I am ready for the trials!http://www.foxconnect.com/fox-75th-anniversary-giftset-dvd-fullscreen-widescreen.html
I know we shouldn't get our hopes up or anything, but it would be false advertising to stick the SE in the volume covering Fox films from 1961-1985, right? ;)

Absolutley, how could they describe the set as having Star Wars but the actual version is the 1997/2004 S.E. ?. But being as stubborn as george lucas is it most probably is Star Wars as it only exisits now.

I am ready for the trials! My local Costco has it in stock already. The Vader Poster is on one side of the box, and the Marylin Monroe is on the other. It's almost as big and hefty as some Laserdisc boxsets of yore.
"Star Wars Episode IV:A New Hope" is the only clue as to what's actually inside though.

I am ready for the trials! That's what pisses me off. They are two OT's, and no one knows what version you are talking about, because most people now can't tell the difference between the original and SE of each SW film, due to the relative nonexistence of the original version.
There has never been a set of films that has been treated this horribly than the OT, and there will never a film that will be fucked around for decades to come.
Sounding like a broken record since May 2006.

Thats what George's master plan is and unfortunately, I think it's working, or the majority of people just don't care anymore.
I will bet money that it's the SE. IMO that is false advertising.

Chief Architect of Cynical MoralityThere's no way that it won't be the SE. I think more people who would buy that set in the first place would notice that every other movie has a decent anamorphic transfer than notice CG additions and new wipes.

yavasizadooIt would be great if we could somehow organize, and print off stickers saying something like "this boxed set contains the 2004 version of Star Wars, not the original 1977 version", and surreptitiously stick them to the boxes at local stores.

This is interesting:
If you go to the end of Fox's 75thanniv. promotion:
...you get this:

Looks like the 1997 edition.
I saw Star Wars in 1977. Many, many, many times. For 3 years it was just Star Wars...period. I saw it in good theaters, cheap theaters and drive-ins with those clunky metal speakers you hang on your window. The screen and sound quality never subtracted from the excitement. I can watch the original cut right now, over 30 years later, on some beat up VHS tape and enjoy it. It's the story that makes this movie. Nothing? else.

I am ready for the trials! The clips used in promos like this can come from whatever is lying around or within reach.
If they somehow did put the 97 SE on DVD, that would be interesting and confusing at the same time.

In the listing at the end of the tribute video it displays(3rd from top left):
Star Wars :PG
1977

It has been a long time since I have seen Star Wars being advertised in this manner!
The last time may have been for the VHS/laserdisc release in 1994.

Are you going by memory when you say this? The reason I'm asking is because it didn't look that way when the '97SE was released on home video. The Binary Sunset footage in that promotion is identical in its appearence in FOX's documentary The Magic and the Mystery from '97 and it's much closer to the original colortiming if not the original.
We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.
Sincerely, Lynne Hale publicity@lucasfilm.com

Jedi KnightI wouldn't put too much stock into it. The cover for the main holding box, plus the cover for the 1961-1985 volume, plus one of 15 promotional posters for the release, promotes 1977's Star Wars with a picture of Vader from the ROTS publicity shoot.
Although I will admit, it is unusual that in the trailer they seem to have selected the shot as it appears in the material seen on the 1997 SW doc. Surely it would have been easier to simply use the 2004 DVD itself if that is what the set contains? But that video also shows a clip from Alien 3--which isn't even on the set! So I wouldn't put too much stock into it until someone can confirm it. I doubt this contains any new material or transfers. It looks like they just used clips from 1997 promotional ads. There are other scenes from films like ROTJ--which, again, isn't even on the set--and not only does the colouring correspond to promotional material from 1997 (to my eyes at least), but you can also see videotape artifacts that the other clips from the films don't have (watch the hyperspace shot, with its rainbow moire), so they probably just used some sort of 1997 promotional materials master tape rather than the DVDs themselves. That's how I would explain it, anyway. Why, I don't know. Maybe they don't have the 2004 DVDs on hand because Fox has been relegated to a mere distributor today whereas in 1997 they were the main agent behind the release and not Lucasfilm and hence have all of that material on-site.

yavasizadooWould anyone here be interested in participating "sticker campaign"? We could do something similar for the blu-ray set as well and it wouldn't be difficult.
Quiet, but effective enough to raise awareness.

Padawan LearnerConsider this: When Star Wars was in the AFI lists they always had to show a SE Death Star explosion. Hell, on "I Love the 70's" the showed the freaking SE!!

Looks like the films in the set is are being picked by the higher -ups.
