So branching off of this thread:

I DVR'ed the AMC airing and and I'm halfway through capping it.
Each piece will be about 9.3 gigs. If you do the math (there are 4 pieces), it will be approximately 37 gigs. Since 50gb discs are much more expensive, I'm going to put this on 2 different single layer discs. I have the John Cazale HBO documentary in HD so I'll use that as an "extra." I also have some other SD stuff that I'm going to throw on as a bonus feature.
if anyone has anything that they would like to contribute, please contact me and I'll be happy to add it. :)
Thus far:
The Godfather Saga (Parts 1-4) HD
The Godfather 3 (TV Introduction) HD
I Knew It Was You: Rediscovering John Cazale HD
As far as how I'm going to distribute...I have no idea. I guess torrent? It's going to be an insane amount of information.
digitalfreaknyc, that sounds absolutely fantastic! I remember you mentioned this and always wondered whether you would do something with the capture. That sounds like quite the set and quite the large torrent. I'll definitely vow to pitch in and seed once everything's done. A private tracker, like myspleen, sounds like it would be better.
So, each BD-25 will have two episodes and an extra? If so, that sounds like a great deal. The 2 extras you have planned so far sound good. Do you happen to have a commercial from AMC advertising the newly redone Godfather Saga? That could also make a nice extra.
I don't have the commercial, unfortunately.
I'm running into a snag, though. It looks like there were some choppy parts in part 3 so I'm going to have to plug the holes with the official Blu-ray. Luckily, from what I can see, it didn't affect any deleted scenes.
That will delay my getting it up.

Oh that's unfortunate. Will you need to degrade the resolution of the parts from the Blu-Ray to match the HDTV capture better? I assume that the HDTV capture is at other 720p or 1080i so the BD may be a slight jump-up in quality.

Other than compression, there should be no quality jump between 1080i and 1080p once 3:2 pulldown has been removed.
But then DFNYC will already know this :-)

Just an update:
I've capped all 4 parts off of my DVR.
Now I have to start re-building that segment of the first film. :( It definitely won't match the "look" of the Saga as they're clearly two different sources. However, it's better than missing that part of the film.
Again, if *anyone* knows of someone who still has this on their DVR, please let me know.
Hi is this the godfather sgaga , the same cut avaiable on VHS that is the two films cut into one epic 6 hour masterpiece. ?

How was the film quality / transfer quality on this? I was amazed that this would be shown in 16:9 HD...
downloading a torrent from a weird website, its 16 gb and it's frozen at 1.6, so i'd prefer to see this version in even better quality, especially with the rare godfather 3 opening.

I meant would it be possible to splice them into one uninterrupted film as opposed to ftwo discs ?
@digitalfreaknyc you have any luck downloading that torrent? I'm still stuck at 1.68GB

I'm not a member of that group so I can't download it.
All I would need is the 3rd piece. I'd upconvert that segment from 720p to 1080i and we'd be done. *sigh*
you can register, i was able to do it easily all it took was an email activation. i can give u my login info if u can't register.

digitalfreaknyc,
TV Vault, another private tracker, has The Godfather Saga available in 720p MKV (but the poster says he also has it in 1080p, ~41 GB). PM me your e-mail address, and I'll invite you.
TServo....sent.
THANKS!
Maybe the person who has it can just privately send me what I need to finish the whole damn thing. Judging by the file size, I'm assuming he did the same thing I did.
Let us know when you're done with this, I gotta find a way to convert mkv to DVD5
I'm not getting the 3rd part. No seeds at all. :( :(
Badboy...what are you referring to? I'm not doing anything with an mkv.
