1997 SE Five Star Collection

I have the DVD9 5-Star Special Edition discs (http://is.gd/QdMaDd). I know there are probably better preservations, but if there are any completionists out there who are interested in uploads of these, let me know.

I believe that there is already a torrent going for these, but, some people may be interested.

I think only ANH and Empire are up.  Can't seem to find Jedi anywhere, so if it's not too much trouble, perhaps an upload to the newsgroup or a torrent just for Jedi might be nice.

But as you say it's only for completionists, being the far inferior versions, so no big deal either way.

I'd forgotten Jedi has yet to be torrented. Niphoet, you could handle that one if you wish.

I've never seen torrents of ANH and ESB. I'll probably just post all three.

I am interested in these. Where do you want to upload these discs?

For anyone still interested, I should have these uploaded by this weekend.

Always interested in another version of th '97SE.

The ROTJ collaborative thread is a wealth of ideas, both on how to edit Return of the Jedi, as well as how to collaborate in an edit.  Emanswfan has taken leadership of the project.

Password for all ROTJ-related clips: ROTJ

A very rough edit of how the Battle of Endor could go
A very rough idea of how ROTJ could end

Rough edit based on the final script with some deviation:

Part 1  Part 2  Part 3  Part 4

I picked up these discs from the source way back when they first came out.  At the time they were the best versions of the trilogy/Special Edition, but they also were the first discs I ever had go bad.  I was never able to copy them due to CRC errors, but I still have them, covers and all.  I doubt they play anymore.

Hmm... I'll have to give mine a spin and see if they play, then.

I acquired these way back to when they came out and mine still play great, heck of job however they were made, look like actual pressed DVDs, gold discs, labels look like a real DVD as do the covers, Dual layer, Im not a fan of the SEs but I would say these are the best versions of the original SEs out there.

Krycek87 -- If you want to upload them, that would be great. Mine are ripped but I won't be able to start them seeding until Friday, plus my bandwidth kinda sucks. If you aren't able to upload them or just don't get around to it before Friday, I'll start them then.

I had problems backing my DVD5 versions to HDD and ended up using 3 DVD drives over 2 computers to back up the files individually. Each drive had problems with different files but between the 3, all files could read OK and be backed up. It was a pain but worth the extra work...

4 - 5 - 3 - 1 - 6 - 2

Discuss..........

I have a feeling mine were flawed when I got them.  I remember trying to copy them right away, and not being able to due to errors.  I also had trouble playing at least one of the discs right off the bat...sometimes it would play, sometimes WinDVD would just sit there.  The problems just seemed to get worse over time.

These were the best versions of the SE I had up to now, but I finally got hold of the G'Kar, TB, and Flunk versions which showed up on the 'Spleen recently.  TB looks to be the best overall for Episodes V & VI SEs and the theatrical Episode I, and the Flunk is the best Episode IV SE I've seen.

Alright, the torrent with all 3 DVD9 ISOs will be available on the 'spleen within the hour. Enjoy!

I have the release of them that came out back in the early/mid 2000's, like 03 or 04.

They are pretty nice, but the color timing is kind of off a bit. Flesh tones are kinda "orangish" at times, and the color saturation is slightly pale.

Brightness is a little too high as well.

A few tweaks on the color, hue and brightness on the TV, and they're great!

The only other issue is that they're not anamorphic.

Does anyone know of any anamorphic versions of the 97 SE's out there?

I recommend checking out Lee Thorogoods 97 S.E. Laserdisc set, looks excellent and its converted to anamorphic.

RE: 1997 SE Five Star Collection

What exactly is "the 'spleen"? Please forgive me for sounding stupid. I presume this is a torrent site? Is it by invite only? If so, how would I go about getting one?

My son is celebrating his 21st birthday soon and I know he would absolutely lose his mind if I could provide him with a copy of the 1997 Special Editions. I took him and his sister to see these films when they were released in the theaters. I already have the Five Star versions of ANH and ESB so I only need ROTJ in order to complete the trilogy. If anyone would PLEASE be kind enough to tell me what steps I would need to go through in order to obtain torrents to acquire these films, I would be forever grateful.

To all of you here at originaltrilogy.com, I would like to wish you a very HAPPY NEW YEAR. May the Force be with you always. ;)

Sincerely,

 Journeyman68

Hoping to grab ROTJ if anyone would be kind enough to seed for a brief while. The Spleen is claiming there's a seed, but I'm not picking it up. :/
