Say, does this release also incorporate the alternate cocoon scene from the deluxe laserdisc version (it is also on the Alien laserdisc archive on the AQ set) where Ripley says she's getting Dallas out of there? I know the quality was kind of sketchy on it, but it's still a nice little addition.

It certainly does - in it's entirety (and in anamorphic, no less)

Redux utilizes cocoon footage from both the Director's Cut as well as the Laserdisc(DVD) extras on the earlier releases. They are two different takes of the scene. And yes the whole thing runs much longer. It is truely an edit for the die hard Alien fan that wants to see everything available in one place. The average viewer would feel it drags. It has a much different feel than the official version.

I love that that early tagline features so prominently on the cover. "A word of warning..." - awsome!

I only want to send out dual layer discs to those who absolutely cannot get friends etc. to burn a dual layer.

The early teaser trailer that uses the "Word of Warning" tagline is one of my favorites.

First wave of discs (10+) went out today - those were the DL's, I'll be sending the 2xDVD5 data discs in the next few days.

The NFO (and cover art) is all in the DVD_ROM folder - I'll forward you the NFO by email D_J just to make sure.

All 2xDVD5 data discs (x18 !) went out today - they are all tested and if you use ImgTool and then burn as an ISO they work absolutely fine. Otherwise you can always watch the files through your PC if you're not going down the burning route.

I think I need to give my burner a bit of a rest, so should any peeps be looking for the disc (the torrent should be up within the week, so hold tight for that if you can d/l) then please request a PiF.

Hope y'all enjoy the disc, let me know what you think when it arrives.

Got my discs today, which shocked the shit out of me, seeing as how they came across the lake...Britain to California, and postage was less than two pounds (about $3.50)? Damn. I hate to ask this already, but...what're the plans for the next disc? I saw a couple references to a CBS cut of Aliens. Is this the next project, and what exactly makes this particular cut so interesting?

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how this series of yours progresses...should go very nice with the Quadrilogy set I picked up a few weeks ago on eBay.

Indeed - the plan was to go for the CBS Edit of Aliens next - it's akin to the Harry Potter ABC edits on myspleen at the moment, whereby it's reinstated footage, nearly all familiar - but some interesting creative choices (way before the Cameron sanctioned extended edition came out) and doubly fun since thanks to the source, I'll be able to branch the versions for "with adverts" and "without", so a trek down memory lane too, pretty sure it's a 1987/88 release. However the quality isn't great, but that's no fault of the source - it's just the age of the material.

However I'm getting stacked with some great material for future discs, the great thing with the above is that it wouldn't take as long to do as the Appendix #2

Smurf - it sure will be on the spleen, though I'm sure there are enough peeps out there who could sort you out with a PiF, especially the 2xDVD5's posse, who could well have dual layers now so don't need the singles

after watching the appendix 2, here´s my impression of it:

in most cases, extended versions are way better than original cuts because they add scenes which enhance the experience, answer some questions, explain few things and usually fit the film so well that one has to ask, why they were cut out (i felt like this when watching aliens extended cut for example).
in case of of alien, except of the cocoon scene and some alien shots before parker´s death, there aren´t any memorable scenes missing. distant images of the planet or nostromo are expandable, imho.
the tempo of the virtual workprint is ssssslllloooooowwwwww indeed, so i fully understood why scenes were cut out, also if you see more of the alien, you don´t get so frightened...
i knew the score of mr.goldsmith´s very well since i listened to it many times before. themes added to this cut are sometimes well out of sync with the picture, but i see the purpose and still it is very interesting to listen to the music and watch original-audio-less scenes...

finally i want to thank meedermow 1st for the work he has done with this release, 2nd for sharing it with us all and 3rd for future releases that are under development already, i´m sure

I got it 2day, love the easer egg!!!!! Have to find some time to sit down and watch this piece of ART.......

I could sit through the actual workprint which ran 3 hours. They even mention a 4 hour version on the quad set.

Alien is my favorite film (Can you tell?)
