Pretty neat slideshow of the history of ILM's groundbreaking stuff, but I found one problem, right on the second picture:
On the page describing that they won an Oscar for Star Wars, the shot is from the 2004 DVD and most of ILM's Academy Award-winning work was replaced in this shot. Oops?

Magister Pontifex MaximusIt's rather disheartening to note that the majority of the pictures were about breakthroughs in CGI and only a small amount regarding physical model work, camera motion control, digital compositing etc.

Regarding this story;
http://news.cnet.com/2300-11386_3-10004866.html
The second picture is not from the original 1977 film. It's from the 2004 CGI-altered version.
I hope to see it mentioned on their corrections page.

I sent the reporter who captioned that picture the following message:
http://news.cnet.com/2300-11386_3-10004866-2.html?tag=mncol In the caption of this picture you speak about ILM having won an Oscar for STAR WARS, yet there is none of the Oscar winning effects in that picture, because it is from the Special Edition of the film, where the whole Oscar winning original matte painting was replaced by a digital one. For a more in-depth view of this matter, please visit www.savestarwars.com. Thank you for the attention you will surely give fixing this understandable mistake.

Jedi KnightSee this is what Lucas re-writing of history accomplished, ignorance of the original films not the redone ones in 1997 or 2004.
Then based on the prequels or special editions people will say, man star wars really sucks. See Lucas had ruined the films credibility with this crap.
Because of this their legendary status is no longer applicable.

Jedi KnightHaha, nice find. Nothing new since on Dale Pollock's visit to the ROTJ set he noted how Lucas checked through the lens of each shot and was even seen moving cameras around. But this is a very telling photograph. It looks like Muren beside him, so where is Marquand? My guess is that this is second unit stuff. He directed most of the second unit himself. I'm surprised the second unit is using what looks like Carrie Fisher though.

I am ready for the trials!IIRC, all the bluescreen shots for the bike chase were shot at ILM, so Muren would be around.
If those shots were considered part of the post production phase, Marquand might have gone home for the day, so to speak. ;)
Maybe someone else knows if this was before or after the Endor location shoot.

Chief Architect of Cynical MoralityYou know, there are dozens of movies where I can say, "oh, that was bluescreened" even as a kid, but even today there are shots during the speeder bike chase where they have me convinced.
