Back in the day, when I was on AOL all the time, my username was NEED2SLEEP. It didn't help much.

Nite folks. The thread is now buried to page two.

I have a serious problem with insomnia. If I can string together 5-6 hours of contiguous sleep it's a miracle.

JS, have you been to a doc about that? I'm never one to recommend meds over psychological decompression since it doesn't address the root cause. However, some of the newer meds to help you train your body to get the sleep it needs without the need for long-term use. Ambien in particular helped get my wife back into her natural sleep cycle after only a couple of weeks.
Healthy sleep habits promote a more positive outlook and greater interpersonability (is that even a word?) so it's always good for you and everybody around you. If you're having sleep probs you probably have something (or a lot of somethings) on your mind. Finding a good outlet for dumping your stress is important for the long term (routine excercise like jogging or gym work, and/or what I call "routine exorcise," like writing poetry or prose or model building or *ahem* editing), and perhaps a M.D. can help you in the short term.

I slept for some 9 hours last night. It was great. I wish that could happen more often.

Howdy.
I've been on anti-depressants for a while. Actually, I've spoken to my doc recently and I'm going for a "sleep study" on March 5th. One of my problems is I believe I'm suffering from sleep apnea. I do need more exercise, as my weight is playing a role in it, I believe. Could stand to lose 25-30lbs.
I'm wary of "sleep aids" because I've had a problem with meds of that type in the past....although I have heard good things about ambien. All I know is I'm deeply tired in the afternoons lately. Not good.

"sleep study"
I have done that a couple times. The first time I went in I did not get enoughf sleep for them to figure anything out. My sleep habits are pretty good now days, my life as become so crazy that I almost pass out when I have time to sit down.
Back in the day I would lay in bed for hours before I would fall a sleep, then make up after an hour or 3 and that would be it for the night.

"I'm going for a "sleep study" on March 5th."The one time you are
expected to fall asleep during the test.

My wife and I finally replaced our California king mattress (the bed was a hand-me-down). We sleep much better now.

During weekdays, I usually get to sleep around midnight, sometimes later, and I'm up 7AM. Usually on mondays I am up on 5AM, because I either have to travel or something.

i started this thread mostly because awk was on here ALL THE DAMN TIME! it's great that it's evolved way past that into a topic about sleep problems. that being said...
i have a hard time getting to sleep. usually i'm asleep by 1am and wake up at 6am for work. weekends i fall by 3 or 4am and wake at 10am with a nap (hopefully!) throughout the day. i think the naps fuck me up.

Actually, for the past 3 nights I've gotten FANTASTIC sleep, which is rare for me. I go the rest of the week like this and I may opt out of the study...speaking of AWK, why did he get banned this time?

No, but he is e-mailing me telling me I have double standards because I made a joke in the FrobozzCo thread about cigars rolled on the thighs of a virgin.
If I was talking about 6 year old virgins, he might have a point.

But that's the only way to make a cigar! Well, unless Castro himself rolled it. That'd work too.
He hasn't e-mailed me, but I wouldn't really know if he had.
