I'm finally back from a week-long trip, during which I didn't have my editing gear.
I will now be returning in full-swing to my edit, and hopefully uploading some new videos and comparisons.
Is there any scene that you all are curious to see?
In the meantime, here's an update on my edit of Anakin vs. Obi-Wan:
And a new comparison shot!

Reminds me something l did before :)
Its curious why a hangar of a battle ship has to many round corners and round motives in the ground. Not to mention the polished reflective surfaces.
I liked the "selective lighted" troopers(in the corner), but i think that was the thing that ILM did in the first place to tone up obiwan and the others. Focusing on both points might be risky.

I was inspired by your work, Angel!
But I don't mind the reflective floors, as we actually see that in the OT. The problem is the blues, reds, and fancy floor designs.
What happened to the beautiful simplicity of classic hangar bays?

Is this shot staying?

I think I will be keeping these shots in my edit. In light of your other suggestions about Cody, I wanted the audience to see him in person talking with Obi-Wan before the battle, rather than over the radio.

Good point. You are right, more human contact, better.
However I suggest that you put something in the middle of the Coruscant take off and this scene. It's too abrupt and fast for an hiperspace travel.
Greetings!

Yeah, I'll need to break it up somehow, but it's hard because the scene that normally breaks up the action is moved to a different part of the movie in my edit.
Too many edits I've seen don't give enough time for hyperspace, so I'll do my best to work around it.

"darth endeor was a meanyhead" - FatherSkywalker, et al--QFTI'm not nearly the visual guru that Angel is, but personally I like the shot as is. Sometimes it's nice to have a shot that leaves the eyes wondering where the focus will be, then zooming in or cutting to the right folks. It reminds me of ROTJ when we are in the Mon Cal hangar just before Lando is made custodian of the Falcon and Han and co. get on the shuttle. It's just a wide shot that draws your attention to various places. In motion, I'm sure I'd have a better opinion to provide.
I definitely like darker, as it is more reminiscent of OT, and doesn't show off the plastic-y nature of the PT as much.
The ROTJ collaborative thread is a wealth of ideas, both on how to edit Return of the Jedi, as well as how to collaborate in an edit. Emanswfan has taken leadership of the project.

Yeah, I always likened this shot to the hangar shot from RotJ, where there's lots to look at - little details and people walking around. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing that there's not a particular focus to the shot, but I definitely see where Angel is coming from.
In the end, I took out the lighting on the V-Wing in the corner. Because it's dark in the original, and it looks really grainy when I light it up.

On the other hand a nice big star destroyer hangar as establishing shot wouldnt be a bad idea.
Clone wars and various sources can give us a hint of how this hangar looks.

Maybe a wide to close shot will help the OT feel.
That would require massive ammounts of work tho.(i can think a few solutions)

Ah, a very nice idea!
What are your solutions?
I already gave a shot at making a 3D hangar, but I painfully realized just how bad I am at making anything look good in 3D.

New video clip!
This time it's the duel with Count Dooku!
http://vimeo.com/32890272
Explanation:
I've rearranged the scenes so that the Invisible Hand is actually under attack DURING the Dooku fight. This solved a lot of my problems with the scene, and allowed me some greater freedom to edit, as I could cut out to battle shots.
In order to keep it consistent that the ship is under attack, I have added explosions and flashes outside the windows.
Another thing I did was change the saber color to match more closely to the OT blue lightsabers.
General color correction throughout. Removed awful cyan tint from most all the shots, and played with lighting a tiny bit.

¤°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°¤When Anakin and Dooku first clash their sabers there is originaly a camera shake for no reason. With your concept now makes more sense, if you add explosions or boom sounds.
I liked the Green lasers(finaly)!
Never thought that the Red lights will look better as blue. Count that as +
I Like the concept of dooku throwing ben away but it gets confusing from what angle he sends him. I think flipping the first shot so Dooku throws him with a better subconscious way
Since i like the only Glows as explosions ROTS has been established a more detailed concept of explosion sprites. Maybe you want to take a look of that.
Good work commander!

This also explains why Palpatine can justify "Leave him or we'll never make it!" And I'm glad you like the music, ben!
I don't really understand what you mean by the explosion glows, though.
Funny how we were both looking at the same piece for different purposes. I was pleased just how well it worked in this scene.

¤°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°¤The explosions in OT especially in ANH are just glows.
The explosions in PT and later OT films are more detailed sprites(images that always look at the camera)
Have only glows in ROTS look efficient from one hand but it needs some more detail from the other

I am ready for the OOT!I really like what you've done with the last 2 clips. The final duel is very streamlined, with all the silly fighting and dialog removed. How will you handle Anakin's defeat?
The Dooku duel is very nice too. The explosions and attack give a nice explanation as to why the walkway falls on Obi-Wan.
You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

"The greatest fraud ever perpetrated on the fanedit community." - Probably Anti-MatterI'm a bit late... but wow, what a difference... By streamlining the lightsaber fight with the fact that the ship is getting blown away gives the scene some tension and sense of urgency. Very well done. However, my only real change would be to cut Palpatine's "Good, Anakin!" and just have him simply cut his head off. Not make it obvious that Palpy is pulling the strings. I actually think all reference to Palpatine being evil should be removed, so that when he reveals his evil side it's abrupt.. if that's even possible. Otherwise, wow!

I disagree. Dooku's look of shock is too good.
