"darth endeor was a meanyhead" - FatherSkywalker, et al--QFT^I thought it was the only time in all three movies they actually managed to hit anything. Definitely not SWAT tactics but it's nice to know that once upon a time Obi-Wan was correct: "Only Imperial stormtroopers are so precise."
While I tease, I too am watching this edit with interest and truly appreciate your approach. I'd be interested in seeing how you tighten that scene up.

BTW, any ideas how to handle the Tarkin-Leia dialog?

It is quite hard to re-cut this, as Leia speaks fast. A good cut is after the "Governor Tarkin" directly to "I recognized...", but then there is a continuity issue with Vader's position...

I always got the impression that Leia was just ignorant of the real power dynamics in the Empire. Vader is clearly working for somebody, but nobody really knows that the Emperor is a crazy evil wizard, so they pin it on Tarkin and lower-level types.

Slayer of DeaditesNice videos recently! The tightened Tantive scene is pretty great; I love how overwhelming the Empire seems. The video of Leia and Tarkin is a noticeable edit but I think it IS definitely better than leaving the "Vader's leash" line, considering the purpose of the edit.

Yes, it is noticeable and I am not totally satisfied with it, but for now I will leave it like this, unless I (or someone else) comes up with a better (but still doable) idea. In any case, the "Vader's leash" line MUST GO.

Long time without an update.
I've finally completed the torture droid scene. It's not 100%, as the tracking of the mask is a bit off, so that the cell door appears to wobble a bit, but other than that it is as I intended. NO PROBE! Vader enters and tells Leia that they will discuss the location of the plans, Leia looks towards the door and the door closes.
I will fix the door mask tracking problem later, currently I want to move on to other scenes. I'll post the new video clip soon.

Hi, first time posting in this thread. I just want to say that this is one of those "why didn't I think of this idea" type of ideas! Though Vader DID use machinery to torture Han in ESB, Vader himself could be a torture device if he wanted. Nice idea and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

I just want to add that beside making Vader a stronger character, I will also try to:
- remove as many elements that I find very obviously outdated (example: Falcon scanning crew, etc.)
- tighten up some scenes (example: Tantive boarding)

However the way it stands now, it lacks some of the emotional impact of the original, given that she seems completely unconcerned that Vader is about to torture her. I would instead insert a short version of her scared face (I don't think it's obvious that she's not looking right at Vader), and then cut to the closing door. Make sure you keep some scary sounding music.

Well, I wouldn't say she looks totally unconcerned. She does look at the door as it closes with something in her mind, but yes, a bit more frightened face would work better! I'll see how using the scared Leia scene works here.

TARKIN : Vader!
VADER CONTINUES TO CHOKE MOTTI.
TARKIN : Vader, release him!
VADER : As you wish.
VADER STOPS CHOKING MOTTI.
That way Vader makes it clear that he could if he want carry on but choses to defer to Tarkin on his own terms.

Also, I know it's in crummy shape, but I was watching the Vader/Bast deleted scene, and if there was a way to incorporate it with a good Vader impersonation, it would really strengthen Vader and Bast while simultaneously weakening Tarkin. I honestly like the idea of the dissension in the ranks...it adds to the political flavor and shows a lack of faith in the foolish Grand Moff, thus leaving more room for other ambitious sorts, such as Darth Vader.

As Darth_ender said, it is not obvious that Leia's not looking right at Vader during here scared face-scene. I tried it and looks much better. No I just need to make the probe removal up to standards.
