Your powers are weak...Very quick blend of GOUT and JSC V8 (done with Avisynth, no human intervention required, but clips would need proper warping to fit each other):

Very nice, I always wondered if that was possible with avisynth, could you please post a script example on this? but how the heck do you solve the warping issue?
We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Your powers are weak...Script was:
gout=imagesource("gout.tga").flipvertical.converttorgb32
cap=imagesource("jsc.tga").flipvertical.converttorgb32
mask=gout.levels(240,1,240,0,255).showgreen
stackvertical(stackhorizontal(gout,cap).reduceby2,fuse(gout,cap,mask))

Your powers are weak...Slight improvement by using only the blue channel of JSC to get rid of the blue cast:

Nice, will check it out. :) I guess it could at least realistically be done on a few short sequences that is problematic in the GOUT if you manage to make them align properly (warping). Am I right about what warping means here?

I was playing around with blending GOUT with JSC in Photoshop one day when I was bored, before I realized there's nothing in the GOUT to benefit from.
To help the analysis further, take a look at these close ups of Obi-Wan's beard -- STENDEC

Laserdisc MasterAs I've recently done the GOUT-'Pyramid' LD frame-by-frame comparison now I could see clearly the GOUT faults - you can see them here too - also if I'm still not happy with the ColourLike script results... then I've taken the new 'Pyramid' LD capture and treated with a slighty modified WhiteMagic 0.5 script - only more saturated to have a better overall color and not so lifeless as before:
Still thinking that, also if it's not perfect yet, "white magic is better - now with added colors" ;-)
What do you think?

I think the Pyramid version has the most detail in the bright areas, but it could benefit from expert hands to get the colors corrected. It is looking really good so far though given the source. I am not sure if there is less detail in the dark areas though. A hybrid of the Pyramid and the GOUT might be the answer.

Laserdisc MasterI'm resurrecting my old thread to post some news.
As I've done "The Thing" project lately, and results were not bad, I thought to use the same technique to color grading the "pyramid" captures.
Here you are a screenshot; first "pyramid" as is, second with noise reduction and color matching my [ruLes] project (click for bigger version):
a clip is available HERE
Still not perfect, but waaay better than before, don't you think?

What a good sense of smell have you! (^^,)
Well, as I deleted ALL the captures I used for OUT (and SET too), what I need is to recapture them all (again) possibly with a better PAL player, try to find an NTSC smear-free trilogy on laserdisc (Technidisc) and capture them with the Pioneer HLD-X9, then use the PaNup script to match them to obtain a better video quality and... presto! A OUT [ruLes 3.0] will be ready...
In the meanwhile, Harmy will release his DE 2.5, and team negative1 will release their version... so, probably I'll give up! (**/) - I do LOVE laserdisc, and I "squeezed" out every bit of details from it, but when a higher resolution source is available, it's better to use it...
With this, I could always think to redo the SET trilogy, as I think there is still possible to realize a more than decent version using laserdisc as a source - until someone would like to do a De-Re-Specialized edition, something like what Harmy did with his DE, but obtaining a 1997 version... in this case, this person WILL need some part from the laserdisc, so I hope he/she will contact me!

LA GUERRE DES ETOILESThe ending scene of the Gold/Pyramid French edition also looks pretty good to me.
Here's the scene uploaded to Vimeo, no color corrections, just a raw LD capture: https://vimeo.com/75260761

Laserdisc MasterAn example of "less is more" enhancement, made on Spanish LD old capture - top original, bottom enhanced:

(you can download the clip here, it's only 486KB)
In this screenshot the enhanced version seems. ehr, less enhanced, as there is a lot of grain in it... I actually added it, because in motion it seems more natural, while with the previous setting it seemed a bit "plastic-y".
It's good to see someone else still interested in laserdisc-related stuff!

Definitely interested in smear free sources. Don't much care for the PAL speedup though.

Joliet JakeYou can undo that, NTSC pulldown can be more destructive if not done properly...
... And they had 'The Empire Strikes Back', the fifth of the four Star Wars films. He is fucking with us numerically, isn't he! "Children, count up to ten." "Four, five, six, one, two, three, ten". No, it goes, four, five, six, one, two, three… No, it goes: four, five, six. One... Two and three have not been made." "Two and three have not been made! What should they be?" "What should they be? We do not know. All we know is that there will be a big floppy character in it that goes, squawk squawk squawk... who needs a punch up the bracket!"

U u uwa uwa...352 scanlines, eh?
That's the same vertical resolution as NTSC 2.35:1 SD anamorphic, não?

Laserdisc MasterYes, indeed... they seems strange coincidences, but I'm pretty sure the engineers thought well about video questions, even in those "analog" times... (^^,)
