One thing- I thought Aunt Beru's voice was supposed to be different on the 70mm version? It sounded the same to me.

It was different in the mono mix. The 70 mm version is basically the same as the 35 mm mix.

I posted this in another thread too but is more appropriate here I think:
Editdroid v1 has 3 audio tracks; matrixed dolby surround 70mm 6-track mix, dolby stereo surround mix and original mono mix. If you want to compare the audio mixes I think you want this disc.

O.K. I looked up the sources they used for the audio tracks. 6-track > DC, stereo > 1989 LD (special widescreen) and mono > vhs recording.

I might be wrong, but I think that Editdroid v1 does not have the actual 70 mm 6-track mix, but the authors used the 1985 LD audio remix, believing it to be the original 70 mm 6-track mix. No one has released the actual 70 mm mix until this audio recording was released.

IIRC, the 35 mm/70 mm mix was released first. However, many theatres in 1977 could only play mono sound, and could not play stereo sound. So they remixed the audio in the film in mono. They took more time for this, and also had the benifit of hindsight. Thus the changes in audio.

I believe you are correct in your statement. Unfortunately it did not turn out to be the real 70mm mix on the EditDroid discs.

I'd love to see a re-authored EditDroid Star Wars with the actual 70mm mix included, once we have a copy we can work with.

As Arnie.d noted above, Editdroid v1 used the 1985 remix believing it to be the original stereo mix.
(T)he(y) used the 1993 remix to represent the 70mm.

I too hope a complete restoration of the 70mm mix can be gleaned from morgands1's, BrianM's, and blitter's tapes.

Are these still the ones from way-back that were 96 kbps? I was always really dissapointed that the encoding was done so low. Would be great to hear these at 196 or higher.

Yep. These are the mp3 files I've had sat on my hard drive since I downloaded them from the site in the 1st post.

Part 1 is encoded at 64kbps, part 2 at 48kbps and part 3 at 96kbps.

Not the best quality ever but it's a good record of what was heard in theaters back in 1977.

Belbucus' recording of the 70mm mix - with the '93 mix in the other channel - was uploaded as an uncompressed WAV. (See this thread.) There was also a newer file synched to the GOUT video.

However, unlike morgands1's audio, the 70mm mix in Belbucus' file is only a mono recording.

Cool, I didn't know that existed. Amazing that we have not one but two recordings of the 70mm.

I'm curious - how does that follow?  Just because something wasn't released doesn't mean it isn't copyrighted.
