Great job to be sure! Congrats. I do have a quick question though, how do I get my icon to fit in the whole "window" for the av? I can't seem to make it bigger.

The ideal avatar size is 80 x 80. I'm working on a way to have the avatar centered in its position rather than flush top/left so smaller avatars look better.

I could force the image size and let the browser stretch it out, but it would be ugly.

From a moderating and usability standpoint, the new version is way better even in beta.

My problem seems to be not 80 by 80 but in a file size limit. No matter what I do I can't get the file size down to 5k or below, any chance of increacing the file size?

It really shouldn't be that difficult. My avatar is just over 4K. What are you using to edit your image?

12 Kb FOR THE AVATAR WOULD BE PERFECT.

THE OLD FORUM MAY HAVE BEEN "UGLY," BUT I LIKED IT.

12K @ 25 posts per page (typical) would be 300K for avatars alone. While users with slow connections can disable avatars, I'd prefer to keep the forum accessible to as many people as possible.

Trust me I've tried I can't get to 5k, I think about 6 or 7k is as low as I can get it, what about maybe somewhere between 7 and 12k?

It must be the settings you're using. Zion and I both have full-color photos as avatars and they're under 5K. Are you using the "Save for Web" option?

I agree with the 12k limit. I have only paint, so I probably could not resize it myself.

I have a lot of fond memories of the old layout, and I am just now starting to get use to this new layout; but now that we have the old forums colors back and the place doesn't feel so unfamiliar anymore, I am really starting to appreciate it.

I already like the "blue" look better. It's easier to see which threads have new posts. And having the avatars is a HUGE advantage. I usually gripe about forum changes, but this is clearly a major improvement. And getting my avatar to within 5k was a piece of cake... I see no reason to up the limit.
