For once I actually wanted to pat George on the back.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won't last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you'll be able to project it on a 20' by 40' screen with perfect quality. I think it's the director's prerogative, not the studio's to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

What is there against Rick McCallum? Does he have any creative input at all? Isn't he a logistics man who does Lucas's bidding? I know his voice is grating, but seriously, how does he even deserve blame?

Because he is such a lacky in every interview, and he is everything different then the guys who worked on the OT with Lucas who would stand up to him if they disagreed.

I know McCallum thinks like us, he's an OOT guy, he probably thinks the PT is crap, and probably thinks most of the SE chagnes are ridiculous, but he's on the payroll, so he has to be a corporate guy.

He is like listening to someone from the Presidents Staff on a TalkShow, he is not going to criticize anything because he would probably get fired.

Problem with a sequel with original cast is:

as much as I'd like to see Mark/Luke in a role a la old Obi Wan, I surely don't want to see him talking with the ghost of Hayden! ........ oO

Also, there's no way Mark Hamill would come back. What would make him go back to the universe that typecast him? Yeah, I know, money talks, but still...

Stop milking the cash cow, Lucas. It's been bleeding for the past five years...

Sounding like a broken record since May 2006.

He has complained for many years that Luke's story ended at the moment he became a Jedi and that we never got to see him being anything else than a novice until the final reel of ROTJ.

He did return as Luke, narrating the Vector Prime ad.

Has it? People keep drinking their milk. I never understood that problem. Let a new generation have Star Wars too.

As for the new trilogy, too predictable. Obviously false.

RE: A new Star Wars Trilogy on the way?

I think under the right circumstances Hamill would come back for a film or even a trilogy. Let's say Christopher Nolan is directing a script from Frank Darabount and executive produced by George Lucas to the tune of $300 million per film, and it sounds like a really awesome movie/trilogy, and they are also going to pay him well; Hamill's already typecast and has no real career to guard against. That sort of attitude only made sense when he was younger and had the potential to take himself in more ambitious directions. He can still do his comic books and cartoon voice-over, too. But I think if the films were put together in an attractive package pretty much all of the original cast would be on board in a second, maybe even Ford too.

Arguably typecasting dogged Christopher Lee's career for sometime but being cast in the BBC adaptation of  Gormenghast (largely because of it's gothic overtones) re-engergised his career.

Getting the OT crew back together with some new characters could remind people what great actors Mark and Carrie can be and it may give them a second life (Harrison could probably do with a boost too but not if Lucas is at the helm).

I wouldn't count Hamill out. I wouldn't guarantee him either, but I'm sure he'd be back sooner than, say, Ford. And Lucas tried to put the bug in his ear about becoming the new Obi-Wan figure a couple decades ago, as different as the story was back then.

Why does there have to be new Star Wars for a new generation to have it?  There's already plenty of Star Wars for this, the next, and every subsequent generation to be satisfied.

That is indeed a line, often from LFL or it's supports I never understood.

"The PT is their Star Wars."

No one ever said "Godfather 3 is their Godfather."

If the 3D movie experiences would help fund an HD restoration of the ORIGINAL Trilogy, I'd be all for going to see each and every one.

This would be a great marketing tool for GL as well.  Something like.....

For ALL you die hard fans that want the unedited, original, stinking Star Wars Trilogy...the one you ALL have been asking for then here's the deal.....

Gather ALL your hardcore Star Wars fans and attend every 3D release.....

Keep ALL of your ticket stubs as proof of purchase....

After Return of the Jedi finishes playing we'll give you ALL the address to send your ticket stubs to.  Profits from the 3D releases will be used to fund the project and when it's complete each person who sent their ticket stubs in will receive a Blu-ray Release of the Original Star Wars Trilogy for showing their appreciation to the biggest cultural and movie phenomenon ever.

Up for the challenge.....

This would be worth the money spent.

Just an idea anyways..........are you listening Mr. Lucas?

:)

And who decides there's plenty? The movies are there for everybody, yes. But what's so wrong to give people (old or new) more Star Wars? I'm not talking about more movies, but everything else. If people buy it, it's because they like it. I still don't understand the "stop milking the cash cow" argument...

I have no problem with this at all.

I would be happier if Lucas didn't write or direct them but let a more competent team put them together.

SW fan JJ Abrams would be ideal....or perhaps Christopher Nolan.

 No. And no.

The only people I want to see working on a new sequel would be someone involved in the original trilogy like Gary Kurtz. I don't want to turn Star Wars into some bullshit remake that looks nothing like the originals. Keep it in the family or don't do it.

RE: A new Star Wars Trilogy on the way?

You can't make it the way it was. The people involved are different now. Case in point, Lucas makes the PT. Case in point, Lucas, Ford and Speilberg make Crystal Skull. I doubt Gary Kurtz would be of any use, since he hasn't worked in three decades, and he wouldn't be the same person he was in 1980 anyway.

I wouldn't want a next trilogy that isn't different than the ones before it, there is nothing worse than repeating oneself for the sake of some "purist" argument which is an illusion anyway. The third trilogy was always designed to be stylistically different, and I think that's one of its strongest assets. Based on the mature, introspective and philosophical tone and subject matter Lucas said it would have explored, I think Nolan would have been a perfect fit for it given his sensibilities, strengths and the subject matter of his past work.

Because there are fans who actually realize that stories need to come to an end at some point.  That if you just keep going for the sake of having new stuff, it's utterly useless.  There is one mindset of fans that they just want to always have that feeling of having new stuff come out because it feels nice when new stuff comes out.  Then there's that mindset of fans that just want an awesome story told in an awesome fictional universe and then have that awesome fictional universe laid to rest because, let's face it, that's part of what makes it special.  If you're constantly inundated with it, first it becomes routine, then it just becomes annoying.

Today is BTTF on Blu-ray day.  I have a feeling you're not going to find a lot of disgruntled fans out there begging for another sequel under the logic, "Let a new generation have their Back to the Future too."  The existing trilogy already tells a story that continues to delight people.  No need to drag it out or spin it off or milk it dry.

RE: A new Star Wars Trilogy on the way?

To be fair though, the Clone Wars series is pretty terrific. I'm glad they made it, and its something that is equally entertaining for both adults and kids. It has brought a lot of quality entertainment to kids, and its something adults can appreciate too. I realize its a bit of a diamond in the rough by most EU standards. But I also realize that 90% of fans out there just ignore all the EU except a select one or two things that they fancy. But its nice to have a pesudo-mass-audience Star Wars thing like Clone Wars, because lets face it, kids today aren't watching BTTF and ANH like we were, it's not as culturally or stylistically relevant, so its always beneficial to have newer things out there.

I've never understood this point of view.  I remember having this discussion (if you want to call it that) with vaderisnothayden several times.  You don't have to consume the new product.  It's pretty easy to ignore, even on this forum.  I do it all the time with the EU.  But why take it away from those who might enjoy it?

Apparently we need different classifications in the future. In order to say that we're Star Wars fans, but aren't going to support the 3D releases, sequels, etc. Not for here, for the general public.

"Classic Star Wars Fans"? I like it.
